Did they just add a Machine Learning feature because they could?

By LFMartins86 Go To PostThat's pretty damn cool.dawg they absolutely did that to get more budget from Google. ML is the magic word to get your project approved in Mountain View
By sy X Go To PostSo this is basically for people with solid 30mbps connections huh
Rip
So like people from 10 years ago? 😎
By HasphatsAnts Go To Postdo wonder how bad the input lag will be for RDR on this thing. Solid half a second before your character starts to turn?So nothing out of the ordinary then.
By sy X Go To PostNo way a dev actually uses that style transfer shit.why not? It's a quick way to help prototyping games.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostDid they just add a Machine Learning feature because they could? And rightly so, ML is the future.

Sad to say, not in the way Google applies ML for most of the things they do.

By Zabojnik Go To PostWhat did I miss? I knew it would be a streaming service / box, but did they announce any games? No.

its just streaming with some kinda useless social media integration

I've placed at deep mind so feel different but curious to know why you feel like this? They're doing some breathtaking stuff especially when it comes to medical research. Just seems like a odd comment to make.

Just seems like a odd comment to make.Dammit, I wish I could remember where I read it, but basically Google is applying ML in an incorrect and irresponsible fashion, leading to end-results that just reinforce their own or society's biases.
By Kidjr Go To PostI've placed at deep mind so feel different but curious to know why you feel like this? They're doing some breathtaking stuff especially when it comes to medical research. Just seems like a odd comment to make.At any given point there's only so much interesting work happening at Google. 25% of it might be cutting edge while the other 75% is really boring or monotonous.
Now imagine if you're a Stanford PhD at Google and you're being asked to figure out whether this YouTube button should be blue or red. You're well paid, but probably not that jazzed about the actual work you're doing.
Now, adding an ML dimension to your work is a quick and easy way to make your work more interesting and also get exposure to senior leadership, which creates a lot of solution seeking rather than actual problem solving.
By Smoke Dogg Go To PostAnyway, biggest takeaway is that next gen is base 10.7 tflops.Rumors have them at 12-14 tflaps
By sy X Go To PostRumors have them at 12-14 tflaps
PS4 was 1.84 tflops, right?
Well, assuming Sony matches 10.7 tflops, PS5 is going to be at least six PS4s duct taped together.
That's not as comparable as the jump from Xbox 360 to PS4.
14 tflops would certainly make it so, however.
By rerixo Go To Postlooks coolBecause people in developing countries play games too?
why are people mad that its not suitable for 3rd world countries
Or was that a trick question?
By Bold 2 in One Go To PostBecause people in developing countries play games too? This is actually more suitable for 3rd world countries. People will be more likely to have access (especially in more socialist countries) to high speed Internet than they will be able to afford a high end GPU.

That's Wales and most of England tbf

getting a good graphics card is just saving up some money, the internet required to stream a game in 60fps is just not available to most people

Some countries have fairly inexpensive broadband Internet (Russia, Egypt, Iran, Syria, Tunisia, Mexico, Dominican Republic for example) that would allow people to use a service like this, if it's priced fairly.. without paying for hardware. It adds another service option, it doesn't take away any existing ones.
Broadband Internet availability in the coming decade will continue to make it a more viable option as opposed to increasing hardware prices for many.
By diehard Go To PostNo.

For sure. Hell even here in Denmark, it could be a viable option for some. Hardware is generally expensive as fuck, while most families already have good to great internet.
I am sure people will still want to buy a decent gpu down the road. But seeing as most people already have the good internet starting point... It's hard to imagine there not being some going this way. Especially considering the amount of kids I see these days, who only use ipad and shitty ass laptops, despite loving gaming.
@me when there's some hard data comparing input lag and lateness of this streaming service vs running the games natively.
@me again with image quality comparisons between the streaming tech and running the games natively.
Edit: I'mma @myself
This shit is DOA.

I've played some games in the GeForce Now beta a bit. It's... okay? There's a definite disconnected between playing the game natively versus streaming. There is a definite input lag and drop in resolution quality much like you can experience it even streaming movies, but probably more pronounced. Granted, it was a beta, it felt pretty novel.
But the quality and latency are definitely issue. This tech is novel, but maybe we are just a decade or two away.
Also, I was running Geforce Now on a 250Mbit connection and a mesh wifi network, so, not quite gigabit but probably overall on average better than enough.

I really don't see how many games will be playable with the 166-188ms input lag in the Digital Foundry test video. That's bad.
By rodeoclown Go To PostI really don't see how many games will be playable with the 166-188ms input lag in the Digital Foundry test video. That's bad.Is that before bluetooth controller and TV lag are accounted for or all together?
By reilo Go To PostIs that before bluetooth controller and TV lag are accounted for or all together? It was 166ms but vs 145ms from a One X with all latencies accounted for, on Ethernet it was 145ms also. If it's DOA its because the controller doesn't have offset sticks.
