I mean…
By domino Go To PostAnybody can write. Being successful. Goooood luckAnybody can start writing... finishing work is the hard part.
Writing is much harder to get feedback and what not. Like if you make music or draw you can quickly show your work to a friend and get instant feedback on your progress. Try asking a friend to read 25000 unedited words and watch them duck you like they owe you money.
By blackace Go To PostAnybody can start writing… finishing work is the hard part.Makes 0 sense btw

By /sy Go To PostGetting Gud at writing is probably 1000000x easier than getting good art or music
You would expect there to be a bunch more writers than people who draw or write music and I don't think that's the case.
By Fenderputty Go To PostYou would expect there to be a bunch more writers than people who draw or write music and I don't think that's the case. Why don’t you think that’s the case?
There's tons of writers lol. Do you mean as a well paying career? Even some really good writers would rather just be in academia and pull a guaranteed check. There's also a lot of writers who end up writing shit on bottles or what have you, no name to it but a lot of art is just having a job that you can do that funds your real passion.
By /sy Go To PostMakes 0 sense btwreally? You never asked a friend to look at your art? post it on twitter or anything? Can't really do that with writing.
By /sy Go To PostGetting Gud at writing is probably 1000000x easier than getting good art or musicDon't know how you figure that but I am not trying to turn into which work is harder to master because all of them take time and effort to get better at them.
There comes a point where friend input sucks and you'd rather just have peers who do it too look at it.
By /sy Go To PostWhy don’t you think that’s the case?
Cause there's a fuck ton of musicians and a fuck ton of animated shows?

You know how many musicians I know that never made it big? My brother played in like 4 different bands. I know a fuck ton of people that play guitar as a hobby. I know people who draw for shits and giggle. I know almost nobody trying to write .
By i can get you a toe Go To PostThere comes a point where friend input sucks and you'd rather just have peers who do it too look at it.sure. but you gotta get to that point. Anything creative has a lot to do with confidence. To keep you pushing and keep you moving forward.
good writers are far and few, and writting is a more exhausting work than art or music
but on the other hand, you could just write plumber erotica for amazon kindle unlimited

By blackace Go To Postreally? You never asked a friend to look at your art? post it on twitter or anything? Can't really do that with writing.A friends Feedback on art is meaningless unless they’re also an artist or well informed on art fundamentals.

And it's not all novels and screenplays jeez.

I realize it’s anecdotal, but I’m contesting g the point “witting is 10,000x easier” by saying “shouldn’t I notice that”
By /sy Go To PostHow do you figure?Because it is in a way less abstract of a way to communicate yourself, a good song may take you to a place in a second, but good writting needs to hold you in that place the entire way through
By blackace Go To Postis that why so many people consently seek feedback?People seek feedback to figure out what’s wrong. Why would I seek feedback from someone who can’t articulate what’s wrong?
By Xpike Go To PostBecause it is in a way less abstract of a way to communicate yourself, a good song may take you to a place in a second, but good writting needs to hold you in that place the entire way throughSo poems don’t count as writing?
By /sy Go To PostPeople seek feedback to figure out what’s wrong. Why would I seek feedback from someone who can’t articulate what’s wrong? To see if people are interested in your work?
If writing was so easy and drawing was so hard why are 99% of videogame stories terrible but their artwork good
I'm sure there are a lot of people who are good enough at writing to think they have a shot at it professionally but bad enough to have their work consistently criticized, ignored, and derided.
You'll never guess my source

What do you think?Isn't exactly selling but checking if people mess with whatever style you are working with now or whatever.
Another artist can give you technical feedback but a non-artist can tell you if it's pleasing to the eye without looking at it through an artist's eye.

visual arts are the easiest for sure
imagine if the average person put as much time into drawing as they did writing

By rerixo Go To Postvisual arts are the easiest for surePeople would be shocked to find out how much of music is rooted in the same strict principals that you can't really escape no matter which instrument you are playing.

you don't really hit up an art critic for the "how to's" or technical critique you need
they look at whole packages and compare it to shit they've seen or what they think is unique or worth everyone's time
