By EldritchTrapStar Go To PostTrying to speedrun through hardcore. Holy shit, this difficulty is something else. Some of the earlier halls went from trouble to absolutely hellish. 😐Because of the stupid decision to up zombie toughness with the ink ribbons, you have to play the game differently. Focus on evasion and baiting animations rather than fighting unless you absolutely have to do things in a particular room and you need it clear. Save that ammo until the sewers.
Holy shit do I hate fighting Lickers with Leon. How many shots do they take on hardcore... 😐
Took way to long clearing zombies and got to Birkin 1 in 50 minutes. I know my route and can probably get that to 30.
Might have screwed myself with ammo, but I have 3 flashbangs and my knife. This shit is so stressful.

I'm a blogger, game enthusiast, and a game writer. I've bought the newest Resident Evil 2 Remake, and it's awesome, to say the least. Had an amazing experience with Leon, and today seems like an evening with Claire haha! I've struggled during my first hours, as the game is really intense, and thrilling, however, my skills have increased tremendously heading towards the mid-game. Anyway, I'm writing this because I've noticed a couple of neat tricks that have helped me to hone my skills and thus increase my experience. I've written a guide about the new game, in hopes that it'll be helpful at least to someone! Check out my Resident Evil 2 tips

Thank you, and have a pleasant experience! With or without my tips, the game is sick, and if anyone is still wondering whether it's worth it, it totally is!

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postfuk hardcore mode, not even gonna attempt itI've put it off for 2 weeks, going to play it tonight. The thing you absolutely have to do is understand you can't play it like the non-hardcore run. Like evasion is like a 50-50/60/40 thing for a good portion of the game, and it's worse because of the lack of buildup. The decision to buff enemies is really dumb. To be honest, if ink ribbons existed on normal I'd play normal.
By s y Go To PostClaire 2nd run is a lot more aggressive than Leon's first run.Yep, that's basically Resident Evil 2. Though it's not a common sentiment, I felt that Claire's Run seemed harder in the original but that was probably due the the optional decisions.
Started over with Claire on Hardcore mode. Made it to the library puzzle after activating Mr. X, without taking a death. Took a little over an hour, but I didn't have anything mapped out, after Birkin 1.
I don't know how to kill him quick. I guess using acid rounds, and the knife, should get the job done faster?

By MonadL Go To PostThese fucking regenerating plant thingsI'm still stuck at the beginning. I have wasted 4 straight recording because these idiot devs in Hardcore Mode made it that you die in two bites at the beginning. They in their infinite wisdom disabled the map feature in the beginning so it's not uncommon after you find out the door is locked and the key is behind the zombie to try to unlock the wrong door.
fuck
To think the mental midgets at CapCom junked the whole "get to the Police Station" scenario.
Are you stuck at the gas station or the streets before RPD? Either way, it's not difficult. Run past the first zombie, then shoot him in the leg, after you get the key. If you're dieing in the streets, then I've got nothing. It's all spectacle. You shouldn't die there, unless you're sight seeing.
Honestly, your post is probably a good reason why it was cut. Lol.

Beat Claire A at 12 hours. I'm slow as hell lol but damn what a game. Can't wait to see a RE3 remake next. Also this version of Claire needs her own game.

Like I said, this is on Hardcore so I'm trying to do most areas without actually using ammo, just baiting enemies into their reactions. It would help if I actually played it the last 2 weeks. :p

The sewers, bah. I can get through with only taking 1 hit in that awful gauntlet with the young G creatures. My problem is, I don't trust my ammo count and I left stuff in the RPD. G2 is a bitch and I don't trust my aim enough to 1 phase him. 😔
Hardcore: Claire A - 3:08:23 : A Rank.
Had I not spent so much time in the beginning and decided not to return to the police station (during the sewers), I probably could have gotten S, meh.
Didn't 1 phase G2. I'll probably be able to, once I learn the strat.
G3 with Acid rounds...lol. I think I had 20 plus on deck, a knife, and like 4 magnum rounds. That fight went smooth enough.
G4 is easy, depending on how many grenades you've saved. I think I had around 10 regular grenades, a knife, and the minigun. The minute he tries to climb the wall, grenade him, and use the knife / minigun. Wash, rinse, repeat. He's dead af.
Welp, time to try again.
100%. I really hope the randomizer rumors are true.

Claire B
Between the lickers in the parking garage mang and juking X in the police station this is a bit more intense than Leon A. At least Claire has better guns.

true. some people think leon has the better weapons, but he has no reliable staggers when it comes to lickers, even with the magnum. Claire? Hit em with an acid round, 5 bullets with the SMG as they flail around for half a minute ez mode.
Why in the hell is Runaway rated with a 2 star difficulty level? It's way harder than Kendo's. D:
Unless the loot is randomized, this isn't roguelike at all.

It's like Hunk's mode, with the exception that certain zombies have items (they wear backpacks) that you can pick up, and certain "vending machines" allow you to choose one.
The unlockable "level", that you get for completing them, isn't like any of the others. It's a horde stage.
Edit: Claire A - Standard - 2:07:27 - 0 Saves - S+

The first save that I made was in the sewers. That part isn't to bad, but you can screw up your time in the labs, if you're not careful. As it stood, I skipped the SMG and I know I left a bunch of ammo in the RPD.
Careful flame round use makes this less of a hassle. I ended up using a nade or two more than I should have, thanks to the g creatures. It's possible to bait all of them, and run past them, but I don't have the timing.
G2 can be 1 phased, which I did, but I kept stunning him out of position. Ended up using all of my magnum rounds, which ended up screwing my G3 fight. Also, that ceiling phase can be skipped. Turn on the power, trigger him by running to the door, then run to where the red herb was. On that wall, is a safe spot. Hit the arm once or twice, with a flame round, then run past him as he's entering (you have space).
The labs were filled with ammo mismanagement. Went to G3 with no magnum rounds, a knife, not as many acid rounds as I should have had, and a couple grenades, because I needed them for G4. My last save was right before this fight (2nd in the lab beginning). Had to perfect him with the most that I had, over the course of two deaths.
G4 can be beaten with the minigun, two grenades, and a couple handgun bullets (if I even used them). I don't think I used the knife here, but just focus on the eyes. Nade toss when he climbs the wall and punish during his recovery. I had time, so I played it extra safe.
Walk past every licker (I didn't kill 1).
You see Mr. X for like 5 minutes or less.
Skip the SMG
Skip everything in the weapons locker room, except the grenade launcher. You don't need the extra pouch either.
Now, to play Claire B, for the first time.

Don't think there's a single game that I like enough to min-max a timed run like that
Do you have to learn which corridors are wide enough to go around the zombies, which rooms you can bait them into etc?

Yes and no. The game is pretty forgiving about that aspect. There are two rooms in the sewers where you absolutely should kill the zombies and possibly the 2 active ones in the library(not the one eating). The rest is up to preference. I think I killed like 5 over the course of the run and incapacitated the ones that might have gotten in the way. The rest can be ran past (even the ones that might not seem like you'll be able to).
Zombies recover from being stunned forever, so you have more than enough time to just shoot most in the leg or head and leave.
The most difficult part is knowing how much ammo to save for bosses, and what route to take.
Also, I think Claire runs faster in caution status, so there were segments where I was feeling myself and running around with low health.
Finally beat the game.
Couldn't really play after launch due being ill and some other circumstances.
Played the A route with Leon. What a wonderful game.
The one big criticism I have is the nearly non-existant music. The actual sound design is great, even though I played with headphones as the PS4 was far too loud. It just felt like the music was missing. Got the dlc and gonna use it for the Claire B run (actually tried it and it was lovely), but I couldn't bother to switch that shit halfway through the campaign.
Apart from that I had alot of fun. Shooting was great, use of secondary weapons and generally the tactical approach you could take.
Mr.X wasn't that bad tbh. Knew when I would trigger him, so I tried to get everything done before, so I wouldn't have to bother with him that long.
Only got pissed off when he appeared during the switch to Ada, as I got stuck in that small room..
Really enjoyed the level design. The character design was also pretty great and they really elevated some of the side characters.
Graphics are great and I'm continued to be suprised how well the RE Engine is running.
Capcom did really damn well. Worth the wait. Hopefully they'll follow the same approach with Nemesis and actually work on some things. No need for that much action as the original Nemesis.

Exact same place as you Penny-kun. About to start Claire B too with old soundtrack.
Although part of me is tempted to do a Claire A run first.
