man let's be honest Knives Out is a super fun time but if it wasn't made by Rian Johnson no one would've cared about it
best move of his career was making a polarizing SW movie

its kinda true in that star wars brought his name to the spotlight
but knives out is still a great film

I don't know of Rian has the catalog to discuss him much yet, i'd give it another movie or two before I make any concrete decisions.
By Kawhic Go To Posti was a fan of his before SW.i'm vry surprised that you found looper to be amazing.

By LFMartins86 Go To PostBrick is such an underrated movie.I know ppl clown on it for feeling super filmschool final project circa 2006 but I love Brick top to bottom. 100% my shit. Brothers Bloom is the most underrated work Rian's done imo. It was a gut punch.
Sonic will bank just over $60M on opening. With a budget of $85M. Should basically guarantee the second one. So I can't fucking wait. Deserves all the coins.

Just got back from the Sonic movie. I thought it was entertaining. Not a great movie, per se, but I was happy I spent the time and money to watch it.
It's kind of funny how we have a movie that was saved thanks to fan outrage just 2 months after a movie that was ruined due to the same reason.
Star Wars doesn't need the fans to ruin itself.
The reaction to TLJ put them in a difficult position, but sounds to me like even with that in mind they made a complete mess of it.

By FortuneFaded Go To PostJust watched Parasite. Classic Oscar bait.No.
By FortuneFaded Go To PostIf they did remake Back To The Future, Marty McFly would be going back to 1990.just in time to kill Kurt Cobain and avoid grunge taking over

Watching Sonic and Fantasy Island today. Really looking forward to the latter, because it seems like a strong contender for worst movie of the year and I didn't think The Grudge would have competition so soon. At least I'll be watching it in AMC Prime, thanks A-List
Edit:
Sonic was okay. I would say a 6/10.
Fantasy Island was like a 3/10 during the first two acts, but the third act is just pure fuckery. I would give it a 1/10. How is your third act so bad it makes the first two acts, which were already bad, look good?

a hidden life offers three hours of malick. how can you say no to that?
beautiful film. ridiculous cinematography. this man is also the king of the jump cut; the editing is beautiful as always.
three things:
1. maybe the film is a tad too long. will have to do a rewatch to make sure.
2. it's such a shame it wasn't shot entirely in german. the performances are good, but it's weird seeing german/austrian actors, all with an accent, act in english in a story that takes place in austria.
3. only euro lads (@penny) will remember this: commissaris rex himself (the real one: tobias moretti) is in this film! i used to watch that show every week.

Not an Oscar Bait, but I am still shocked over all the attention it gets. Really good film but man, the praise of it is just over the top.
Memoir of a Murderer > Parasite
But I am happy it won Oscar just to see some salty tears!

Only took one movie that get's a bit of attention through mass media and they're all hooked.
Besides Parasite is far easier to digest than other movies from Bong Joon-ho or other directors like Park Chan-wook, Jee-woon Kim and so on.
I doubt alot of people will give these movies a chance. It's just that one movie that will soak up the attention and that's about it.
My favorite new thing will be hearing "Parasite isn't even the best Bong movie" for the next eternity
By Not Go To PostMy favorite new thing will be hearing "Parasite isn't even the best Bong movie" for the next eternityHow else are you supposed to show people how cool you are?
Parasite is a great movie, take it for what it is, not for what other people rate it or if it's the best or worst movie of said director
I just love that Bong is finally getting massive appreciation worldwide, the man is pretty great.
He was at the Red Carpet of the Oscars saying how much he liked The Farewell and when he saw Celine Sciamma (the director of Portrait Of A Lady On Fire) at
a post Oscars party, he handed over the Best International Feature Oscar to her and said "You should be holding this".
