By inky Go To Post3-1 Martins. EZAway at Boavista is always a challenging trip and they are one of the only two teams in the league without a defeat.
The other is Famalicão who are surprisingly leading the table on their return to the top flight of Portuguese football.
On paper it's a nice story to see a newly promoted team having such a great start but then you see their squad and it's clear they are just another Mendes team as they have mostly loaned players from teams like Benfica, Wolves, Atlético Madrid and Valencia, so fuck them.
By Xpike Go To Postour squad is pretty decent, that's what makes the coaching so bafflingThere are some really good players in it, for sure. I think Guen, Laca, Auba and obviously Ozil have enough raw quality. But for those four you’ve also got Xhaka, Sokratis, Luiz, and some fairly mediocre foetuses.
The young players are good - Willock, for example, has been fairly solid - but Arsenal want and need to be winning relentlessly. They aren’t quite ready for that.
I thought the new box rule was going to make it easier for teams to play it out from the back

By Hitch Go To PostI thought the new box rule was going to make it easier for teams to play it out from the backArsenal will 100% play out from the back and the opponent can defend accordingly. High pressure all the way to the box. This should leave space further up the pitch to be exploited by playing it long but Arsenal don't do that. The play is static, not adaptive. Arsenal are very easy to play against because they are incredibly predictable. Maybe it could work with players who are more technically skilled and better passers but with this defense that's not the case.

Very happy with the result yesterday. It is not easy to win at Wolves. To do it while scoring five goals is great.
Only caught the MOTD highlights, but Tammy's hat trick was great. Each goal displayed different attributes executed well, which is encouraging. His third goal especially was a treat. Happy for the lad as well, he's kicked on quite well since the Super Cup disappointment. Hopefully he can sustain it.
A lot of the focus was on the goals all coming from young English academy players - both yesterday and through the season thus far. It's a lovely feeling. The idea of Tomori - Mount - Abraham comprising a future Chelsea spine is a very attractive one. There's a lot of work to do before that is a reality, but I think that might be an ideal to strive for.
Defensive issues remain, though I think it was telling that we conceded after Rudi was subbed off. Him and AC with Kante ahead should shore things up. Hopefully they can get an extended run of games together. Kepa needs to sort his wrists out, it's such an odd issue for a keeper to have - though I think he was a tad unlucky with the own goal.
Lamps changing the formation to try and keep things tighter at the back was appreciated. Tactical flexibility is a godsend after the dogmatic approach from Sarri last season. I think we've deployed three formations thus far, and there's been decent stuff shown with all of them. Obviously we will need to settle on a standard set up, but I'm glad to see it all the same.
All in all, this is a a feel good win. With James and Hudson Odoi on the way back, hopefully we can keep the good feeling going. A win against Valencia and a draw to Liverpool would be a great return next week, in my eyes.

By inky Go To PostTouchdown!Packers haven’t scored a single point since you posted this.
Vikings got nothing
This was one of the worst 45 minutes of football I seen.
We only had 1 clear goal opportunity from a great pass from Bruno Fernandes and a decent attempt from Bolasie.
Edit: Jesé coming on at half time, Borja off and Acuña dropping to LB.

Packers OL turned to mush and have all the wrong assignments to stop the 3 man rush
Some questionable calls in 3rd down situations by the Packs (primarily unsuccessful sweeps)
Honestly Packers are lucky Cousins has David Luiz levels of decision making because Cook turned into a fucking devil after that 70yd run
Packers about to Arsenal this m8
Had to sleep and miss the match halfway through since my head was spinning.

Bolasie elected man of the match. September isn't over and we already said goodbye to any chance of fighting for the title. Brilliant season, PSV is going to wreck us apart.
