What Turkey (and other actively assertive modern standing militaries) are doing is benefitting from the fact that the larger powers will sit back and allow things to play out as it's an opportunity to gather a ton of information on new approaches to warfighting. You don't have to go much further than reddit to see how drastically different this conflict is from others. It's not the typical proxy war stuff from the past.
I'm not sure what happens with Turkey in 5-10 years man. They're walking a tightrope that shouldn't be possible.
