By Daz Go To PostWhere, brother Wooden?!!
a chain here. got a price alarm at 5am about it from pricerunner, and they were gone an hour later. inshallah for insomnia.
By bud Go To Postthat isn't a fair comparison.
nolan makes big summer blockbuster movies; tarantino doesn't.
and nolan didn't get big budgets until he started the batman movies (adapted from the comics) which were hugely successful. and he's working with warner bros. who can greenlight much bigger projects than miramax who did most of tarantino's films.
if tarantino were to make the switch to making movies like that, and if he'd work with bigger studios, then, yes, he'd definitely get similar budgets.
Nolan makes big summer blockbusters like lots of blockbuster directors, so Tarantino isn’t the most direct comparison, but my argument is - and has been consistent! - there is no one currently in the movie business quite in Nolan’s position, and he is unique in that he has carte blanche from studios to do whatever he wants on whatever budget, and has name/brand recognition to the point where original movies like Interstellar - which is certainly not an action blockbuster - are making 700m dollars.
Tom Cruise is the biggest movie star in the world and MI6 is only making 80-90m more than. Tarantino’s highest grossing movie, Django Unchained, made 450m and was made for 100m. Yes, he is working in an entirely different world when it comes to filmmaking. But my original argument was that Nolan’s position is the biggest filmmaker around right now. Hypotheticals with Tarantino making blockbusters doesn’t refute that.
By Xpike Go To Postfirst ww was alright until they show the main villain then it all goes to shitim really hoping they bring out eva green/circe and this is all just a troll ;_;
By Wahabipapangus Go To Posta chain here. got a price alarm at 5am about it from pricerunner, and they were gone an hour later. inshallah for insomnia.is that a local chain?
By Daz Go To Postis that a local chain?
Nah nationwide. wupti.dk
By JesalR Go To PostWhat makes Cruise the biggest movie star?He isn't. The whole concept of "movie star" is mostly non-existent these days and is a relic of the old Hollywood studio system.
Also I'm pretty sure the highest paid actor is Robert Downey Jr. or The Rock. Cruise isn't even in the top 10
By JesalR Go To PostWhat makes Cruise the biggest movie star?Consistency and longevity across various genres of films.
It would be Will Smith if he picked better roles and had some kind of edge outside Bad Boys.
The likes of Cruise, Smith etc are the last of the Movie Star breed who would get top billing to get bums on seats.
Nowadays, the property takes priority.
By Wahabipapangus Go To PostNah nationwide. wupti.dkThanks, C9s are pretty much sold out everywhere here in Brexitland.
By reilo Go To PostReady Player One made nearly $600mil, wtf you on about n8
Adaptation of a hugely popular novel, Spielberg is not the sell
By reilo Go To PostJurassic Park made $1bil in 1993 lol
This was 27 years ago lol
reckon di caprio and pitt were the last big Hollywood stars, people like RDJ and The Rock are popular for sure but no one went to see Dr. Doolittle just for RDJ
By Xpike Go To Postreckon di caprio and pitt were the last big Hollywood stars, people like RDJ and The Rock are popular for sure but no one went to see Dr. Doolittle just for RDJPitt? what?
no
you could make an argument for Di Caprio but he really hitched his wagon to big-name directors.
RDJ, The Rock, Kevin Hart, are probably the closest movie stars in the present day. The latter two’s films are pretty much vehicles solely for them.
The "Movie Star" concept is ambiguous. Somebody like Tom Hanks might not make a movie a automatic blockbuster but you can't tell me he isnt one of the most famous people in the world.
By n8 dogg Go To PostLeo’s probably the biggest star re: audience draw
Not sure about that.
By Daz Go To PostNot sure about that.
Maybe, maybe not. Movie star concept is pretty much dead, but i can’t think who else people really turn out for. Cruise and Leo the ones that come to mind, but even then Cruise had the mummy lol
yeah no. Leo choses high profile movies, the rock stars in every trash he gets offered and all his movies do well.
Actors hold no where near the weight they once did but i think Leo is one of the biggest.
Oh actually no has to be the rock
Oh actually no has to be the rock
leo made two movies in the last 5 years
a QT movie and a Inarritu one.
call me when he makes 400 million every 6 month on some Rock trash.

There's still star power even if you're not starstruck by anyone in particular, it's how Will Smith is so successful.
By n8 dogg Go To PostShit i didnt know even trash like rampage and skyscraper made 300-400mChina helps. He does really well over there.
Leo only works with prestige directors, Tarantino, Scorsese, Nolan etc
Limits his wider appeal.
The Movie star is versatile - can do action, comedy, drama etc
That's what makes Cruise so damn good
Collateral you guys...

I don’t know how The Rock doesn’t qualify. The most he has ever acted in a film is in Moana. Every other time, he is literally just himself. It makes no sense for him to be cast in films if he wasn’t a draw.
think its also cuz no one really gotta act anymore, just have the cgi monsters and the big fights and people will go watch it

Someone hasn’t seen Be Cool m8
Collateral is a Michael Mann film. Cruise hitches himself to prestige directors as well tbf. Nothing wrong with that.
Remember Edge of Tomorrow? Prob one of my favourite scifi films of that decade and it flopped so badly they had to change the name

By GQman2121 Go To PostPitt's CV is hella slept on.
Generally or for "star power"... not sure if there many with Brad's range.

By Xpike Go To Postlets ignore super heroes and nolanCon Air. Although Nic Cage might qualify as a superhero in that film. Dude gets shot and doesn’t even flinch.
what film should i watch tonight
By Perfect Blue Go To PostCollateral is a Michael Mann film. Cruise hitches himself to prestige directors as well tbf. Nothing wrong with that.I was using Collateral to show that leading man needn't always be the protag.

I dont recall Edge of Tomorrow flopping or needing a name change.
Isn't it getting a sequel?
