I like the Jerian Grant move, that's about it.
Sign West and whoever else to huge 1 year deals so you don't give up a great pick next season and then tank hard again the next season and hope the lottery balls fall in your favor.

Tough for NY you mean, Monroe isn't a great (and often times not a good) defensive presence, West is a wise vet but at 35, his help D isn't what it used to be.
Jose/Grant/Galloway
FreeAgent
Melo/ Early
West/Porzingis
Monroe
That squads isn't stopping anyone consistently, with that lineup NY is gonna have enter a shootout every game.

I don't see Calderon starting or even staying, imo. Galloway/Grant at 1. Calderon will get traded. Tobias Harris wants to be a Knick too, and he should be within reach.
Orlando says they're going to try and keep him, as a restricted free agent, the only way you get Tobias is by overpaying ~15mil a year plus looks like, that's already half of what NY has to spend this offseason.
Tobias, Monroe and West doesn't seem likely or even desirable really.

LOL Melo is mad.
I wonder if it's all part of the plan to drive him out of NY and make him look bad, as opposed to making Phil look bad?

I actually legitimately wondered if Phil would've taken Porzingis even if the Knicks landed at #2. Could you even imagine?

With Llull out of the picture, I'm sorta sad we didn't take Grant. Different to Dekker, obviously, but will be curious to see how he goes.
By SamuraiX- Go To Postit was completely harmless tho ;_;How can you say that when you've witnessed what happened? I'm pretty sure thekad trolling Lakers fans is what caused Llull to not come over. I'm keeping my mouth shut until everything is over.
Robin Lopez + Arron Afflalo + Porzingis + Grant
Yeah, I'm pretty damn content with that.
And we still have money left over to sign someone else. I wouldn't mind bringing David Lee in, he still has some good miles left on him. GS under utilized him tremendously and almost lost it all in the playoffs because of it. He's still highly capable, imo.

On what contract length? Don't just lose flexibility for the foreseeable future because you can.
I don't know how you can be happy, we're in a situation in which all the money in the world + Melo does not bring in Aldridge / Love, etc. We don't even get the second tier players like Monroe and Deandre! We're less attractive than MILWAUKEE. MILWAUKEE!! In 1996 or 1999, the Knicks could attract players, now we're going for leftovers. I am disgusted. This team is barely first round fodder.
We replaced Chandler and Shumpert with Lopez and Afflalo. Gave away a shitton more. It is an obvious downgrade.
What you don't understand is that since the issue is basically lingering since 2001, the Knicks have already effectively created a culture that will be hard to get over. It fucking stinks. And the stench will be no way to bring in players for a championship.
Only hope is that Porzingis is the second coming. Fuck the rest and all those fucking players who can't play a lick of collective defense.

Chandler and Shumpert got bigger contracts than Rolo and Afflalo.
It also allowed you to tank and get a potential all star caliber draft pick. 1996 was 20 years ago and you were an elite team. Expecting superstars to fall into your lap is just silly. I made that mistake too. With NY and LA. It was silly and not reasonable.
96 and 99?

They got bigger contracts for a reason. The difference in skill is bigger than the difference in contracts too.
But I'm not denying the need to shuffle. Problem is how fucking undervalued the Knicks' part was in every move!
The big picture is the Knicks will be a low lottery / first round team. This is not the way to go. Fuck signing adequate players.

LJ was a sign-and-trade. They signed AH20 and Childs.
Sprewell kicked ass, no matter the reputation.
The deals overall were better. Oakley was dealt for the best shotblocker in the league too. Just smarter choices. And the team did achieve some. Probably the second best Eastern team in 1997 and the Finals later...
The Knicks lost their culture. That's my main point. It used to be a fighters' team. Last two years, it has been a nightclubbers' team. That puts you in a position to do worse recruiting than a shitty town with little to no tradition left such as Milwaukee.
And these stupid Knicks fans booed their only good news in Porzingis because they're xenophobic and shortsighted as fuck.
Shump got overpaid and sucked in the finals when it counted the most. Chandler is older and had gave up on the knicks due to personal reasons. If the knicks rebound from 17 wins into first round fodder (even in the east) its a major improvement. Right now the knicks seem to be building a core of some sort and then who knows if the roster see's some success. Maybe next year they can plug more holes or attract a star
Robin Lopez is a massive upgrade over Chandler and his scrawny ass chicken leg, rebound batting, clumsy handling ass. Fuck Chandler.
Shumpert is a solid defender, but can be downright terrible offensively. He has absolutely no rhythm or consistency with the ball in his hands. Sorry, but I think the Knicks did a pretty decent job this off-season all things considered and just how downright awful last year was.
I also don't know anybody who would rather have glass-made Kevin Love over Robin Lopez. A western conference center in the east is going to feast.

Knicks went from garbage fire to below average, you really couldn't have expected more and you really shouldn't hate on it.

I remember hearing similar bullshit when Isiah Thomas signed Jeffries for 30M/5Y in 2006 (and a million other times). I'm still not used to it.
I'll root for the team but I'm not delusional. When players like Matthews, Aldridge and West won't even interview with you and clown you publicly, things are bad.
Derrick Williams signed for 10 millions over 2 years (player option for second year).
What we're looking like right now:
Jose Calderon / Langston Galloway / Jerian Grant
Aaron Afflalo / Alexey Shved (RFA) / ?
Carmelo Anthony / Derrick Wililams / Cleanthony Early
? / Kristaps Porzingis / Travis Wear (RFA)
Robin Lopez / ? / ?
I'm guessing they're going to keep Shved, Wear and re-sign Jason Smith.
Not much more money left after that. They'd be missing three players for the roster to be full still. Couple small exceptions lying around, probably used on the aforementioned players. That team is going to be incredibly small.

Knicks need a PF and another swingman to complement Melo and Afflalo. Amundson or Cole can play backup center for 15 minutes a game. You got the best center you could get without spending 80 million and I for one would have loved him on the Lakers.
You'll be able to max out a young really good offensive PF next season assuming Porzingis needs a few years to develop.
Afflalo and Rolo should upgrade your defense instantly as well.
NY didn't land a superstar, but it's been one year and you haven't made any bad or long term crippling moves. That's easily the best year of management in the last two decades

I think what we'll see lineup wise is
Jose Calderon / Langston Galloway / Jerian Grant
Aaron Afflalo / Alexey Shved (RFA) / Thanasis
Carmelo Anthony / Derrick Williams / Cleanthony Early
Kristaps Porzingis / Travis Wear / Louis Lyberie (or Lance Thomas)
Robin Lopez / Amundson / Aldrich
For a team trying to get out of the lottery to spoil a pick for the Nuggets/Raptors and is pretty likely to go right back to tanking in 2016 it could be worse. The cap room exception and if the cap is confirmed to go up will give the knicks 2.8 and 4.5 to spend on 2 more players. Assuming Shved is one that still leaves decent money to go after a PF.

By AlphaSnacks Go To PostMelo is starting at the 4 next season, not 3.
Porzingis is too skinny to play the 5 and too tall to play the 3. Which means, unless you're going to give your lottery pick future franchise player only 10 min a game - he's going to be handling 20-30 minutes of the 4 spot and Melo will be at the 3
I wouldn't be surprised if Zingis only plays 10-15 minutes a game. He is raw as fuck, Fish isn't gonna want to play him and FO probably doesn't want him getting embarrassed all year. Melo at PF also will push Zingis' minutes down.
He's gonna have to get most of his reps up in practice.

By D'Moris Russell Go To PostHe is raw as fuck
Of course he's skinny, but what are you basing that on?
He played in a much better league than college basketball, the best in Europe.
11, 4.5 and 1 blk in 21 minutes in such a context means he's not that raw.

At the 4? There is no way that kid is physically ready to get that much time. Kris would have troble guarding/boxing out most of the front court players in the league now. He would get destoyed and possibly injured. 20 minutes is the max I would play him in any game this season. Melo should start at the 4 and get most of his minutes there. I agree that we should definitely try to have a roster that can 'go big' if needed though. Kris will get enough minutes at the 4 and 3.
Err just so you guys know, Porz will be lucky to play 20 minutes before 2016.
He's not supposed to contribute this year, think of Gallinari's situation his rookie year but worse. That's why signing a PF like West was key.

It's not just a size thing (but of course there's that, he was man handled a lot for rebounding and post position in europe) he looks lost a lot on the court. He's is gonna need a lot of development before you trust him playing major minutes. The biggest knock on him is that he was 2-3 years away, he has a nice shooting form and mobility for his size, but his defense is terrible due to lack of know how and size.
NY will probably use him as a stretch 4 for the majority of the time he's on the floor, his J is gonna have to be on and fast or he just doesn't have a role at this point in his career.

Bargnani was a fine rookie, one of the best 6th men that year. I think Porzingis could have a similar year.
The Italian league has not been quite as good as the Spanish league since the 1990s btw.
The Knicks just got Kyle O'Quinn for a potential 2019 2nd rounders swap. I like it.
The team is still missing two or three interior players (if they don't keep Wear), and a SG or two (if they don't keep Shved, which they should). I'm hoping they won't be Ledo, Bargnani and Amundson...
I think all they have now is that 2.8 cap room exception. I agree I think the roster needs another SG.

Basically O'Quinn is a perfect Triangle guy who if he improves shot selection and stops fouling the world will turn into a very productive 4/5 with a bargain contract.

Really like the O'Quinn signing. We still have the 2.8 mil room exception too (Butler? or Shved?).
Posted this in the real thread but I guess I'll put it here too. This extra thread thing is still strange to me but whatev.
Porzingis will play a lot during pre-season, you can bank on that. He'll get 25 mins, easily just so they can evaluate where he stands. And I'd assume he will get some minutes when (if) the Knicks put together huge leads. It really just depends how he handles himself during pre-season and 5-on-5 practices.
