Ugh, hell no. BOO BUCKY. I HATE BUCKY. Dude gives the same dead eyed reading to every single line. Go watch him at the end of the movie when he says goodbye to Cap, his fuckin' metal arm shows more emotion than him. "(Dead-eyed) I'm gonna miss you Cap." "It'll be okay Bucky." OH WILL IT BE OKAY? CAUSE DAMN HE SOUNDED WORRIED THERE. And I don't want to hear that "but he was brainwashed for blah blah blah years!" crap. A complete void of charisma and screen presence is still boring no matter how many times you slice it. BOOOO BUCKY.
By Elchele Go To PostShould have put Winter Soldier as the new Captain America. Falcon is weakTerrible choice. Almost completely deflated my hype for Altered Carbon S2. That old subconscious racism at work, no doubt.

IW as a comic book film is great, but as a film, its a long string of set peices.
Endgame actually has a three act structure and gives 7 characters an actual arc.

oh you're talking technically! There's no denying that Endgame tried to be more than just a Marvel flick, yet that last act, as good as it was, was quite Marvel lol. A DC final fight done right
By Bold 2 in One Go To PostIW as a comic book film is great, but as a film, its a long string of set peices. No it doesn't. Iron Man, Nebula and Thor have arcs. Tacking on a stupid ending for Captain America doesn't count, and Black Widow and Hawkeye don't even have characters.

ofc IW is better than Endgame. Much more coherent as a movie and flows really well from one point / scene to the next. Endgame has an interesting first act, a fan service clip show 2nd act and a balls to the walls fan service battle as third act. And the things connecting the acts barely make any sense if you think about it.

IW is a ride in an amusement park, your jettisoned from one set peice to next at such breakneck speed, its actually impressive but characters come off as 2 dimensional, because they know they have 15 seconds to say their lines before the camera crew has to leave to go film the next cg fuckery

By n8 dogg Go To PostThen they have no valueI disagree. There’s value in mindless entertainment.
defending something by saying you aren’t supposed to think about it or engage your brain, particularly when it is pop culture’s biggest current obsession, is dangerous thinking and leads to the lowering of standards

If it was a film like Inception a film that pretends to be smart but really isn’t, then I’d agree.
For the the Marvel films though, they don’t try to be much more than a spectacle and I enjoy them for that.
Maybe people go into these movies expecting different things and seeking different things and therefore enjoy different things about it.
Maybe just maybe Endgame is highbrow for the MCU but not all that highbrow for the medium. It's not bewildering to think Infinity War is better, considering both are movies about fighting a giant purple alien with a testicle chin.

IW was refreshing because the MCU finally had a good villain for once. Who was the best villain before then? Loki? lols.
But then they turned Thanos into just another substandard villain. I get the arc but it could have used another 10mins to spend a bit more time on him because his story felt neglected after being THE centerpiece the last movie and the driving force of this one.

By Bold 2 in One Go To PostI dont watch moviesI also watch John Wick for the copious amounts of gratuitous action and violence and not to study a man undergoing grief.
*adjusts glasses*
I watch films.
Speaking of, the way they handled Hawkeye is basically John Wick-tier except more tattoos and a terrible haircut.
Like, it's not that deep.
IW is better because Thanos gets a fully realized arc whereas Endgame gives Stark and Cap half-baked ones.
Also, IW gets the Guardians and Spiderman. Endgame has... Ant Man. I like Ant Man, but c'mon

We're talking about all the repercussions of IW and what it means with the people left behind in Endgame, but they couldn't spare a 3 minute scene with Scott Lang and his daughter, when that relationship is such a huge part of both Ant-Man movies.
Instead they had him rush ASAP to the Avengers facility after their hug so he can run with some Back To The Future save-the-world theory.

Most of Marvel films dont deal with consequences all that well,
The last MCU film that does this is Civil War.
In Endgame, the characters are challenged with the consequences of their failure:
Thor becomes a depressed drunk
Natasha overworks herself to near self-destruction
Steve does what Steve always does, tries to soldier on
Banner finally finds space to make peace with the other part of himself
Clint lost everything and takes it out on the world, because, how is that fair? loses his entire family but there are still bad people who made it unsnapped?
Now Iron-Man is really interesting because he came out of this rather lucky, finally settles down but is haunted by the loss of Peter who was always like his surrogate son.
So in this we have a reflection of the coping mechanisms at play and for the firt time we see the Avengers not really avenging, but flat out desperate. So desperate they attack a defenseless Thanos in his kitchen mid-soup-making and decapitate him
This is a far more personal affair, we get real grounded characters, RDJ acting his ass off in the opening parts for one. All the scenes get time to land and deliver their beats.
I love IW, but it was moving at such a breakneck pace, every scene was fleeting, didnt even give us time to properly buy Vision and Wanda romance let alone allow us to care when he dies.
I don't know, I guess opinions and shit...
I meannnn....Endgame doesn't top some of IW's fight scenes, either. Dr. Strange turned into like 10 different Dr. Stranges and Thanos threw a moon. Cap getting the hammer was cool, but it wasn't that.
John Wick doesn’t pretend to be about government oversight or some bullshit like the last two Caps have
Never said it was deep, I'm saying characters are allowed to be characters not action figures being strung from one CGI tornado to the next.
I simply gave some examples.

I actually agree. The movie is ostensibly about how people that have superpowers and have never failed before deal with the consequences of their inability to stop the apocalypse. But I don't think it necessarily does right by all of them.
Shout out to Black Widow, who has been in one slow character assassination arc since Joss Whedon decided she wasn't a real woman since she couldn't have kids and ends up sacrificing herself since she has no blood family.

I think only Thor, Tony Stark and to a lesser degree Steve Rogers got their due. Everyone else was whatever.
Tom Holland is good. Peter doesn’t really have enough to show yet.
Marvel casting is 90% perfect, but the only character who i think has been sustained as more than a plot device is Tony.
Cap has his moments. Thor is an inconsistency saved by Hemsworth. Ruffalo was two completely different characters in IW/EG. Some of the other good ones - Spidey, Star Lord - haven’t done it enuff.
Tbf to the Russos, best Black widow and Hawkeye were in EG.
Killmonger the only villain really written well. Lots performed well (Spader, Brolin, Pearce, Blanchett all super fun) but he’s the only really good villain. Altho i’m the only person in the world who doesnt like tom hiddleston it seens
