By blackace Go To PostSo tanking is just a fashion thing in NY?Obviously drafting well/tanking helps, but does it help more than not playing in fly over country? I don't know...
By DY_nasty Go To Postthey probably could've won 35 if they'd tried and not dedicated the last bit of this season to last minute tanking along with Dirk's going away partyAgain who are they passing?if the Clippers get Kawhi it's a wrap.
By masud Go To PostObviously drafting well/tanking helps, but does it help more than not playing in fly over country? I don't know…only unbeatable team out west is GS. their two best players are young af, they've got a great coach, and money to burn - rushing back into the hunt with bad win-now hopes/moves is what gets teams fucked up more than anything...
Again who are they passing?if the Clippers get Kawhi it's a wrap.

By blackace Go To Postyou right. But he was high risk FA… NY fans keep acting like a big city attracting dudes left and right. When we signed Amare that was the first time we had cap space since we signed Houston. They haven't struck out that often they just never had the room. Also, even though he wasn't a free agent Carmelo forcing himself onto the Knicks by any means necessary is evidence of their attractiveness as a franchise.

Penny and Marbury were 30 million together...
By blackace Go To PostHouston was the problem…. you guys were taking any contracts… Penny and Marbury were 30 million together…I don't get what the Knicks signing Alan Houston 20 years ago has to do with the Knicks being an attractive free agent destination. That was a different era where players rarely left in free agency anyway. My point was the Knicks have only had cap space for a big free agent a few times in recent history and they were able to sign all star level players more often than not when they did. The one other time they had a clean slate they signed Amar'e, traded for Melo who couldn't even wait till free agency to get on the Knicks and then they signed future dpoty Tyson Chandler shortly after. I know people like to joke about the Knicks getting stuck with Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler but the reality is those guys wouldn't even pick up the phone for half the teams in the league but they would for the Kncks even though they suck.
Sorry.. I meant he wasn't the problem. Players see how poorly the franchise is ran and basically how poorly they treat their players former and current. The owner is a dickhead and players pick up the phone to drive value up, kinda like what Kerr did. Besides that big market flex isn't the same as it used to be. Players are getting exposure in small markets and making more money just from taxes being better.
The bottom line is NY itself might be hot for players.... but Brooklyn going to be the look

The thing is you're just assuming players feel this way based on no evidence. I literally gave you examples of the Knicks successfully attracting players despite how poorly they've been run. Also they're not currently being poorly run, Scott Perry has done a damn good job the last two seasons heading up the first all black front office in American sports (another advantage in a predominantly black league). Dolans an asshole to the media and fans but don't know how much players actually care about that, Chandler and Melo liked him.
Melo wanted that homecoming and clearly was about that money. And the Knicks have struck out repeatedly in free agency when they had caproom, so if it's not because they don't want shit to do with James than it's because a big city doesn't mean as much as you think.

First of all they haven't had cap space often enough to repeatedly do anything. They famously struck out on Lebron and when Phil was trying to get guys to fuck with the triangle that one time but other than that their track record on bringing in all star level talent (when they have the cap space to do so) is better than most teams, despite being terrible and having an asshole owner..
But if you think about it James has been the owner for 20 years and the track record is pretty bad no what wig you put on the pig...
I mean LBJ was a perfect fit and it should had been an easy deal... LBJ who went back to Cle and signed with a bumbling FO of LA wanted nothing to do with the Knicks that's telling...
Knicks track record is over paying guys... not attracting talent based on potentially winning or NY allure

By blackace Go To PostBut he basically plays like a dollar store version of Walker and people didn't like him and Luka together then. Yeah Kemba is way way better but just saying…DSJ is closer to the dollar store Westbrook than he is Kemba. I mean the whole reason he was so unhappy is because the Mavs wanted him to develop more off-ball and shooting skills to better complement Luka.

This year the only guy better with that kind of load was Harden.
Who the fuck gonna get him the ball on this team? Our next best distributor is a second round pick who plays the same position 😂 the whole reason Batum got paid was because he could run sets efficiently. And before that, the team always had a high post guy (Al Jeff, McBob, Diaw) to allow Kemba to do his thing off ball.
You put Kemba between Luka and Kristaps and defenses are fukt.

Griffin couldn't convince LeBron to stay in his home town and were supposed to believe he's gonna convince Davis to stay?

Can't wait for the second 180 kibner pulls off if Davis stays. Gonna be more epic than the Gondo heel turn when Durant left to GS.
Mean while in Lakerland, jeanie bus is consulting with linda rambis for a new coach while not having a president of bball operations.
