He should've just said no comment indefinitely. It's an option.

As usual he's just a giant hypocrite. If Black Lives Matter protestors did 1/10th of what the Hong Kong protestors do, he'll be crying for martial law.

AOC should be smarter than this too. The hypocrisy of soo many right now is so fucking obvious, but sure lock arms with fucking ted cruz anyway. Sure. Good job.

Is the argument here that instead of supporting the Hong Kong protesters, all energy should be instead spent criticizing Republicans for being anti-protest in the US?
What would be the goal?
The left hates China for being an authoritarian nightmare and the right hates China for being hostile to the United States. But... that's fine? If Congress is united on this issue, they could potentially pass bills harming the CCP which would be positive.

The argument is that, nobody suggests American companies lose out on their bottom line for anything ever. Unless of course it's a symbolic gesture for Hong Kong's freedom. When has Ted Cruz EVER poo pooed free trades and companies making money in China? When has anyone ever criticized the AG sector for basing entire crop on China's demand? When Americans want to increase the minimum wage it's cries form the right about bottom lines and job losses when CEO's are getting bonuses that should make anyone blush. Anyone out there asking other stars across other leagues with shoe deals to speak out? Anyone asking Apple to take a stand? How about the banking industry? What about any apparel company that produces tings in China? How many US made cars are just assembled here using Chinese manufactured parts.
AOC can support Hon Kong Protests while also calling out this hypocrisy, but nobody is doing that. Everyone is taking this as their opportunity to look good and point and laugh at the NBA or it's players for projecting their bottom lines. Something we as a society have greenlit at almost every opportunity we can.
EDIT: You think Ted Cruz would support Hong Kong if he stood to lose millions doing so? Has Ted Cruz criticized the POTUS for his lack of support for Hong Kong? Mother fucking Trump says NOTHING while he negotiates trade deals and his daughter is getting trade marks in China.

I think most people are generally fine with things being made and sold in China they just don't want the Chinese government to censor people in the US especially when it's over stuff like "Did the Tiananmen Square Massacre happen?"
It's not like this is just the NBA. Blizzard is, uhh, obviously getting shit on massively right now. Blizzard cancelled all their events promoting Overwatch's release on Switch due to protests that they thought would occur. Blizzard is getting mocked and humiliated by a huge variety of outlets.
Are people hypocrites... Obviously? But like... just focusing on hypocrisy is kind of weird when you can get someone to help you punish bad behavior.
I quit my job just recently because my boss kept fudging my numbers to help his political argument and it's just annoying to see people care about having $300m vs. $270m... The extra money is going to not really matter in day to day reality.

So again ... if this is the case, why are we not prodding more companies that sell and do business with China to speak up? Why just the NBA and Blizzard? Its only because those two companies had employees that forced their hand. China's censorship is through monetary means which is only possible if we're doing business with them and we do a fuck ton of business with them.
Why can't AOC and other libs critique the NBA and expand on that? This issue is MUCH MUCH larger than just the NBA but you would never know that based on the coverage this is getting. Gotta go to fucking snopes or some dark corner of the internet to even see how other companies are suppressing speech to prevent bottom line loses.

???
Blizzard like... is poison right now online.
Blizzard is getting way more criticism than the NBA and had to hide and not promote Overwatch Switch because of how scared of protests they were.
Blizzard's subreddits are the fastest growing subreddits this week because people are joining just to say how much they hate Blizzard.
Most US Congressmen don't play Blizzard games, but US Congressmen who do know about video games are shitting on Blizzard also.

Well a lot of less obvious censorship is... less obvious. Did Captain America and Bucky not bang in the MCU because of genuine creative decisions, because of manbabies outside of China, or because of fear of the CCP? That's.... really hard to tell. If DC never adapts World War 3 (in which Black Adam kills a ton of Chinese superheroes and attacks China in revenge against the CCP) is that not wanting to offend the CCP or is it because World War 3 is kind of a stupid story that doesn't really fit with the tone of the Shazam movie?
Meanwhile, the actions by the NBA and Blizzard are censors after the fact and are super obvious. And not only are they obvious, they're over people saying "human rights in Hong Kong would be good" which is a pretty terrible thing to crackdown on saying.

Don’t get me wrong, I would like it if the entirety of American business stood up in solidarity with Hong Kong. Maybe the government could create a fund for subsidizing business for of support freedom. Lol riiiiiiiiight.
And by the way, half the reason I’m asking for people to prod the obvious, is because doing so would expose more companies for the profit driven whores they are

No one likes the NFL or WWE or Facebook or Google or Amazon already and people already thought companies like these would bomb a town in Pakistan if it lead to a higher present value of future profits. The NBA and Blizzard had positive reputations before as fairly good companies and then they did this heinous stuff.
The NBA was actively getting praise (also Lebron) for the stances on social justice, it's just natural that there is an element of "I told you so" from people who thought it was about money all along.
So critique the woke but let the known slime slide by? IMO this issue should be bigger than it is for those that care, or people are gonna have to come to terms that this is just the cost of doing business with communists, because it is. Locking arms and taking pot shots at the NBA and Blizz ain’t gonna do shit in the long run but give politicians brownie points.

People saying that some of these guys are complete hypocrites because their paycheck is under fire for once? Very, very different.
It's like when people flex on NFL players for only doing certain things - money is a control device. It's amazing what a person will or won't do when their standard of living or one they provide for others is affected. For all the shit the NBA has been up about, guys haven't seen their wallets hit in a looooong time.
And let's be real, they don't give a fuck about Hong Kong and nothing they say or do will affect any changes on the problem as well. This is when you say no comment or Silver does his job and puts out guidance on the issue ahead of time. They do it for the Olympics and all other international events. This is a failure on his part more than anything.

I'm pretty sure this pressure is going to cause the NBA/China and Blizzard/China conflicts to escalate which could lead to bans in China or could lead to legislation being passed in the United States. Even if neither happens, Blizzard's marketing and promotion cycles are destroyed right now as they're humiliated and desperately want to avoid attention which will at the very least lead to Overwatch on Switch selling less than it would have before.
Fender, I'm super confused as to what you want the goal to be right now. What is the goal you want AOC to be pushing towards?

She’s a democratic socialist .... this entire thing is a black mark on capitalism and profit driven motiveS and she’s locking arms with the forces that created this. Shes not gonna tackle the grander issue though, cause it would likely cost her political capital in tbe current climate. Kind of ironic
Haspha just posted a tweet in poli that highlights a lot of my thought on this.
Key Houston Rockets reserve wing Gerald Green likely suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his left foot that would require season-ending surgery, league sources told ESPN.
Just imagine not having a company line after taking China money for when shit hitteth fan since it was entirely inevitable. Whew NBA.

Great work by the league and ESPN here, can't believe people online and US politicians are concerned by any of this, nothing to see here.
