The Joker leads with 11 nominations, 1917, The Irishman and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood are behind with 10.
Only 13 movies in history have had more nominations than Joker.
Can't see it getting more than a couple of awards.
Can't see it getting more than a couple of awards.
It's "only" 11 nominations after all, IndieWire had put the Joker twice on the adapted screenplay list.
Not a single nomination for The Farewell is a disappointment, it's easily on my top 5 of the year, probably even top 3.

joker lmao
guess they were afraid of getting bombed if the nerds didnt get their respect

By Daz Go To PostYou guys sure love your film awards.
Joker is just the Black Panther 'look we nominated a popular film, we're so in touch' of this year. Number of awards is pretty irrelevant given no one really cares about the awards outside of the core picture/actor ones.

I think there’s more love for Joker within the academy tbh. Getting director, actor and screenplay noms is a hell of a lot more prestigious than BP’s craft ones and then Picture on top.

And people care about the awards, most movies end up getting a boost in the box office after nomination/wins. 1917 getting the Golden Globe for Best Drama definitely helped it have a much higher opening weekend than originally tracked.
That's why I want Parasite to win some big awards and wanted The Farewell to be nominated so more people would take notice of those films because they deserve to have an audience as big as possible.

In the end, awards don’t matter; Welles didn’t win one, Kubrick didn’t win one. Nothing is going to stop me from saying Widows or Uncut Gems or Inside Llewyn Davis or whatever it may be were among the best of the year.
It’d just be nice if good things got recognition in the eye of a broader audience.
I always think of the hypothetical: someone makes it their mission to watch ONE movie from every single year, and to narrow their choices they are just going to watch the film that the industry themselves has anointed the best film of the year. They’re going to be watching the Artist instead of Tree of Life, Kramer vs Kramer instead of Apocalypse Now, Driving Miss Daisy instead of Do the Right Thing, American Beauty instead of the Matrix.
green book for fucks sake

Had no idea that Joker was so hated upon here. Thought it was pretty well made. I definitely get the best actor nomination, Phoenix did a great job with the character. If best picture were limited to 5 movies it probably wouldn't get that nomination, but since they pick 10 I also don't really mind it got that one as well. Oh well, who really cares about these awards anyways?
For me Parasite and 1917 were the standouts so far from last year. Followed by Marriage Story, The Irishman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Joker probably. Still need to see The Two Popes, Pain and Glory, The Farewell, Little Women, Jojo Rabbit, Ford vs. Ferrari and Uncut Gems.

Joker is all cock no bollocks: the movie
And it absolutely would be getting the nom if it was 5, because it has whole industry support (hence the 11 noms). It’d have been 1917, Irishman, OUATIH, Parasite and Joker.

I know it's a Netflix film and everything but I really enjoyed Dolemite is My Name, Murphy especially killed it in the role. Kinda sad even Star Wars and Avengers got more attention during awards season
By data Go To PostWhere's Crawl?I’m wondering what you want it nominated for. I liked the movie but I wouldn’t say it did anything amazing deserving of a nomination.
This is bullshit

The bit with a Spiderman mural wasn't? Clearly all part of the Disney deal.
Also, I don't have anything against the movie, but can't we move on from this style of trailer already? From the first piano note to the last reveal it's as tired as comic book movie trailers have ever been.

That bit at the end was unexpected.
so now we know why Marvel got Spidey back lol
Anyways, this trailer looked way better than anticipated. Jared Leto not being a try hard really stood out as well--who knew subtle can actually work sometimes? Pretty good proof that the direction he got for Joker was bad.

I saw a tweet the other day that said 'best international film' is a way of protecting American films. Would say most years the international slate is more interesting than best picture.

That’s because there are more voices and perspectives in that category

1917 was a weird movie.
On a technical level I feel like it did a great job with everything but it was still a boring movie. My only real issue was that we were supposed to give a shit about Tommen

EDIT: Ah, my bad. Have yet to see Little Wemons.
Apparently this is Comic Book Movie Trailer week. After Morbius yesterday, Sony dropped a new trailer for Bloodshot and Marvel dropped another trailer for Black Widow.
Black Widow seems competently made but just not that interesting. Bloodshot will probably be a bit shit but I am all for Vin Diesel as a self-regenerating hitman.
