Martin Tyler... "Ryan Giggs, as legend has it, almost joined Manchester City." He was only a City youth player. Fuckin tool.
We almost signed Ruud & Henry:
"We tried to buy Van Nistelrooy four years ago.
"I watched him as a 20-year-old and recommended him to the club. Unfortunately we could not clinch the deal and now he has joined Manchester United for #24 million.
"I spotted Henry as a 20-year-old playing for a French second division club and I tracked him. Gordon Strachan went over to watch him, but we could not do the deal and he is now at Arsenal.
"Bear in mind we were watching all these players when they were youngsters and had not attracted the attention of the top clubs."

By Laboured Go To PostScholes has just been putting out filth and he's still pretty fit too.My penis grew an inch from that.
Not sure about Scholes though.
Ofc Scholes was a great footballer, and I won't argue with the United lads, but for me he will always be remembered for this. It was simpler times when that first tackle barely warranted a yellow (imo)
By Frustrated_me Go To PostTruly the best of our time, if not of all time.
In 4 different leagues too, what a monster.
Scholes was a brilliant footballer, but Auclair is right when he says we look back at him with more reverence than is due. He was never the most important player in United's midfield. That was Keane. I'd argue that Beckham was of greater importance as well.

We look at him now with reverence because he is a bridge to the present in football. He exists in both “the old” English football way with the era of hard lads FC where English football was all about shitehousery and what have you, while simultaneously representing “new” English football that was influenced by Wenger, Guardiola, etc which is what we see these days.
In his time he was unique and overlooked for those reasons and deserves credit for that, but you’re right that he wasn’t really that important to United as a whole and came across to me as more of a luxury player.

He could trap the ball immediately and spin away from an opposition player so easily. His passing was also incredible. But it took him a long time to be comfortable at the deeper lying role. He was an advanced, goal scoring midfielder for most of his 20's.

There's definitely a nostalgia when people look back at his international career and what could have been. In terms of pure talent that early to mid 00's England side was incredible. Much better than the side now. The Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard axis could never have happened imo. They were all attack minded players who wanted to score or contribute to goals. Scholes didn't drop deeper for a few more years. It wouldn't have worked.
By Frustrated_me Go To PostDoubt we will ever see many more players with his work ethic.

When La Masia uses him as an example and the best midfielders consider him the best midfielder of his generation....

Well, no more CL games for me the rest of the season. Can't even get a ticket for the group stages. Let alone if we mange to go trough again. Fucking hate the fact that buying tickets is a God damn disgrace in the digital age. Just let me cue up in real life and I'll be there at 6am.

Fucking hate the fact that buying tickets is a God damn disgrace in the digital age. Just let me cue up in real life and I'll be there at 6am.I found plenty of tickets on the black market, ranging from 100 euros to 470. For a CL game though, I imagine the domestic ones are cheaper.
Well yeah that's the ridiculous thing about it. In order to buy tickets today you have to be a member of the Ajax supporters club. So everyone of those fuckers selling tickets over there is supposedly a 'fan'. Thanks to them I don't have tickets now. After the season ticket holders I always have second choice because I'm a member. But in reality it's still impossible to get tickets. Well unless you go on your own, but we needed 4 tickets for Lille and 5 tickets for Chelsea. And a decent ticket for the Chelsea game would have set us back about 55 euros and roughly 45 euros for the Lille game. I'm just not gonna pay 100+ euros. Nor do I have that kind of money. The recent uprise in Europe really made it even harder for longtime fans to buy a ticket. Kind of wish the length of your membership would have been taken into account as well. My dad made me a member at the age of 7. My dad is even among the very first couple of members when the supporters club got started back in the early nineties.
By Laboured Go To PostSounds like our interest in James Maddison will be ramping up.Maybe he'll finally get some England minutes then
I think it doesn't help that it only costs 27,50 a year to get the same rights as I have. The only step up is a seasonticket which is of course way more expensive and not something I can do right now. Moneywise and I also work weekends during a lot of Ajax games. I wouldn't even mind if they up that fee so casuals riding our European high would be discouraged to sign up in the first place.
In short, I'm very frustrated right now. Last season was a mission impossible as well to get tickets. After the qualifiers my European season is usually done.

Any reason ESPN is counting less goals than Ronaldo has at senior level?

if you can't beat them....buy the one who knocked you out, if you will.
Do the after market tickets always sell out or can you get them for cheap like an hour or two before the match starts?
That's how I got into a few CL matches when I was still going.

did he immediately jump into the senior side?
By Lupercal Go To PostDo the after market tickets always sell out or can you get them for cheap like an hour or two before the match starts? You could normally find tickets outside anyway. Even for the CL final there were still tickets an hour or so before it started. Lots of black market tickets go unsold especially in Italy. I mean, we're almost always officially sold out, but in reality, the stadium is not really full aside from the curva.

By LFMartins86 Go To PostModric is injured and could be out for a couple of weeks. What a start of a season for Real. This same shit happened last season, killed us early on. That and incredibly bad luck, by November we gave up.
He's going to miss PSG, Sevilla, Atletico and most likely the Clasico.
Fucking hell, worst part is Modric actually looked good this season with the rest he got over summer.
Isco is still injured, James is still recovering from injuries, the only other midfielder is Fede.
Fucking hell, I'm so tired of this shit. Why can't we ever start a proper league campaign?

We finally replaced the fitness staff and I think now each player has their own schedule and personnel.
Completely missed that my boy Gonzalo Plata scored his first international goal for the senior squad of Ecuador this week.
I have high hopes for him, hopefully he will have a lot of playing time this season.
