By Stern Go To PostLakers would have enough for a third max guy. They'd sign Kawhi or whoever before AD and then exceed the cap to extend him because they'd have his Bird rights.
Unless they waive AD there would be a cap hold for his contract with expected raise.
So... no, not really.
By giririsss Go To PostUnless they waive AD there would be a cap hold for his contract with expected raise.
Soโฆ no, not really.
His hold is 27 for next year. LeBron is at 37, so it would be 64 combined. Wagner is 2, and Kuzma, Bonga and Hart are less than 2 apiece. The incomplete roster holds amount to like 4. There would be just about enough.

It's 27 for 19/20. For 20/21 it's a player option at 29. And prety sure cap holds put a +15% on the contract.
and LBJ is 37 for 19/20 39 for 20/21
So it's more like minimum of $70m. plus 5M for Deng. So ... $75 best case scenario, before minimum salary cap holds are put in place for open roster spots and any other players contact are included. If AD doesn't get his full bird extension, which is probably start at $40M a season or something.
Which ... isn't that the point of trading for him? Hoping he signs that extension?

For 3 stars the Lakers would have to sign someone first, then trade literally their entire roster for AD and fill out the rest of the roster spots with league minimum players.
It's not happening.
AD would very likely waive it if the Lakers are really his preferred destination. I did forget about Deng. So they'd be looking to trade Bonga and Wagner for future 2nds.
It would work.
It would work.
So over the last 6 years the Lakers got 3 #2 picks, a #4, #7 and 3 other first rounders and they turned it into getting AD 1 year early and Brandon Ingram?
If I were David Griffin I would've turned down that initial offer too and countered for Kuz, Ball, Hart, & #4. Throwing in that future pick for the spice is hilarious though. He's looking to fleece them.

By Kabro Go To Postyou sonsofabitches, you run with this and never look back.that is a lot of things to give away, lakers will have no depth.
By unknown Go To Postthat is a lot of things to give away, lakers will have no depth. And yet it's still a trash deal.
By Jonm Go To PostAnd yet it's still a trash deal.
A future All NBA point guard, a solid wing starter with borderline All Star potential, whoever the fuck you want at #4, and a solid bench guy in Hart, for a guy who would be guaranteed to leave in a year.
This would be a trash deal if he had like 3 years left on his contract.
Only problem is that keeping Ingram instead of Kuz probably does put a 3rd max out of play. From the breakdown I saw, we'd need to clear out basically everyone except Kuz and Hart to have almost all of a max available (would have been like $200k short). Now we'll be a couple million short of a max.

I heard the tax is like $4 on every dollar over the cap, too? Maybe I heard wrong. I don't really pay attention to this stuff.

Never change Puddles. Always here for the good troll.
I said FUTURE All-NBA point guard.
No reason why Lonzo can't be at least 3rd Team if that shot gets a bit better.

I'll give it to Lakers fans, they know how to irrationally overvalue average players.

By reilo Go To PostRajon Rondo put up better stats and played the same number of games ๐
Yet we were measurably worse in almost ever team stat when Rondo played vs Ball, but sure let the hate flow. Our worst offensive ratings were when Rondo and Bron played and he's a defensive sieve.
By Smokey Go To Postlonzo is trash
So is an aging chris paul with a ballooning contract. Want to hug it out?

I can see Lonzo making the all defensive team. I'm not so sure on All NBA though.
Anyone who watched Lakers game and didn't just boxscore watch or look at the stats knows how important Lonzo was to our offense and defense. It really isn't a coincidence that once he went down things dropped even further south.
Shit, in the game he got injured in we were up 20 against Houston and Houston came back and destroyed us the second he left the game.

Yeah, given Lonzo's injuries, he could end up working out like Curry's first couple of contracts in terms of value.
Stern is right, some team is just missing the big picture.

You'll eat your words when Lonzo gets a jumpshot and makes All-NBA while CP3 is nut punching orderlies in the nursing home.
