The Behavioral Advertising Decisions Are Downgrading Services (or BAD ADS) Act would remove protections under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act for large web services that display ads based on “personal traits of the user” or a user’s previous online behavior. This is defined as “behavioral advertising” and does not include targeting based on users’ locations or the content of the site they’re on.

Section 230 shields websites from legal liability for user-created content.

In a statement, Hawley said that “manipulative ads are not what Congress had in mind when passing Section 230,” although he did not elaborate on a relationship between the two topics.

I actually think we are much worse than Vancouver. If you take a look at a map you'll see Vancouver is very dense and located on a small piece of land, and has only 1/5th of Toronto's population. So building options are constrained by geography and other factors and it's already the densest city in Canada. They have their own set of problems and Vancouverism can only do so much.

Meanwhile Toronto has obscene amounts of land to build and expand. The issue is also a lot more complicated than foreign investors coming in to buy up stuff, that's just a direct effect of our unaffordable and limited housing. It is a problem, yeah, but it's a problem that was created out of a bigger problem - our general lack of new housing and development and grotesque zoning laws that stop various different housing from being built. If real estate here wasn't such a lucrative asset, foreign and domestic companies wouldn't care to invest here. But it is, so they do lol.

I don't really have anything to back this up on so this feels more anecdotal than anything, but it seems to me that the problem is that Bernie supporters want his policy and the exact same structures and branding around it or nothing at all. Just look at prior discussions around Green New Deal. We could pass something that was 95% of that with a different name and it would still be treated like an affront because it wasn't called just that.

If I were to see a drive towards UHC on the DNC platform and I supported M4A, I shouldn't feel mad or disappointed. But I reckon some people that support M4A and nothing but M4A would be 🤷‍♂️

It feels anecdotal... but still I'm kinda wondering why so much of that is attached directly to Bernie. I get the short term memory stuff put on by how media works with this stuff, but the idea's not exactly directly tied to Bernie. He's just the most recent person to stand on it. Again, Warren was out front on things when this cycle started anyways.

So take Bernie out of it - and its not like the problem goes away.

I just don't see the all or nothing as anything more than an indicator that the DNC itself won't endorse a platform beyond where Obamacare started.
