By JesalR Go To PostIt has come down pretty aggressively over the last decades. I don't know how long they were in theatres, but back in the 90s the average gap between theatrical release and home release was ~180 days, down to 120 in the mid-00s, then down to 75 days pre-pandemic. 45 days now that all the studios own/are owned by streaming giantsTop Gun Maverick will supposedly have a 120 day window because Paramount have to bow down to the will of Tom Cruise.

Yes Disney.
Making a drama for Choi Min Sik.
Him playing a gambler sounds perfect.

I thought the first episode was not for me. Will give the second a watch, but then might be time to bail out.
By Laboured Go To PostOWK is unbelievably amateurish. Just a fan cosplay production with a moderate budget. The production and editing errors have really killed the show for me. I don't think I'm being picky about it either. The show is genuinely confusing to watch. They want you to accept certain eventualities in the show, but never establish how the characters have actually made it to the specified endpoint.
Kenobi is cornered by Vader and stormtroopers, with only a thin line of fire separating them. There's a cut away to a different scene and then a cut back a minute later. Kenobi has safely escaped. There's no way he should have been able to do that in the space of a minute. The Empire could easily have walked around the fire and probably through it if necessary. Better yet, two minutes before the explosion, Vadar was shown to have suffocated a fire with the force. Why couldn't he just do that again?
Also Leia being captured by the Empire in the tunnel system was terrible. She had a 10 minutes head start down a presumably one way system, yet the person chasing her managed to make it there before her, but without ever running into her before that in the tunnels? If there were other routes, then that actually needs to be shown to the audience.
It's shot like they grabbed some poor cunt off a film grad school parking lot and made them do the whole thing at gunpoint and without any sleep. Astonishing that they allowed it to be released in this state.
The fight between Vader and Obi Wan taking place in a barren construction yard was particularly delightful.
As was Kenobi lightly jogging away every time Vader cornered him.
Each episode allegedly had a $25m budget. Where did all that money go? It wasn't into set design, or direction, or editing.

Also, why are they flaunting Hayden's inclusion in this when the suit scenes are being done by 2 stuntmen. He's been in it for like 2 seconds.
Oh damn, that last episode was pretty bad.
When Obi Wan was asking for help to escape and that go was like no I'll never help you... loool

Yeah is it pretty bad. I’ll finish it cause there are only 2 more episodes but man it is super disappointing. Not sure there is any redeeming qualities outside of periodically hearing James Earl Ray be Vader.
I dont think Disney understand the advantages episodic content has over film. I think bar maybe Wanda vision all of them just feel like films cut up in 5/6 episodes.
Episode 5 of Obi Wan was better than the last few episodes. I enjoyed the flashback scenes and it was nice seeing Coruscant in its pomp.
But there were still some really poor moments. Leia taking 20 minutes to cut a wire right in front of her being one.
The biggest issue was the shootout between the Empire and the Rebels though. It was very awkwardly shot. Two factions blasting each other from about a foot away in a narrow corridor yet it wasn't a total massacre.

Yeah, it's pretty laughable that the running joke that Stormtroopers can't hit a barndoor keeps going.
About 40 of Vader's own troopers vs some refugees with barely any blasters and yet I don't see any of them die but the troopers are getting slaughtered lol

Still don't understand what Disney was thinking with Obi Wan. This thing was rumoured to be in the making for years. Did Ewan really eat up the entire budget?
I can't believe they went on to release something so incredibly cheap looking. Every set is flat and has 0 verticality. Editing is amateurish, music is trash, child Leia as main focal point in the story makes no sense (considering how well she known him she should have been more devastated than Luke when he died - when in fact she actually doesn't even recognize him), and I still can't get over those Leia chase scenes.
I know people are yearning for "show us badass Vader" , "show us Luke in his prime" but if you actually want to do it you should do it with a budget to back it up. Fan flicks are otherwise going to do it better.

I don't think is budget-related. They (Kennedy) picked a very bard director for the show, that's most of it. But are you surprised? Everything Catherine touched in the SW universe turns to mediocre shit.

episode 5 was ok which means it may have been the best episode but really nothing is great or even good except maybe watching vader not even break a sweat in a fight.
It's Star Wars m8. It's like watching Dragon Ball, you don't really care about the quality anymore. It's entertaining and you're too immersed and in love with the universe to stop watching
Final episode of Kenobi was easily the best of the series. Some good action scenes, with competent editing for the first time all series.
But the show is seriously let down by terrible writing. Again, Reva and Vader are utterly incompetent antagonists. Can't paper over the excuses about the Dark Side clouding their judgement. They've made dumb decisions time and again.

I've not seen the final ep. yet, but so far OWK has done about as much as The Rise of Skywalker to destroy any love I had left for Star War.
Nah man. Rise was on the level of Bruce Willis geezer teasers. An unforgivable lazyass cash grab and incoherent mess of a movie that was written on a piece of toilet paper and made out of spite of what was done in a middling predecessor movie.
Obi Wan is just poor made fan fic but not franchise damaging.

last episode was probably the best but out of all the dumb moments in the series obi wan just walking away again instead of finishing the job might have been the dumbest. even dumber because a decent writer would have though to havethe sense luke was in danger during the fight to at least give a motivation to leave a mass murderer alive
Finished the first batch of Ms Marvel episodes. It's actually pretty good. The use of CGI illustrations on screen to make it look like a teenaged girls journal was a nice touch. Properly grounded Kamala is being just a normal kid despite the super powers.
I also enjoyed the depiction of Kamala struggling against the expectations of her immigrant family while she's just trying to be a regular teenager. It's a common TV subplot but they're pretty light on the whole thing.
I see the 'anti-woke' mob have review bombed the show because they're pricks. But really it's still just a coming if age superhero story with a few extra bells and whistles.

I mean I don't love it but the difference in overall production quality between it and OWK is fucking staggering.
By Laboured Go To PostI mean I don't love it but the difference in overall production quality between it and OWK is fucking staggering.Miss Marvel is shot and edited far more competently than Kenobi. No issue following what's supposed to be happening on the screen. And no awful cuts that leave out vital on screen informatiom. Also enjoyed the wedding brawl far more than anything in OWK.
I don't know what the budget is for Ms Marvel, but I'm gonna guess that it's comparable to OWK. I think the team on the Marvel show had a clear idea in pre-production about what they were aiming for and used the budget accordingly. Teenage girl protagonist so let's keep things colourful. Immigrant family so talk about social integration and how you balance the cultural values of parents vs kids. Throw in a song and dance number at a wedding too. It all makes sense.
But I still don't know what they were aiming for on OWK. Nor do I know what they did with all their budget. Everything seemed so cheap.
OWK was directed by an stablished shitty director without any relevant thing in her whole career.
Ms Marvel is being directed and supervised by a talented up-coming duo of young directors

Ms Marvel first episode was decent, will watch some more.
OWK had a 25mil budget per episode, I don't think Ms Marvel has anything close that.

By Not Go To PostWell, Ms. Marvel got bad
No wonder they only showed the first two episodes to critics
I was thinking :lol
I said this after watching an ep and a half in the TV thread
Ms Marvel easily the best of the Marvel shows and probably the best thing they’ve done since Endgame, maybe BP (haven’t seen NWH yet)
but now outside of Vellani’s performance it’s a 4/10 again. scust
I though ep 1 was very good, but forgot to watch the rest tbh lol
Will not be surprised if the rest couldn't keep up the quality from that first episode.

Don't about the rest of the regions outside the US (I expect it is the same for most of them) but Under The Banner Of Banner Of Heaven, a crime drama starring Andrew Garfield that's apparently good, has been added today to Disney +.
I'm very interested in it, Garfield is a very underrated actor, he is one of the reasons why I like The Amazing Spider-Man movies and he was so brilliant on tick...tick...Boom!, if the weather isn't good enough to go to the beach tomorrow (last vacation day until November) I'm rewatching tick...tick...Boom!.

Yeahb it was fun, but I have a feeling that without the Tatiana / Ruffalo dynamic the show won't be nearly as strong here on out. Also expecting the CG to get worse here on out too.
Apart from the poor She Hulk CGI, I really enjoyed that season. I thought the ending was pretty funny.
Didn’t realise a new season of the Pedro Pascal Cinematic Universe was back
Don’t think I’ve heard a single person mention it at all, looks like Disney have lost their way with both the shows and movies
