I randomly installed Steam on my Nvidia Shield TV last night, purchased some steam code off a random site (is this illegal? Faux pas?) and got A Short Hike. What a game. I don't even game that much anymore - maybe play 1/2 hours a month, if that, let alone finishing any game.
This one I finished it in 1 4/5 hour sitting, just a wonderful game to play during the holidays.

If it was a site like fanatical or indie gala that sell bundles and random keys they are 100% legit. Sites like cdkeys buy retail keys in bulk from cheaper regions, and are also legit (ie not stolen cc purchased like g2a). Basically, just check isthereanydeal.com and any retailer from the list is legit.
