Matrix Reloaded
Decent overall, suffers for going so flashy that it loses all it's grit and ingenuity. Almost felt like they were trying to spend as much money as they could, regardless of whether it made the film any better. Fight scene in the park with the Smiths is right up there with Die Another Day, probably worse given how long it lasts. Morpheus speech in Zion was a bit Star Wars, in a very bad way. Lawrence Fishburne as always is captivating as fuck. Jada Pinkett Smith can't act for toffee. Link's wife, lads.
Was I supposed to watch Animatrix first. Feel like there were a few things in the set-up where it was assumed that I knew something I didn't.

Watched LOTR: TFOTR Extended in 4K HDR. Still a masterpiece. I'm not a fan of the extended edition of the latter two films, but I've really enjoyed this one. Had they trimmed the extended scenes in the Shire, which are unneeded, it would've been perfect.
Even so, I'd still recommend the theatrical version to first-timers and Tolkien virgins.

By LFMartins86 Go To PostSo the Tenet 4K is out there. If I'm going to watch it. better be in 4K IMAX HDR.
It is.
Started Fellowship of the Ring last night in 4k. Scenery is beautiful, effects shots look bad, and I fell asleep after they met Aragorn. Finish it tonight maybe
Or watch Mank, the fucking Internet is going to make me watch Mank. I haven't even seen Citizen Kane

Blade Runner 2049 looks incredible in 4K.
By Kuma Go To PostPerfect Blue might be in top 10 of all timeAbsolutely. Would also highly recommend Millennium Actress if you haven’t seen it. It’s arguably better.

Top 10 car chase scene though.
Tenet was ok. I think expecting it to be very shit helped. Nolan's understanding and depiction of time travel / inverse entropy (lol)is about as mundane as his understanding and depiction of dreams.
At least some of the action wasn't so terrible (save for that quarry scene which looked look some extravagant amateur paintball tournament).

the hobbit is on tv.
the excessive bloom and very obvious green screen make for a very ugly looking movie.
it looks a lot worse than i remember.

i downloaded it just to see that scene. sensational stuff.
anyway i decided against upgrading my sound system for my tv, so went ahead and just put my old pc speakers (Edifier S350DB, which are decent, when the left speaker isnt cutting fucking out, as i periodically have had trouble with) and it works alright. Gotta move before I want to invest in a surround sound system.
Watched the lighthouse. Good movie.

I watched Stalker, which is one of the most gorgeous movies I've seen in some time, although the story / characters / writing didn't do a great deal for me.
By Daz Go To PostMillennium Actress is amazingnever actually watched the movie but it has one of my favorite bits of animation by Tetsuya Nishio
Nolan with his lame gatekeeping. TeneT wouldn’t have been any better at the theater. And maybe if he wasn’t so full of himself the movie would’ve had a heart.
Lol the entitlement is off the charts. They are so afraid of being turned into “TV Stars”. How about you just focus on making great movies? Douchebags
“Some of our industry’s biggest filmmakers and most important movie stars went to bed the night before thinking they were working for the greatest movie studio and woke up to find out they were working for the worst streaming service,” filmmaker Christopher Nolan, whose relationship with Warners dates back to Batman Begins in 2005, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Nolan added: “Warner Bros. had an incredible machine for getting a filmmaker’s work out everywhere, both in theaters and in the home, and they are dismantling it as we speak. They don’t even understand what they’re losing. Their decision makes no economic sense and even the most casual Wall Street investor can see the difference between disruption and dysfunction.”

hot take but i have no issue with a creator not liking that his project gets released differently than what he signed up for.
buuut it's nolan who just had to put out his shitty movie in the pandemic so ehhh.

I don’t see a lot wrong with that statement lol
WB should have okayed it, or at least discussed it, with their talent. Even if they were going to do it regardless. Common courtesy innit

By Laboured Go To PostAlso HBO Max is 1080p non-HDR streamed trash.wonder woman is 4k hdr so i assume all the big movies will be going forward.
Just because Nolan is clearly a pretentious arrogant douchebag doesn’t mean he’s necessarily wrong here
"Now we're on the worst streaming service" is imperatively in the wrong, you're throwing a shit tonne of people under the bus, don't give a fuck how good you think your shit stinks
If HBO's approach is successfull, you can be sure that other companies will follow along. Only the big chain cinemas will be left if that happens and prices will go up to sustain it, making the streaming options even more appealing.

Yes, this was a trash comment, agreed.
But it was. Nolan did get his shitty movie released during a pandemic.
Also these movies are made by hundreds of people, and the directors aren’t the ones financing them.
And WB is still releasing the movies in theaters, so if Mr Dipshit is right, people will flock into theaters to watch them instead of staying at home.
The “talent” here is afraid of not getting paid what they thought they would from the backend, because you don’t make Matrix 4 for creative reasons, you do it to cash in. “Movie stars” innit.
Cinema theaters should go back to being premium experiences instead of the overpriced trash half of them are.

By Daz Go To PostNolan shouldn't be vilified for wanting his work to be presented the way he agreed it would be.
It's not about art. It's about money, as it always is. You have contracts with backend revenue commitments that aren't being paid on the side of the art talent, and you have a halted production and release line that is costing the studio that is working with borrowed money, cash for every day that is wasted and not monetized.
While this currently is a lose lose situation on both sides either way, the problem Warner is facing is that you can't get the genie back into the bottle once the crisis is over. Day and date simultaneous release is going to stay, so lucrative back-end deals for artists are not going to be possible anymore. And considering the reaction on the talent side, there have been no talks to mitigate these effects (with exception for Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman 84 apparently).
While I agree money plays a significant part - the thing is, the talent revolting is not unexpected. The studios were probably flirting with the idea of day and date releases - the pandemic forced their hands. It will be interesting to see how all these films perform.
It would be a damn shame to see the cinemas diminished or go away.

Thing is though, Cinemas don't make a penny from the films - thats why a medium coke costs 5000 bidens.
I really don't see how they come out of this.

By Daz Go To PostMatinees, brehs.essaktly
my local theater has english imax showings that are usually near empty in week 2 of any movie at any time but matinees are basically an imax theater for yourself.
fucking love it.
i dont get it anyways, the content is not going to be exclusive to HBO Max, they are still going to release the movies on theaters, just now you have the option to not go and watch at home
Unless Nolan and co. know deep down most people don't want to go to the movie theater unless they're forced to.
