It is a beachy place it's just so much more...pleasant than Bangkok. Don't get me wrong, Bangkok is sensational fun, Phuket just combines the fun of Bangkok with a MUCH nicer environment, Bangkok is just another city after all.
Eat as much as you can, try as many different things as you can. It's all just sensational (and pretty cheap). Papaya salad is a must.
