People ain't got the free time to be playing between 5-10 GAAS 'experiences' at once and they're going to feel like they're missing out on each one if they're spread too thin. And most people already have that 'sunk cost' thought about the GAAS that they're already invested in.
Shit, I still play WoW and Team Fortress 2 and I'm sure a big part of that is that I've already put in time.
I think it's too easy. Devs just can't get out of their own way. Some of the most low effort products rake in the most money. It's not that hard to manufacture incentives for returning players during a lull in releases.

15 hours in and honestly, I kinda like Mafia III despite grinding samey missions and really not playing anything like the other games in the series.
The soundtrack is fantastic, driving feels fun, shooting feels alright, the stealth is basic af but serviceable. Overall I’d say it’s a slightly above average game with some sparsely spread out high notes. It’s held my attention and kept me playing longer than other similar games do, and I’ll very likely finish it at this rate.
Despite that, I’d struggle to recommend it to pretty much anybody. Maybe someone that just fucking loves grinding open world games? Do those people exist?

SBMM should only be a thing for ranked modes, imo. Casual modes should prioritize connection, then "reputation" (how fun/not fun a player is to be in a game with), and then skill rating.
