PBS news hour just confirmed live on air that Cindy McCain will not endorse Biden in her taped remarks tonight. She's simply going to highlight the friendship between Biden and her late husband. She does not want to be involved in politics.
Isn't that sweet, that a multi-millionaire Republican beer heiress gets to speak at the Democratic National Convention? What a swell thing to do.

Having an election between people who voted Trump and still want him around and people who voted Trump and are kinda embarrassed but not really doesn't sound like much choice at all.

By Xpike Go To PostDems' strategy seems to be "let's get Republicans to vote for us*They are doing a great job of damping enthusiasm for a pivotal election. But then, they have been like that for years now.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/16/politics/cnn-poll-biden-trump-august/index.html
And on the eve of the party conventions, a majority of voters (53%) are "extremely enthusiastic" about voting in this year's election, a new high in CNN polling in presidential election cycles back to 2003.
Among the 72% of voters who say they are either extremely or very enthusiastic about voting this fall, Biden's advantage over Trump widens to 53% to 46%. It is narrower, however, among those voters who live in the states that will have the most impact on the electoral college this fall.
It’s only one poll and all but anti trump sentiment is pretty strong.
SSRS is a B/C rated pollster at 538 and CNN opinion polling is a B. In any case, the poll wasn’t that particularly good for Dems overall. You know Fox is a good pollster too yeah?
I mean it’s pretty clear Dems figure enthusiasm to vote trump out will carry them with their base. 2018 was crazy turnouts and polling also suggested as such. Their strategy is to make people that liked Obama and Clinton comfortable. /shrug
If you're enthusiastic about this election then what do you even care about

Wow this is a very flawed take that has no truth or nuance to it at all whatsoever. Lol if anyone thinks this is very much the case and incredibly accurate

That Venn diagram is slightly outdated. Republicans idolize Russia now and aren’t a handful of Congresspeople on record of having ties to Russia?

Basically
Congressmen having international ties and interests overseas is largely "whatever" across the board too.

what kind of person votes hillary in 2016 and then 4 years later is like "Trump sounds pretty good ngl".
Florida is hilarious. The Gulf can't meet the Atlantic fast enough. Hopefully in the middle of the night.

For those of you who aren't following Canadian politics due to all the other fuckery happening right now in the world, we are in the midst of some shit that y'all might find interesting.
Trudeau is proroguing parliament until October in hopes of "resetting" the current minority government's agenda. Rumours are pointing to some massive investments and social reform coming up but no one is actually sure what will be in the government's next throne speech (basically outlining the agenda for the next year or so).
However, there's more to it. Trudeau and his government are in the midst of the WE Charity scandal. The gist of the scandal is that WE Charity, who won the government contract to administer a summer grant program for students during COVID-19, paid thousands in speaking fees to Trudeau's mother and brother. They're also accused of paying exorbitant travel and other expenses for Trudeau's wife during her "unpaid volunteering" time with the charity. The charity is run by two brothers, Mark and Craig Kielburger who are pretty big in terms of global charities. They had a hearing with parliament and a committee investigating the affairs and the brothers came off like a bunch of twats. Wouldn't be surprised if this brings more scrutiny to them and more scandals or dodgy dealings are uncovered.
Now, the main opposition, the Conservatives, are in the midst of a leadership election and can barely find ways to stay in the news. Trudeau's daily COVID-19 briefings that ended a few weeks ago gave him many minutes of free air time while the opposition has been mostly irrelevant and trying to (prematurely) bring back in-person parliamentary sessions. They are accusing Trudeau's government of hypocrisy for being against Harper's proroguing of parliament a decade or so ago, and of attempting to shut down scrutiny of the WE scandal. All pretty legitimate critiques. The opposition needs to do something to counteract Trudeau because his polling continues to go up and is easily in majority government territory. However, no one is going to want to force an early election for many reasons - Trudeau especially - the public would punish the party electorally if they're seen as forcing an election during COVID-19 to grab more power. The other parties can't afford an election in general, particularly the NDP, the main left-wing party in parliament.
The social reform stuff is being seen as an attempt to placate other parties in parliament like the NDP and Bloc Quebecois, who are left-wing on economics, to help keep Trudeau in power. It remains to be seen what they'll actually attempt to do in the next throne speech. Just the other day, Trudeau's beleaguered finance minister Bill Morneau resigned (who was also involved in the WE scandal...) and was mostly a corporate suit out of his depth. His replacement is Chrystia Freeland, who was the minister of Foreign Affairs, the deputy prime minister, and was in charge of Canada's negotiation team for the revised NAFTA agreement, and is widely seen as a possibility to succeed Trudeau as PM. She's also much more on the left compared to Morneau and has an activist streak to her.
