First season is genuinely great, second is good but sometimes crazy, third is great too. The movie is also great.

S3 is utterly brilliant from start to finish, just really top tier TV.

hmm, i thought s1 was great. saw it many years ago, but i have good memories of it.
for some reason i stopped watching during s2. i think that's where the show jumps the shark, right?
wanted to check it out on netflix, but it's not available in the netherlands. too lazy to download it.
A lot of people say that revealing the killer in S2 was when the show went downhill, but that's a bit of a simplification. I understand that the viewership plummeted after the reveal, but the quality was most affected by all the goofy, stupid sideplots that were all throughout S2 - stuff like super nadine, josie getting turned into a knob, billy zane, ben horne thinking he's a civil war general, dick tremayne - and there's probably more i can't even remember.

Super Nadine, Dick Tremayne fitted into the world. Josie, Billy Zane not that much.
Windom Earle was something that was so over the top and destroyed alot of the atmosphere, since the killer was revealed and you didn't have a proper serious element.
