Think it was when after I proposed to my wife did I tell her I was seeing someone.
By Doicare Go To PostWait, what? That's another genuinely disturbing reply. Multiple people posted offensive stuff, some of it i put down to ignorance, some i put down to anger that their party of choice was about to lose/had lost. One post didn't shape my view, you seem to have completely misunderstood what was being said.As you are doing.
People having different cultures isn't intangible, many cultures have opposing & extreme views on how they treat women, sex, abortion, arranged marriages, what clothes are deemed appropriate to wear, whether it's okay to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, gun laws, toxic masculinity, the death penalty, drugs, racism, hitting children, what should be taught in school. Saying you prefer how your own culture does things doesn't make you racist & making generalisations about people who say that is vapid, lazy & offensive.
Of course cultures vary. The rules of how to behave, what is accepted in society. The framework of ordinary life. That is different between groups; nations, religions, social classes, you name it.
The people who are defending their culture because they see others as a threat to the survival of their culture they are often hard pressed to explain what their culture is. They don't know, they don't care. It's just an intangible feeling they are comfortable with. They're 'home' safe and sound. That is until the brown people move in next door.
I'm calling out all people who say they are trying to defend their culture. It's good to defend your heritage, to be proud of your culture. It is bad to see it as something that's static and belongs to you and only the people who look like you. It is wrong to think others can't add to your culture. That they don't belong. They are not actively being racist, they would deny they are racist, but ignorance and xenophobia is what fuels their beliefs. They are racist.
I'll lump anyone who brings up "the war on Christmas" in that group unless they actually have something credible to say that they didn't read on Facebook or in Tabloids/Fox News or whatever. Anyone who did for a moment just think for themselves. Does not repeat the same bullet points ad nauseum. I've seen it enough with the Zwarte Pieten debate. "We won't change it because it's tradition. We won't change it because they tell us to." I'm tired of that crap.
By Hixx Go To Postyou pretended to be seeing a girl for 2 years?I dont tell my parents anything, so they kept thinking I wasnt seeing anyone. It was a bother to tell them I went to dates, but wasnt serious with anyone since she's pretty old fashioned.

Atleast you agree cultures vary but then you keep saying people who defend their culture can't explain it & 'really' they just dislike brown people as you put it, that's disgusting. I've already pointed out many key differences but just so you're not confused, my culture is anti gun, it's equal rights for women, it's okay to be gay, lesbian or transgender, abortion is something everybody should have access to, it's not okay to be racist, it's not okay to hit children, the death penalty is wrong, the police shouldn't discriminate, you can wear what you want, forced arranged marriages are bad etc. You only want to talk about the benefits of other cultures when there are both good & bad parts.
Just take one example of the gun culture in the US, the majority of English culture thinks it's moronic & totally wrong while in America the majority think it's a fundamental way of life & they'd rather die than give up their guns. What would happen if you smashed our two cultures together? There's no compromise to be had it's either guns or no guns, the population of the US is almost 400 million while the UK is under 70 million.... you honestly think personal firearms would be abolished in that new 'super' culture? But magically let's say that happens, do you think the hundreds of millions of Americans that have had their gun culture taken away from them would be happy about it? For them their culture has just been made worse & who am i as an Englishman to tell them what to do? When it comes to guns i completely disagree with their opinion & way of life but i respect their right to have it.
Can't we all just agree that English "culture" deserves to be dragged through poisoned bogs, shit on by stray dogs, lit on fire, screamed at while it burns away to nothing, have its ashes mixed with the urine of all the nations of the world subjected to its imperialism (so, like, most of them), then the mixture encased in a lead sarcophagus inscribed with hateful graffiti and cursed with innumerable hexes, loaded onto a rocket and launched for a very long journey to the black hole at the center of the galaxy?
Is that too much to ask?

Only good Swedish food is imported ones with our own twist, like kebab pizzas,
Having said that, IKEA food pics are not a standard of anything, similar to their furnitures it's wear and tear.
And yes, traditional British food sucks as well, but the Portuguese food I've had, bar authentic Nandos Ofc, is barely better.

Spreading of culture, you guys should see Nightingale, from the director of Babadook. It's about the mass rape and murder the British Empire committed against indigenous populations.

It was fine Kidjr. I would say just show more enthusiasm in the first few minutes to perk people up and get some to shut off their phones.
It seems some of your mates were still a bit reserved to go all out, but that will come with time. Encourage them to be how they are in Whatsapp, because I'm sure the energy there was what lead you guys to make that podcast in the first place.

By Doicare Go To PostNo i understand what you're saying i just don't agree with most of it, you keep ignoring very basic points & you keep repeating things that are your opinion as if they're facts.I have yet to see anyone argue from a point of view that isn't rooted in racism, sexism or some conspiracy theory. I have taken a hard stance, no more bullshit. Yes it is my opinion which stems from my personal experience with a certain group of people with a very specific opinion about how their culture is under threat.
Atleast you agree cultures vary but then you keep saying people who defend their culture can't explain it & 'really' they just dislike brown people as you put it, that's disgusting. I am talking culture in a very specific context where there is conflict yes. That is where questions arise about what is 'correct'. I'm only talking about my own culture or the more broad Western European culture wherein the same issues pop up. There isn't always a good or bad answer, it's more nuanced. I know change is hard. Change is not always progress but God damn have I found that some people are just morally bankrupt.
In this hypothetical scenario most Brits would not turn to guns nor would most American have to change their ways.
The firearms debate is honestly much more political than it is just cultural. Without the weapons lobbying and NRA donations to republicans you'd find a much smaller backlash. You're also mistaken when you assume there is one single American gun culture every American prescribes to. Just like how there are some Brits who are enthousiasts or do own a gun for hunting (or criminals but I digress). Gun laws vary between states, some of which being much more restrictive than others. A minority would be pissed if guns would be outlawed no doubt about it. I could see outbursts of violence proving exactly the point of why they shouldn't have guns in the first place. Now this is just politics, it gets difficult when talking gun culture. I don't know what to tell someone who beliefs he should have a gun for self defense. I don't know what to tell someone who has a stockpile for when the government turns tyrannical. Facts and logic do not work. They have created an environment paradoxically much unsafer but try to tell them that. Hopefully they soften over time when British culture assimilates theirs in this hypothetical scenario or they die resisting. It would have to be a strong and harsh governing body entering their lives fortifying their beliefs. Oh wait that was exactly what they were worried about.
