I'm not a Death Note fan, in the slightest, but I like this a lot, for this exact reason.
I'm kinda fascinated by the geopolitical fallout from a world power supposedly having the power of the Death Note.
Eizouken is the best new show in the last few years as far as I'm concerned. I am blown away every episode.

eizouken looks really nice but i struggle to make it through the episodes because they're so boring.... think somali and the forest spirit is the best new show this season by far

I'll probably give it another shot at some point. I think Eizouken is super gripping! The characters are fantastic and the imagination sequences are so well done. I can't gush about it enough.
I recently found out the director of it is the guy who has done a few movies in recent years, Masaaki Yuasa. I've actually not yet seen The Night Is Young Walk on Girl or Lu Over the Wall, but I saw Ride Your Wave during Fantastic Fest and really enjoyed it. It's coming out in the US soon via GKIDS -- I went in blind as was the case with basically every movie I saw at FF and really liked the "twist" -- the trailer though explicitly spells it out which is a bit of a shame.

Eizouken is right up my alley as a fan of Japanese 2D animation. Pretty much guaranteed to love it. The OST is incredible as well.
