CLUTCH CITY IS BACK.
I went with pretty much pure chalk, but outside of the Bucks I just can't find upset possibilities in these brackets. Blazers-Grizzlies I could obviously see going either way, but I don't think either team winning would be an upset :(
The Semis in particular I would be pretty surprised at turning out any other way.

Why do you think the Bucks can beat Chicago? Their team has been white hot trash since the MKG trade.
I think Dallas is the only potential upset team, only cuz of who they get in the 1st round. But I still think Houston wins it. I feel like this will be a super boring 1st round outside of Memphis-Portland.

haha my bad. MCW.
By IWMTB19 Go To Post The Bucks suck, but Giannis could explode and the Bulls might not have any extra gears which I think could lead to an upset... MCW will have to pretend to be good at basketball for a bit though and that will obviously be hard for him.
Bulls might not have an extra gear, but I don't think they'll need it. Can't wait for the semis. I'll skip most of the East games this year.

By HasphatsAnts Go To Post I think Rox Mavs go 7. Carlisle vs. McHale is the coaching equivalent of Vegeta vs. 19.
The Mavs have a negative point differential with Rondo on the court... They're just not good, I don't think coaching can make up for the huge disparity in ability.

Yeah, they've been 500 for months. Maybe it goes five, but Houston won't have much trouble.

It doesn't.
It's not like talent or mistmatches matter more.

After Carlisle voodoo'd his way to 7 games against the Spurs with Sam Dalembert and DeJuan Blair, I'm just gonna go ahead and assume it's going to a fairly competitive series.

Please.
I can't believe we actually made the playoffs. Should be 4 painful games, as Atlanta beats into us their frustration at losing out on a lottery pick. This has been a rough week, with the Bulls loss and Pierce (my favorite Boston athlete) just taking everyone on the team behind the woodshed. It's no wonder Plumlee has regressed with KG gone, no one else gives a shit.
Boston's gotta be feeling pretty good, a nice warm up series for their young guys against the most hated team in the conference, and three years of cushy first rounders to add to their core.
Anyways, predictions:
ATL 4, BK 0
CLE 4, BOS 2
CHI 4, MIL 2
TOR 4, WAS 1
ATL 4, TOR 2
CLE 4, CHI 1
Against my better judgment,
CLE 4, ATL 3
GS 4, NO 1
HOU 4, DAL 1
SAS 4, LAC 3
POR 4, MEM 2
GS 4, POR 2
HOU 4, SAS 3
GS 4, HOU 2
GS 4, CLE 2
Klay Thompson Finals MVP
Steph regular season MVP
Lebron's making the finals. it's going to be legit amazing to think he will have made 5 finals in a row. Nuts.
And end up 2 for 6 all time when July rolls around
Clips over Spurs in 7. Kawhi can be absolutely incredible, and he needs to be for them to win (unless Parker is consistently amazing, and I don't see that this year), but he seems to lose confidence at times so I never trust his offense. On the other hand, he usually shows up big for big moments (outside of free throws, poor kid) so who knows.
Dubs over Pels in 6. The Brow is gonna carry that team to at least two wins.
Rockets over Mavs in 5.
Grizz over Portland in 5.
Cavs over Hawks in 7.
The rest of the East: who gives a fuck
Whoever comes out West is going to demolish the Cavs, if they even make it to the finals.
The Rockets love is much apperciated. Even if we do lose to Dallas, the respect I have for you guys is just amazing right now.
Vahagn salt levels toward Howards is astounding.
By chandlerparsons Go To Post Not enough of you are saying that Houston will lose in the first round. Or is it cos I blocked all the ones who would? If the Mavs could take the Spurs to 7 last season, don't see why it couldn't be close. Even without Motiejunas (Dorsey minutes.. *shudder*) and Beverley, I'm still hoping we can make it out of the first round.
lol
I'm be wishful and say Raps vs Cavs in eastern finals.
I'm gonna then be very wishful & say Spurs vs Raps in the finals.
wishful thinking, of course.

I'm just picking who I think will win. If everything was who I wanted, my bracket would look different.
Word to the wise, I'm good at picking playoff outcomes and winning AVi bets on it. I've only really missed on a couple of my contrarion picks over especially the last 4 or 5 years.
my 'prediction' is pretty vanilla, same as IWMTB19. probably the most predictable post season in a while.
i still think some people fail to see how much Rondo sucks.
Maybe Houston is too dumb to know that i dont know...

He's leaving in the offseason anyway. I have faith that if he's that much of a liability, Carlisle will bench him rather than lose.
This is the same guy who put JJ Barea on Lebron in the finals, he's definitely willing to listen to stats when playoff lineups are concerned

This is why no one should put your opinion, especially on the Houston/Dallas series seriously.

Just mentally prepare yourself for the avi change. You're so optimistic it's going to come down on you like a crushing and monumental blow.

Look at where you are. I love it. We were doubted to make the playoffs, keep HCA, take the second seed and where did we end up? All this first round negativity will make it that much better when we finally make it over the hump. Hopefully.

Dude, second seed and 6th seed is like one game. All this nonsense about the second seed in the west is only relevant in the discussion regarding HCA. It's not some huge accomplishment. I know you think it is, and we should all praise the Lord Harden. But, no, its not.
And when you get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round. You'll make a bunch of excuses and convince yourself everyone's just a hater.

What is your definition of "making it over the hump"?
Also, who doubted the Rockets would make the playoffs this season, serious question? I don't remember that as a narrative before the season.

For me, it's just about getting out of the first round. The first round is the furthest we've gotten in the Harden era. If Terrence Jones had another year of development under his belt, Dwight hadn't just come back ~two weeks ago, and Motiejunas and Beverley weren't out for the rest of the season, it'd be a different story, maybe.
Last year was a disappointment because we lost to a team that didn't put up much of a fight in the second round. It'd be less embarrassing this time around if we, say, lost to the Spurs (provided they'd be at least competitive against the Dubs in the WCF). We underdelivered last year and have addressed some of the defensive deficiencies from last season. If that held up in this year's postseason and led to one series win, that'd be in line with expectations, I think.
And check the predictions thread. There's at least a handful who don't even have us in the 8. Choice quote (though to Mamba's credit, we didn't finish 3rd. Broken clock is right twice a day and all that):
Mamba NOV. 06, 2014 07:57 AM
Rockets 3rd seed, so much LOL
Now that the Thunder might be out of the playoffs..
Yeah, thunder might be out but Rockets won't be 3rd. I know they're 5-0 but they've probably played 4 of the 7 or 8 worst teams in the NBA so far. Philly started what, 3-1 last season? Obvious they aren't Philly, but let's not get excited about a hot start. It happens a lot.
Early season stats are always hilarious to look back on. Last year, the Spurs offense was like bottom 7 after 5 or so games. They couldn't do shit. Things even out over the course of an entire season.

i did and so did lots of others. everyone thought that the team got weaker after they got rid of Lin and Parsons for nothing (and they still might be). Missing the playoffs in the brutal west on paper was very possible. Kudos for them to not only make it but getting the 2 seed. i admit that i was wrong and eat my crow.
