A lot of people seem to forget that America's armed forces provide security for most of the world. It's not all just warfare.
There's entire economic systems built around bases, even the foreign ones, that's why you'll get people on the ground grumbling about it but the country not actually telling the US to fuck off entirely.
By Lunatic Go To PostA lot of people seem to forget that America's armed forces provide security for most of the world. It's not all just warfare.I don't think anyone forgets that. On the contrary, people forget or just straight up don't know that America "provides security" solely to further its own interests globally. They don't do it out of the goodness of their hearts lol it's a reciprocal relationship.

Countries are more than willing to give up pieces of their sovereignty in exchange for American military might and like you said, won't actually do shit about it besides grumble to their constituents to stir up votes.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has introduced the latest of several bills designed to weaken a key online legal shield. The Behavioral Advertising Decisions Are Downgrading Services (or BAD ADS) Act would remove protections under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act for large web services that display ads based on āpersonal traits of the userā or a userās previous online behavior. This is defined as ābehavioral advertisingā and does not include targeting based on usersā locations or the content of the site theyāre on.
Section 230 shields websites from legal liability for user-created content.
In a statement, Hawley said that āmanipulative ads are not what Congress had in mind when passing Section 230,ā although he did not elaborate on a relationship between the two topics.š
This stupid country. Great PR and marketing makes people think Canada isnāt balls deep in the exploitation, capitalism, and anti-poor game like the rest of the western world
Toronto is like only second place to Vancouver in terms of not putting up housing and letting all kinds of foreign investors secure empty overpriced condos yes?
WASHINGTON ā An Army National Guard officer who was called in to enforce the crackdown on protests in Lafayette Square last month will tell lawmakers that the demonstrators were peaceful and āsubjected to an unprovoked escalation and excessive use of force,ā according to written testimony made public on Monday.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/27/us/politics/national-guard-excessive-force-lafayette-square.html
Maj. Adam DeMarco, an Iraq war veteran who currently serves in the D.C. National Guard, will testify on Tuesday before a House panel investigating the clash, giving the latest account of how Park Police and Secret Service officers violently cleared protesters away from the White House. He intends to testify that the harsh actions were taken without provocation or adequate warning just before President Trump walked through the area with senior administration officials to stage a photo event in front of a historic church.
āFrom my observation, those demonstrators ā our fellow American citizens ā were engaged in the peaceful expression of their First Amendment rights,ā Major DeMarco will say, according to the advance text of his remarks. āYet they were subjected to an unprovoked escalation and excessive use of force.ā
By i can get you a toe Go To PostToronto is like only second place to Vancouver in terms of not putting up housing and letting all kinds of foreign investors secure empty overpriced condos yes?I actually think we are much worse than Vancouver. If you take a look at a map you'll see Vancouver is very dense and located on a small piece of land, and has only 1/5th of Toronto's population. So building options are constrained by geography and other factors and it's already the densest city in Canada. They have their own set of problems and Vancouverism can only do so much.
Meanwhile Toronto has obscene amounts of land to build and expand. The issue is also a lot more complicated than foreign investors coming in to buy up stuff, that's just a direct effect of our unaffordable and limited housing. It is a problem, yeah, but it's a problem that was created out of a bigger problem - our general lack of new housing and development and grotesque zoning laws that stop various different housing from being built. If real estate here wasn't such a lucrative asset, foreign and domestic companies wouldn't care to invest here. But it is, so they do lol.

False binary to keep the rich elite in power. Shit's unshakeable. GOP isn't the last bastion of the ruling class, Dems are. Look how they hopped to it when Sanders came out swinging in the primaries

Make up your mind. Because Biden basically said āI donāt support M4A and am a centristā then he hid for 4 months and didnāt say anything to get the nom. Now yāall acting like itās crazy he isnāt adopting Bernieās shit bill Biden intentionally didnāt endorse to get the nom lol

Accept it does. People wonāt settle for anything but M4A thinking itās the same as UHC. I argue with liberal constantly about this and itās Bernieās fault. If Biden tries to get UHC through a public option and o-care expansions he gets painted a republican.
Stop being intentionally obtuse ...

what program/bill do you know has to be maintained word for word from the introductory discussions up to enactment?
it wasn't adequate so end all further requests/demands/etc *grabs ball and goes to ohio*

Dude stop. Youāve got to be trolling me. Iām not arguing how a bill comes to fruition.
Weāre discussing the politics of making M4A part of platform. Politically, itās matters a whole lot. M4A bill kinda sucks, but the name was really catchy!

How did this become a yes or no question š there's a lot of room between Bernie's Dreamland and where the Dems are since it was topic
Dude won the nom ignoring a kinda shitty bill with a catchy name. Now the left thinks theyāll be cute and try and pin the DNC / Biden to a platform he didnāt win the nomination on.
My first Reaction was actually just laughter, cause thatās some galaxy brain politics right there. Iām not sure if the left is delusional or if Bernieās hubris is rubbing off. Either way itās not smart politics to
A. Change what got him the nom.
B. Try and appease the left by giving them only part of what they want. Because they only want M4A
Ideally we talk about healthcare like adults but thatās not possible right now

The GOP plan also includes billions of dollars in funds that are completely unrelated to fighting the coronavirus pandemic, such as $686 million for F-35 fighter jets and $1.75 billion for construction of a new FBI headquarters. McConnell apparently had no idea funding for the FBI building was included in the final legislation, which was crafted in his office.
"Um, I'm not sure that it is. Is it?" McConnell said during a press conference when asked why the FBI funds are in the bill.
Titled the Health, Economic Assistance, Liability, and Schools (HEALS) Act, the $1 trillion opening bid from Republicans was released in bits and pieces Monday as coronavirus cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to surge across the U.S. and the economy remains in deep recession, with the official unemployment rate hovering above 11%.https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/07/28/utter-disgrace-gop-proposes-legal-immunity-corporations-0-funding-states-and-deep
The Republican plan would temporarily reduce the weekly unemployment insurance boost from $600 to $200 until states can implement a complicatedāsome say unworkableānew system that would pay laid-off workers 70% of what they earned prior to losing their jobs. Additionally, the GOP proposal would provide another round of $1,200 direct stimulus payments to most Americans, funding for U.S. schools that meet "minimum opening requirements," and $16 billion for coronavirus testing.
Okay, for starters Biden got the nom because he was Obama's VP and Bernie only built momentum because Warren started waffling once pressed lol. If Liz held firm and didn't screw herself like we all knew she would, we're all looking at an ezpz moderate VP again
Second - take the Bernie out of it. The only reason that stuff is popular is because it answers a lot of questions and concerns for people. I mean ffs....
appeasing the left
their voters? š
you don't need to carry that bill word for word over but at least have the guy pretend to give a fuck about a big issue. How is that too much to ask but then we've got to entertain how much of an issue abortion is before the DNC? You're making this a harder discussion be than it needs to be with that perspective

Perfect climate to throw out UHC type shit and tell people their vaccines will be fucking free and their month long stays in the hospital won't bankrupt them in the future. But lol dems. Too beholden to Health insurers. How will any of it work. God forbid they actually do their fuckin job of figuring shit the fuck out.

Adult shit.
Like being bankrupted for extended hospital stays/major surgery or consistently told you have to go with x doctor or y drug or z procedure because that's what your shit covers isn't just the most fuckfilled experience.
Adult shit: watching a ton of your check go to health insurance just for the privileged of being denied something.

By rerixo Go To Postembracing the m4a name would probably lose biden more votes than it would gain himI agree there. Just think that with millions of people losing coverage, its a greater opportunity to do what voters actually ask for - or even lie about it - than some of the other stuff the dems have tried to create energy with lately.
There's no reason not to have UHC on your platform but there's plenty of reasons not to use the M4A name to accomplish something like it.
If all Bernie and his supporters about is using the M4A name and it has to be that or nothing else then fuck them. If they scoff at UHC because it's not called M4A then they suck, too.

Healthcare being tied to employment means a bunch of people are FUCKED. I don't think a lot of comfy americans really understand just how screwed a bunch of people are right now and in the next couple of months. You got no check coming, rent's due, the extensions for freezes are coming to a close and if you were getting healthcare through your employer and got laid off and your state doesn't give a fuck about medicaid you're screwed. There's also people who work and can't even GET medicaid because their fucky ass state turned down the expansion. So imagine being so poor you can't really afford healthcare but your state doesn't think you're poor enough TO GET FUCKING HEALTHCARE.
Democrats could easily talk about WORKING towards some kind of goal for the foreseeable future. Fuck ass Biden ain't even on that tip. It's just pure "fuck off about m4a." K. Cool. Thanks for supposedly being the alternative to the GOP.

because otherwise i have no idea why the idea of rebranding and restructuring something you know a significant amount of your voters want to see would be so vehemently opposed
By DY_nasty Go To Postis there some bernie club out in cali that's just throwing eggs at old people or something?I don't really have anything to back this up on so this feels more anecdotal than anything, but it seems to me that the problem is that Bernie supporters want his policy and the exact same structures and branding around it or nothing at all. Just look at prior discussions around Green New Deal. We could pass something that was 95% of that with a different name and it would still be treated like an affront because it wasn't called just that.

If I were to see a drive towards UHC on the DNC platform and I supported M4A, I shouldn't feel mad or disappointed. But I reckon some people that support M4A and nothing but M4A would be š¤·āāļø
at this point im sure a 1 member of a third party would do more to try and stop the GOP than the entire dems combined

I get the short term memory stuff put on by how media works with this stuff, but the idea's not exactly directly tied to Bernie. He's just the most recent person to stand on it. Again, Warren was out front on things when this cycle started anyways.

So take Bernie out of it - and its not like the problem goes away.
I just don't see the all or nothing as anything more than an indicator that the DNC itself won't endorse a platform beyond where Obamacare started.
