Ms. James’s lawsuit is the culmination of an inquiry that began in February 2019 and played out amid revelations in the news media regarding the organization’s spending and governance practices.Shocking that a "non-profit" like the NRA would ever allow this to happen
The lawsuit alleges Mr. LaPierre spent hundreds of thousands of the organization’s dollars on private plane trips, visiting the Bahamas “by private air charter at least eight times” in three years, according to a summary of the suit. He and his family were often allegedly “gifted the use of a 107-foot yacht” by an N.R.A. vendor and he spent more than $3.6 million on travel consultants, including luxury black cars, over two years. He also is said to have secured a post-employment contract without board approval worth more than $17 million.
Among the numerous alleged violations laid out by Ms. James’s office, some related to false reporting of annual filings both to the state and the I.R.S. Her office also cited “improper expense documentation, improper wage reporting, improper income tax withholding” and failing to make required excise tax reporting and payment, among other issues.
Kind of a dumb comparison. I don't think there's *any* "cultural community" more diverse than Latino. You're talking about a population that spans (in origin) from the southwest US to the antarctic circle. Everyone is gonna seem homogeneous in comparison.
It's irrelevant whether it's true or not. There's just no need to say it. Why can't he just say "the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community"?
By domino Go To PostThat’s a bad quote and folks are going to run with it.He ain't wrong. Shea butter twitter would have people believe that every african american knows their Ghanaian, Eritrean, or Kenyan heritage but that's far, far from the case and notable exception is kinda the best quick way to state it. People playing to fantasies there.
But I don’t think he’s wrong
Very, very different... Wish he'd just not even get into it. Call a Puerto Rican a Cuban or a Mexican an El Salvadoran - get a history lesson on the spot. Energy is incredibly different because African Americans are generally their own thing after generations here and being detached from those connections in more ways than one.
I'd still dodge all that stuff though.
Back in 2008, despite being a very hardline market socialist, I was a big Biden fan because of things like this, where he was willing to say exactly what he thinks without filtering it much. He seemed so damn honest. I often disagreed with him, but I'm not voting for a dictator, I'm voting for a president. Character is so much more important than platform, presidents don't legislate. But with good character, they can make rational decisions, surround themselves with good people, and not lie to you (or lie to you less).
Basically it'll be a soundbyte people take out of context for a gotcha, but a bunch of folks will go "well I mean, he ain't wrong," and it'll fizzle out. Basically a much much less troublesome version of his "if you don't vote for me, you ain't black" crown jewel.
Only reason people are even talking about it is because people are looking for that sort of stuff.

Latinos comprise a group of nations, each with their own shared experiences within their own nationalities, and issues w/ other nationalities within the Latino community
African-Americans are ADOS (god I hate that term lol)
I'd find fault with it if he said Black people because then that'd be bringing in the diaspora.
But yeah he's better off altogether avoiding it. Folks are looking for clips like this to over-parse to hell and back.
By DY_nasty Go To PostCall a Puerto Rican a Cuban or a Mexican an El Salvadoran - get a history lesson on the spot.Facts.
I think hispanic people are more insulted being mistaken for another nationality than they are racial slurs.
But I’m not sure this is something a presidential candidate should be saying right now considering how reactionary a lot of people are
That’s a conversation that requires nuance and Biden is not seemingly capable of much nuance. With regards to political influence, the comment is valid. Cubans and hardcore Catholics will result in more conservative Latino votes.
I can’t comment on actual cultural differences. Just spit balling, I would imagine black culture, like white culture, is regional but more unified simply because black people have been here for lots of generations and are more Americanized. Latinos have had more recent generations of immigrants so there’s more variations of first or second gen Latinos from different countries.
Just get back to pushing hot rods again, dude
Yasial Puig!!!!

A New Jersey police department is pursuing cyber harassment charges against five people in connection with a protest photo uploaded to Twitter in June. Complaints were served against the original tweeter and four other people who retweeted the message, alleging that they caused the officer to fear for the safety of his family.
The Nutley Police Department filed its complaints in late July over a tweet posted during a June 26th protest. The now-deleted message included a photo of a masked on-duty police officer with a request that “If anyone knows who this bitch is throw his info under this tweet.” Because of the mask, the officer is not readily identifiable from the photograph, and there do not appear to be any replies revealing his identity.https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/6/21355999/twitter-cyber-harassment-felony-charges-police-protests-retweet
The original poster and the retweeters are charged with cyber harassment, a fourth-degree felony punishable by up to 18 months in jail. Activist Georgana Sziszak, one of the retweeters, revealed the complaint in a GoFundMe campaign last week. The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey confirmed its existence to The Verge, as did Sziszak’s attorney Alan Peyrouton. The Verge has also reviewed a copy of Sziszak’s summons.
Cops are soft af
The department charged Sziszak and others on behalf of Detective Peter Sandomenico, who the complaint identifies as the officer in the tweet.Amazing irony
Sad. George W Bush did it better. Running-on-Empty Donald can't even get himself to make a video claiming Biden has illegitimate black children.

By Fenderputty Go To PostUsing non profit as a slush fund for you and your pals is bad /shrugand cuomo was just at a conference begging that same crowd to come back to NYC so their taxes (or what little they do decide to pay) could keep the city afloat. i'm thinking maybe the AG could focus on a crime wave, nypd being shit, and how those gov/medical workers can best be taken care of but sure - lets push the NRA to the top of the pile.
not impressed considering nothing of significance will come from it and that attention would see immediate traction if put somewhere else

Assuming the AG can focus on more than one thing, but yeah it’s gonna draw negative attention during election season

Wait why is legal ownership of firearms going away a good thing?
Regardless, it ain't gonna happen. You need a 2/3 amendment or GTFO, and that's not going to happen in my lifetime. Recent happenings has pushed public opinion even further away from that now.

A world with no guns and no police would be great. Not gonna happen, maybe ever. But if there was a way to make it work it'd be great.

We make all this shit up as we go along anyway. There are a lot of experiments left to tackle in human civilization. We only just got to representative democracy 300 years ago (and even that, in practice, is still just taking the form of the same old resource holder/aristocracy - laborer/peasant system). There may be better ways for everything
