By Freewheelin Go To Postlol why would you do thisI don't have an answer for you.
Also watched Mindommar through a 25 minute youtube reaction video. It was ok, really pretty. It's rare that movie or video game gore gets a reaction from me but there are a couple of shocking shots.
smh is this how the kids are watching movies these days? *yells at cloud*
I liked Midsommar more than Hereditary. That cliff scene was genuinely shocking

i don't get ari aster and the praise he gets. aren't horror movies supposed to be scary or unnerving?
outside of a few scenes in midsommar, i'm left feeling underwhelmed.

It was probably on his iphone too.
After not seeing the Shawshank Redemption for the first time in about 15 years and initially thinking it was boring, young me was an idiot lmao.
What a film, so beautifully written and shot

Rules of Attraction is a weird movie
It's like someone turned MTV Undressed into a movie with Patrick Bateman's brother

By Perfect Blue Go To PostThis… list isn't as good as you think it is lol. A24 is fine, but yeah.Speaking of Perfect Blue, I randomly re-watched it and Paprika over the weekend. Perfect Blue is a fucking ride. The scene where Fake Mima "fully manifests" and skips away on those light poles is so fucking haunting. Paprika feels like Kon's equivalent of a blockbuster. More bombastic than most of his other work yet also a lot more batshit insane. Fantastic movie.

Aronofsky pretty much just ripped it off for Black Swan.
Have you see Millennium Actress? That may be Kon's best film.

At least ten of those films are great. Not that I would stan a production company because that’s fucking dumb, but it’s equally ridiculous to say their output is trash. If you look at that list and say they put out shit movies, then your opinions are, to say the least, fairly contrarian.
By /sy Go To Postn8 posted all that trash like he was making a statement lmao
you’re right, ‘the souvenir: ending explained on collider.com (3 min video)’ was a bad movie that we both watched

Honestly one of my favourite movies lol
Watched Da 5 Bloods.
Generally decent movie and Delroy Lindo playing DY was a highlight.
Main issue I had (other than dodgy CGI) was that the movie doesn't properly reconcile the racist forces that drive the US imperialism/capitalism that found them fighting in Vietnam, and indeed brought African slaves to the US , with it's treatment of black people and black soldiers. It reaches for it early on then seems to pretty much drop it by the end. It just kind of ends on a Black Lives Mtter twee end note that seems to misunderstand the important themes the film had been built on.

Spoilers for the film:
I thought that the fact that they were foiled by the various pitfalls (and in particular the Vietnamese mercs who clearly held grudges against American invaders - because of course from their perspective it didn't matter whether they were black, white, whatever, they were invaders) spoke to the notion that these black veterans are still punished for trying to garner wealth for themselves and claim what they're owed. Ultimately it was the US imperialism/capitalism that led them there in the first place, and that meant they had to hide the gold (because they couldn't walk out freely with it), and that meant three of them died, still fighting in that very same war. I think actually quite a hopeless (in that, there was a lack of hope) movie, really, despite its attempts at conciliating their newfound wealth with the BLM movement. Black people still dying in pointless wars for money 30 years later.

I need to watch Millennium Actress.

Nolan lifted aspects of Paprika for Inception, much like how Aronovsky lifted scenes from Perfect Blue for Black Swan.
RIP Satoshi Kon
By Hitch Go To PostWatching Rise of Skywalkershame nobody thought about doing away with all that
Rey's family history is some boring shit to put so much focus on
oh wait..
One of the worst films in recent memory. Entirely soulless, made-by-committee vanilla bullshit that also manages to be incompetent and offensive to its heritage.
Last half hour has just been a string of attempts to get people hollering in cinemas, to the detriment of making a decent film
It's so fucking bad. And I thought I'd take some smug sense of self-satisfaction at how they fucked it up to pander to mega-cretins, but I couldn't even feel that by the end.
Genuinely can't fathom how you can play it this safe and still make it actively bad.
TFA was merely a bit bland, this is all over the place and not in a vibrant way.
TLJ easily the best of the three, but I can see why a lot of people dislike it.

This is exactly it lol. Like, at least something like TLJ or BvS (love the first, dislike the second) are experimental within their genre boundaries. And then you have something like TFA or Endgame which is safe but not offensively so. TROS is a wild, wild failure of a film.
Such a visually dull set piece to end it on as well. It's like the arena design of a game trying to keep the frame rate from tanking.
Kylodeath scene worst since Talia al Ghul

By n8 dogg Go To PostHave Adam Driver and don’t give him a line of dialogue for the last 45 minutes brehsDriver, Isaac and Boyega are all better actors than Ridley. Maybe they wanted to emulate the original and the prequels by having the weakest actor be the lead
Were there legit people who moaned about Rey having humble beginnings after TLJ? It's so much more interesting (and feel-good, which is what this film is all about) than power through lineage.
I assume that concept is explored much more satisfactorily in the expanded universe. Being so obsessed with the big characters that you need the main new ones to be descendants of them is some bullshit.
