I don't mind filmmakers taking risks.
I'm just not convinced Nolan can land a "normal" movie, either, because he doesn't care to. If he did, he might end up making better movies.

Good pacing, coherent dialog, a plot not obsessed with the concept of time.
He could start there. But as I have been saying, for Nolan it would be a movie not written by him. He could really excel in that because he's a supremely weak screenwriter and a great technical talent.

He can do what ever qualifies for normal movies, but I think over time, he etched out a niche for himself for better or worse.
By Daz Go To PostMemento was pretty good.wasn't it?! Its almost never mentioned ;_;
By Perfect Blue Go To PostDamn never seen Nolan described as too esoteric before, dude makes summer blockbusters. The number one complaint of Nolan's writing is that it's extremely convoluted and requires a ton of exposition to explain. Ellen Page's Ariadne exits for that sole reason in Inception.
its like some of you have wiped The Dark Knight from your memory.
imagine if Snyder made a film half as good?

By Kabro Go To Postits like some of you have wiped The Dark Knight from your memory.Snyder and Nolan have a lot more in common than people want to admit 😂
imagine if Snyder made a film half as good?
I get that complaint.
Heck, even Washington's character is basically a the MC of a Video game, almost all his dialogue is ripped straight from a dialogue tree - I swear if he was swapped with Geralt from TW3 you wouldnt miss a beat. It may have been on purpose - who knows. I won't go into it without getting all spoilery.

By reilo Go To PostNot surprised given that Nolan named him "The Protagonist"
As shit as this was in practice, I don’t think it’s any worse in theory than shit like Drive or Antichrist or Once
It’s just Nolan thinks he’s clever so keeps having the Protagonist refer to himself as the protagonist lol
By Not Go To PostNolan StephensonMissed opportunity for a Nolan Christopher joke. Never trust a man with two first names.

"Stupid name."
"But you'll never forget it."
Very annoying that without Stephenson we'd call the little picture next to my post an "id image" or something. I know, there's a book thread

jesus, I didn't think it stooped that low
Still kind dumb though
By i can get you a toe Go To PostTired of talking about or hearing about Nolan tbhit could be worse and be Star Wars again
By Perfect Blue Go To PostFair enough if you don't like it, I'm not trying to convince you one way or another lol not sure why the snark is needed.yal know my snark by now and that ain't even it lol
Only seen it once in the movie theatre and felt it was a great experience that didn't drown you in explanatory dialogue like the rest of his films. It looks good and sounds good and sometimes that's all it needs. *shrugs* Don't even really like Nolan as a filmmaker much.
its barely a movie
By /bacon Go To PostI would watch a Star Wars with Nolan at the helm.
Star Wars fans wouldn't. And then I wouldn't know who to dislike more.
I know I said I was sick of Nolan talk but
Best part of his films are Zimmer's score, the parts that are thrilling wouldn't be half as good without that man's scoring capabilities
And his best was Prestige even though I know not scored by Hans

Arrival is such a great movie. Would be one of my favorites ever if Amy Adams had any presence and Jeremy Renner was never born. Emely Blunt would have been a far better white woman
By bud Go To Posti liked renner in the flashback episodes of louie.yeah what a shame.
man, that was such a great series.
By inky Go To PostI hate Renner in everything he's in, but Arrival is a top, top movie.manofculture.jpg
<3 Amy
By reilo Go To PostHe's godawful in Avengers for many reasons but most notably in the most recent oneEasily the most boring character in the Avengers team lol
They tried to make him the emotional core in the last one by turning him into a vigilante and then they forget 5 minutes later that he was chopping dudes heads off with a katana

Is that what they were trying to do lmao, always felt odd to me, but gosh endgame is so good. Entertainment history
