By masud Go To PostSwindle God Griff really convinced the Lakers to protect the 21 pick instead of the one 5 FUCKING YEARS FROM NOW!There is definitely no recent evidence that trading pick swaps far down the line is a bad move.
The entire thing comes down to if Davis can actually defend.
Because he was maybe the best defensive prospect in basketball history.
But he's never tried to play defense in the NBA.
But now is the time. Now or never.
Well, the entire thing other than Lebron and Davis (and maybe Kyrie) staying healthy.
He needs to be Rudy Gobert/Draymond Green with better hands/dunking.

AD has been pretty good on D the last 2-3 years. The high number of minutes he's had to play has been a large reason why he hasn't done even better.
By IWMTB19 Go To PostBILLY KING WALKED THROUGH THAT DOOR AND TRADED FOR AD OMG
Well, that's a whole lot.
Like an extreme amount.
Those unprotected pick swaps, wow. Imagine if Lebron falls off a cliff in the next couple of years like he's looking to.
I'm sure AD will play plenty of defense having cover for LeBron, Kuzma, Terrence Ross and Kemba's defensive mistakes. Surely won't wear down on him.

This really is just like the Melo trade... If Melo's agent publicly announced that Melo would sign with the Knicks in free agency next season.
By Moris Go To PostAD will be 32 in 2025. If he gets hurt itsa rip. This is a full on admission of "we can't build a team for shit, just let the city of LA be our real GM"
By masud Go To PostThis really is just like the Melo trade… If Melo's agent publicly announced that Melo would sign with the Knicks in free agency next season.
The problem with the comparison is that LeBron has one year left at max so they needed to go all in this year.
LeBron has almost nothing left and they'll need to win this year or they never will.
also ad has won only 5 playoff games his entire career with most of those being attributed to damian lillard being completely neutralized by jrue holiday

We also traded for his Bird rights and the ability to have 3 max players instead of 2.
We can have more value on the roster by the end of next summer than we could have without the trade, unless Ingram actually does become max-worthy.
By Red Blaster Go To Postalso ad has won only 5 playoff games his entire career with most of those being attributed to damian lillard being completely neutralized by jrue holidaya Laker fan would counter with Pau Gasol not having any playoff wins when they got him
By Stern Go To PostWe also traded for his Bird rights and the ability to have 3 max players instead of 2.The Lakers did indeed trade for the right to pay him more.
I'm really curious how people will view AD next season now that he will be on a million more national TV games next season. Will he just be used as a garbage man and finisher since LeBron is so ball dominant? Just how many poor defenders can he cover for and for how many mpg? What if he is also the primary center for the Lakers? Will his body hold up? And, if it doesn't, will he be called soft?

Pretty sure people constantly criticize literally every player in the NBA using endless bad faith so I'm not sure there will be a way to actually judge how he's viewed.
Every player in the league other than Kawhi is considered trash by general basketball Twitter right now. Even Steph Curry who led his team to five straight Finals and Embiid who came one game from beating the Raptors.
People do criticize defense first players like Draymond and Gobert in even more bad faith than usual, but trolling is the only analysis in the NBA and no player is ever really praised.
I'm still going to laugh at those pick swaps but if we are being honest the Pelicans will be better than the Lakers by then anyway.
By diehard Go To PostThe Lakers did indeed trade for the right to pay him more.
We traded for the ability to go over the cap to extend him next year after signing a max free agent this year.
We wouldn't have even been able to sign him next year unless we mostly sat out free agency this year to preserve cap space.

The amount of hype he gets is kind of weird tbh, given what he's done, or I guess, what he hasn't.
I assume this deal is contingent on AD immediately signing a longterm deal with the Lakers? Because if it's not... what guarantee do the Lakers have that he stays? I mean the list of teammates LeBron has alienated/shit on isn't short. If things don't work out and AD leaves Lakers are done.

Which makes sense, because that's how he gets more money than an extension.

Yikes
Oof those pick swaps will be the worst. But it'll all be worth it to get a title or more while Lebron can still go. Not everyone can be the spurs and be consistently good for a 2 decades.
The 2022 draft is the one where high school players will be able to join. So, the Pels will either get a high pick from the Lakers in 2021, or get the likely equivalent of normal lottery pick in 2022, even if the pick is in the low 20s.

A single under .500 season since the 89-90 season and only six, total, since the 76-77 season. https://www.landofbasketball.com/teams/records_san_antonio_spurs.htm

I thought they needed the CBA to be updated to do that?
I know there was a lot of talk about it, but didn't here if there was a final resolution.

2022 is the Emoni Bates draft.
Giving away 3 firsts after Lebron is 37 is definitely Billy King tier. Lakers need to get Butler, Kemba, or Kawhi locked up long term for this to be remotely worth it.

that team is basically injuries waiting to happen and KCP/Kuzma
I'd rather bring back Brook and get a bunch of shooters than have kyrie/kemba
