so seriously
"I think Karen has been under counted since Day One," said Steve Westly, the former California state controller and major Biden fundraiser, who said he is glad to see both Bass and Harris on Biden's shortlist.
"Everybody likes Karen Bass. People are scratching their heads saying, who is this woman?" he said. "When you've been speaker of the legislature for a state that's twice the population of New York and the world's fifth biggest economy, you know how to manage media, you understand the economy. I think she is stronger than people think."

By Not Go To PostThis may be the dumbest VP selection cycle of all timeNobody remembers the losing VP anyways.
This Hong Kong shit all sucks. I hope people can get out while they can, make it to Australia, UK/Europe, Taiwan and so forth. Looks like they're going to suspend extraditions and hopefully make citizenship easier for expats the more Beijing erodes the democratic process.
They're going to go for Taiwan next; I hope its ties to the US and rising recent economic and political clout help keep its status in limbo.
Fuck China.

It's gonna be nothing like the HK situation.

Could you elaborate, my good man?
By Facism Go To PostCould you elaborate, my good man?The Brits were never going to war for HK for starters. Taiwan is a line in the sand in more ways than one. Its not just about their sovereignty, but the whole South China Sea...
But I'm really just saying that people need to start asking themselves what all they'd be willing to accept to keep Taiwan from being occupied and dissolved.
Japan gearing up heavy right now too so if any funk jumps off Asia potentially could get messy. Especially with the history between the neighbors
Dear god

Don’t think many will accept much tbh
Doubt anything is gonna happen to Taiwan anytime soon RE: militarily because the situation there is not at all like HK. Literally everyone benefits from the current situation of ambiguity. At most you’ll just see more of what’s already happening like the PRC picking off Taiwan’s diplomatic rivals or continuing the island’s brain drain.
NEW YORK/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - China’s ByteDance has agreed to divest the U.S. operations of TikTok completely in a bid to save a deal with the White House, after President Donald Trump said on Friday he had decided to ban the popular short-video app, two people familiar with the matter said on Saturday.
Under ByteDance’s new proposal, Microsoft, which also owns professional social media network LinkedIn, will be in charge of protecting all of TikTok’s U.S. user data, the sources said. The plan allows for a U.S. company other than Microsoft to take over TikTok in the United States, the sources added..

"Although it came in several variations, one of Trump's favorite comparisons was to point to the tip of one of his Sharpie [marker's] and say, 'this is Taiwan,' then point to [his desk in the Oval Office] and say, 'this is China.' So much for American commitments and obligations to another democratic ally," Bolton writes.
The Lincoln Project are doing a great job of going viral on reddit. Saw multiple posts on the front two pages. #SensibleNeocon2024
It amazes me how little thought is being given to that group, from the dems. This whole, "enemy of my enemy is my friend" mantra feels like smart dumb shit, from a party running high off of circumstance. As soon as Trump is out, you'll have a group of the same people that enabled him, running right back against anything looking like progress, and they've already demonstrated that they're better at this than anybody not named AOC.

Liberals turn ourselves with the quickness but when the neocons go back to being necons you’re all worried we’re gonna keep rubbing bows ....
I’m not even sure the Lincoln project will provide cover to enablers. They’re attacking senators who’ve enabled trump as well.
I get the PSA’s and reminders, I just don’t get the actual concerns. Is the argument that a rebuilt and not as trumpian GOP of old is bad?

I think the GOP of old is slightly better, albeit only slightly. That’s being said, I feel like it’s gonna take a couple election cycles for any return of old ...

So where do you see the party headed post Trump? I’m assuming you feel the trumplicans are better than the neocons due to FP and not domestic issues?
Slightly better? The old GOP is the current one. Republicans just got blind-sighted by a random gamble that proved to be to effective. They are the last group of old people that needed to figure out how to weaponize social media, to this extent. Lincoln Project was around, but they didn't ramp up in effectiveness, until Bloomberg showed them the game-plan. In terms of political science and the psychology of it all, I find it interesting as hell. I mean, you have diehards jumping parties, because people in their own camp convinced them to table their life long attacks on abortion, for 4 years.
To answer your question, they are no different...period. One version just said the quiet part louder than the other.
In terms of direction, it will be Trump 2.0. Why else wouldn't it be? Americans have literally proven that they only care about "straight talk". The next major candidate will know how not to piss off minorities so overtly and everything will be back to status quo.

By Fenderputty Go To PostSo where do you see the party headed post Trump? I’m assuming you feel the trumplicans are better than the neocons due to FP and not domestic issues?Problem is that the damage from Bush era has been done and its gonna be more significant than anything Trump could possibly do. Ironically, Trump's been a bigger barrier there by simply not shutting up. Or plainly being inflexible on how he could turn an existing situation like Obamacare into a potential asset in the way that someone like Kasich sees it for example. If Pence was running things, it would be much, much worse classic GOP. They're hardly gone away, they're just modernizing.
A lot of what Trump has done either would've happened regardless under a different tone with the DNC's priorities going into 2016 as well... Some things like anti-abortion and women's rights would've been less of a public issue, but the focus on corporate protections would've simply taken that spotlight. NYC still gets ravaged by Covid. These riots still occur. I've been giving people shit for years, but immigration is the biggest hypocrisy I've seen out of the democrats in my lifetime. At the same time, this focus on a physical wall has been the biggest smoke and mirrors effort to match as the barriers to entry and enforcements applied are the most thorough ever now as well - and both would've occurred as scheduled.
And even this housing crisis pales in comparison to the one that happened under Bush. Its horrible that the middle class is going to be shrunk and that larger entities will sweep through renters markets like never before, but its a far cry from the loss of homes altogether.
I keep saying that once Trump leaves, the democrats won't have much to talk about because they've moved their own perceived base too close what the republicans are and they can't compete with the real thing. There's no counter for a socially acceptable or even neutral republican anymore.
If you start talking FP at all then its not even close. China is a thing because of Bush.

I disagree the current is the same as the old, and maybe the old is worse in that they were more effectual as a less blunt legislative device. In the end the authoritarian shit and enablement is kind of the kicker for me. Curious if he actually tries USPS Fuckery before the election.
TBF, I get why people think Bush is worse due to the war, something Trump has been pretty dovish on. But I think that has less to do with Trumps actual dovishness, and more to do with war not being an electoral positive right now. That’s being said, DY bright uo China with Bush. But give trump 4 more years ...
I’m not sure how the GOP stays course without moderating some.
Was it Ray-gun or Nixon's party that were basically saying that it was on sight for protesters and the media? I don't remember. Hell, even Obama got away with that one.
For a more modern example, there are literally old Republicans holding up pandemic aid, because to many poor people and minorities got basics. They didn't come into power with Trump.

Anytime you gotta say "give Trump 4 more years" you gotta realize that Bush did worse right out the gate. The tax cuts in 2001 and 2003 basically laid the ground work and motivation for all of the income inequality energy you've seen during the past two administrations. NCLB, slapping unions, etc
You don't even have to get to Katrina or anything directly related to 9/11 either. Dude was trying to privatize social security lol. Bush stepped on the church/state separation day one too

I see it like this: legislation is apparently flimsy. You can talk someone into believing that a good thing is bad for them. Judges though? I'm sure there are a lot of people that are more than happy to concede a bill or two if the courts are all stacked. I mean, we're all praying that RBG doesn't die before Biden's potential victory. In that respect, for a large part of the party, they lost in the best possible way.
I can count on one hand the amount of halfway reasonable policy ideas that came out of the GOP in the entirety of its modern existence. They didn't have to worry too much about power or leading from the 40s through to the 70s, but everything since then has been a hot ass mess.
The "old" GOP is definitely not better, unless you mean they were generally less powerful nationwide.
