Exactly what it says on the tin. A place for all people under the umbrella to chat. I hope I've put this in the right place!
I'll keep things simple and introduce myself:
Gender: Cis male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Sports Team: Chelsea FC
Favourite video game: Super Mario Galaxy
Favourite movie: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
I'm aware that this might not be the most active thread, but I hope it will have a place. The above template - cribbed from elsewhere, not gonna lie - isn't mandatory. Nor is it mandatory to solely discuss LGBT related stuff - I just wanted to make a thread where we could all just hang out and chat without any fear.
I look forward to seeing the responses.

Are you actually from Crawley? If so I dunno if to be amused or sympathetic.

As we both know, it can be both.
I find myself on the Ent side of the spectrum.
There's just something about trees that's fuckable. Probably because ir's naturally ribbed.

I'll probably get Witcher 3 on Switch. I know it'll be heavily nerfed but I'm hoping to travel next year, and lugging the PS4 around is not an option.
It's disappointing to see the shitshow currently engulfing Era with regards to the moderation team.
I know the easy response would be "lol Resetera", but a lot of people are rightfully upset at the transphobia and acephobia on display - and the attempts by the mods to make it go away are not helping.
I know this forum isn't geared towards this sort of discussion - this is the first post in nearly two months for this topic - and hell, maybe there's only a couple of us on the forum who fall under the umbrella
But that's okay, this isn't a critique of SLAENT. I just hope the moderation team exercise more transparency here. Being bi is who I am, so this is place being as accommodating as possible would be much appreciated.
Not that I've had any issues, mind. Just felt it was pertinent.

what did happen over there? i only see like 4 threads and people saying mods fucked up but there's too many pages to find out what exactly happened.
I think we are pretty good over here... If we are ignorant about certain topics let us know so the community can learn.
Is this it?
Reading through, not much to say yet.
Edit: Well I really don't have the time to go through it all, but I rate my shock at zero. I think it's important to realize that a movement like the LGBTQ+ will face the same challenges any other rights movement also faced, the rot within. Being gay doesn't clear anyone from being bigoted, racist, or a straight up fuckhead. Hell I have gay friends who are openly racist and trans-phobic when in private.
I think Slaent is a pretty safe place, but I wouldn't be the one to know. I think it's also a matter of scale, and the bigger a community gets the more chaotic and filled with terrible gatekeeping it becomes.
A timeline for those new:
Months of inaction while trans threads remain the most hostile and least pleasant place for trans people on Era.
This is called out several times but is only dealt with in isolated single cases, like a post being edited out
Finally hits breaking point, culminating in an ace member of the forum making a post calling it out
Moderators offer support but refuse to stick the thread or address/acknowledge the issue
A staff post is made a week later that’s generic, doesn’t acknowledge the inaction and is 50% about the staff themselves.
That 50% is lamenting how the staff has been made to feel as a result of people expressing at the inaction
Ketkat and other trans members push back, saying the attitude is the very issue we’re trying to highlight
Ketkat mentions in a minor part of the post that a staff member that is known to be acephobic
Ketkat is banned within minutes
Mods suddenly start replying, with more passion than had been shown to the thread in the week prior
It’s implied that Ketkat gained illicit access and abused her girlfriend
Royalan then details in paragraphs the mod stance on the issue and comes to lock the thread
The thread that was made to highlight trans issues is locked by Royalan
The Trans Awareness Week becomes the home to share frustrations.
Ketkat’s ban reason changes three times over this period.
Eventually a staff post is made, much in the same vein as the past one
It suggests that we should get back to talking about trans awareness
It details that Ketkat is permanently banned
Royalan once again comes in to detail why this is the way it is, and asks to be held accountable
It is then uncovered that Royalan has posted acephobic comments in the recent past
Robin (Ketkat’s girlfriend) mentions that Royalan isn’t even the person being referred to initially.
Reading through, not much to say yet.

The mods here don't take bigotry lightly

Don't be a stranger. Slaent is a nice little community where the biggest shit-talk is in the gaming thread and people take that as seriously as Smokey's FPS skills. The forum exists because of exiled communities from GAF back in the day, NBA, Football etc. I'm not on staff but i think it's reliable of me to say that we're always going to be accepting of anyone and any community here.
The only awful thing allowed here is PSY food cooking post
Hate crimes against all humanity if you ask me

I should stress that I haven't had any problems here as of yet. Even when lurking, nothing has really sprung to mind.
This place is fine - I think I'm just disappointed to see the biggest GAF offshoot have these issues. I didn't sign up, but I felt the initial mindset behind Era was a good one.
Perhaps this was always inevitable though. Things have been going downhill since the World Cup 2018 threads on there.

ResetEra decided for some reason to give mod powers to mediocre individuals simply because they were prominent users who posted a lot on NeoGAF. This kind of thing was bound to happen.
They've basically let modding devolve into who can spam the report button the most.
Anyway, re those issues listed above, I find it quite hard to follow what is being described. It most probably isn't, but the poster makes the 'issues' also seem like extremely small scale inter-personal drama rather than evidence of wide spread systemic phobia or abuse. I'm probably part of the problem.

In situations like this, my personal opinion has always been that you gotta earn the trust of your fellow mods and shouldn't give it out. Healthy dose of skeptisim and all. And clearly that is being tested elsewhere.
Welcome R436, and great thread. I don’t think you’ll have those sort of problems here, and if you do, don’t be afraid to let us on the mod staff know. For the most part this is a pretty tight community.
The most important question is....are you for or against Phil Spencer?

Most "angry" you'll see here is people getting heated about "but is mediocre film art" and liberal angst in poli.
By Laboured Go To PostThey've basically let modding devolve into who can spam the report button the most.definitely. Not to say there's a problem, but there's some in Era that doesn't realise that passive aggressive posts, however right they are tend to cause arguments AND an outbreak of passive aggressive arguments, and then get mad because they are right.

Hence, that thread.
Not to mention some of the more notable administrators/mods have already left so you're left with.. people I haven't really been a fan of since GAF.
The best thing slaent has going for it is the mods and admin actually being regular posters but you don't even know they're staff. Not as an insult but there isn't special demarcations and they're shit talking with the rest of us in a given sport or film or whatever thread and we can veer off topic a bit or tease without a ban. They really only bear claws when there is a spammer or someone really just goes way overboard. But it's also a perk of it's size and not being so much gamer coalesced as communities ousted for being too chummy.
Yeah it looks like era has gone the way of gaf with mods who have no pressure to explain to the community why people have been banned/warned or threads locked
That's just not conducive to an enjoyable forum imo. Especially in community threads where everyone has a bit of a meltdown when somebody is banned for a post in a different thread.

I started reading the reset era thread and my immediate thought was I hope people can come and find a safe place here.

Contrapoints, Natalie Wynn is a prominent trans woman on leftist youtube who got in a spot of bother regarding tweets made some time ago and her decision to include a famous trans person that some in the community consider to be problematic in her previous video.
It's quite lengthy and a good watch.
My intention is not to turn this thread into one for social media drama.
To my LGBTQ friends here on SLAENT, my hope is that we can from them and gain some perspective on what kind of discourse we should be having around matters like Non-Binary identity without being seen to have ill-intent or malicious.
If there are Non-Binary folk on SLAENT, it would be great to get their perspective on this and hopefully, we can have a back and forth.

I know very little about anything with regards to non-binary. I would like to make it clear that, despite that ignorance, that anyone who identifies as non-binary are welcome here and anywhere else on SLAENT.
One of the issues with the thread title is that I sometimes fear if it comes across as a tad exclusionary or overly narrow. This is not the intention of course, but if anyone feels that it gives off that vibe, I would like to know.
