Imagine a normal mid-western U.S. town, built at the base of a vast forest. Business thrived here, especially with the advent of several new industries. Heck, you couldn't find a more peaceful wilderness getaway than Raccoon City. Then the trouble began... rumors spread about weird creatures being seen after dark and the town was overcome by odd occurrences, mysterious unexplained animal attacks and fatal accidents happening at an alarming rate. Word got out about a severe accident at a lab in the Arklay Mountains, and few knew what was really going on.
In order to quell the growing public unrest, The Raccoon City Police Department hired several new police officers. As he drove into the outskirts of town, a promising recruit named Leon S. Kennedy attempted to call his captain but had no luck in contacting him. Unfazed, he continued into town to start his orientation.
On the other side of town, a distraught teenage named Claire Redfield search for her missing brother Chris. Claire began her search in Raccoon City, where she received her last message from him two month ago. After learning about the mysterious "accident" in the forest, she hoped to find him safe and sound...
Sadly for Leon and Claire, they were completely unaware of the overwhelming world of horror and despair they were both about to enter. Their nightmare was about to begin...

Notable character design stuff
Redesigning the characters was a difficult task, in a VG24/7 interview, Tsuyoshi Kanda stated that the development team are all fans of the series, and when it came to discussing any change to the character design, it was if they had "a hundred different Resident Evil fans all saying ‘I think this is the right way, and this looks best, and this is the most important thing to focus on’".

Claire's design was modernized while keeping the original idea that she is a biker and student. Ada however took a long time to get right for the team. Kanda-san playfully joked at her design in Resident Evil 4 stating that she appears in a "red Chinese dress, being like ‘I’m a spy, by the way…’ You’re going to stand out in Spain wearing that!". In the end they decided to make her look like a more classic spy - someone who is trying to blend in. However, Kanda stated that the "ultimate goal isn’t realism at all costs".
In the same interview, Kanda-san also stated that the Plant 43 enemies were almost "skipped" because the team told him that "it’s really hard to make a plant monster in a more realistic atmosphere". Him and the rest of the team kept discussing about Plant 43 for about an year - "them saying it couldn’t be done and me as producer saying I wanted it in there."
The Lickers in the game are able to get back to walls and ceilings, in an EDGE interview, director Kazunori Kadoi comments on how a junior programmer made that possible, commenting on how a veteran worker would have thought that the Licker is what it was in the original game. He also mentioned that the "not knowing what you can't do" approach of younger developers fit this situation perfectly. (video of the Licker AI can be seen here)

RE Ghost Survivors Polygon article
Capcom is working on a new game mode for its Resident Evil 2 remake that offers three additional perspectives on the zombie infestation of Raccoon City. That mode, The Ghost Survivors, will be released as a free update to the game, Capcom announced at Resident Evil 2’s launch event in Japan.
The Ghost Survivors will be a side story that focuses on three survivors: Robert Kendo, the firearms dealer who owns Raccoon City’s Kendo Gun Shop; an unnamed member of the Umbrella Security Service; and Raccoon City mayor Michael Warren’s daughter, who meets a tragic fate at the hands of the city’s police chief.
According to a translation of the event from Siliconera, The Ghost Survivors will include randomized scenarios, an enemy unique to the game mode, and a shop where players can purchase items with points they earn in-game. We’ve reached out to Capcom for more details.
In addition to The Ghost Survivors, Capcom has some more free content planned. Low-polygon character model costumes for Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, known as ’98 Leon and ’98 Claire, will be released for the game for free in March.
By Laboured Go To PostFrankman came through. Not happy with it. I can't find all my RE2 crap I packed away from the late 90s-early 00s. That's part of why this is incomplete and took eons. Trying to find my old passwords from the RE boards I used to frequent.
By Hitch Go To PostIs it adaptive AI, or adaptive damage?Pretty sure of the 1st, not sure of the 2nd.
By Laboured Go To PostIss the OST up for the PC deluxe version? I couldn't see an option last night. The alternate OST? Yeah you can change it in the options.
By Laboured Go To PostSeems a shame that the Remake soundtrack just seems incredibly muted and under-used.
its basically nothing lol
the original OST IS a bit awkwardly mixed into the game, there are some jarring transitions, but you get used to it and imo enhance the atmosphere. I just suggest turning the BGM level in the sound settings down to 50 percent, maybe even a bit lower so that the brilliant sound effects in the game can shine and atmospheric music doesn't become overpowering.
ideally we would have gotten more effort into the modern track--but I think despite all the bells and whistles visually, the game may actually have been made on a relatively low budget compared to most AAA RE games.
@Frankman - little more info
Upcoming free DLC - „The Ghost Survivors“
Coming soon, free additional content titled “The Ghost Survivors,” will be available for Resident Evil 2. This content explores ‘what if’ scenarios around victims of the Raccoon City outbreak and what happens if they survive the events of the main game. Turn the clock back a little, and challenge the fate that awaits a U.S.S. agent, the daughter of the mayor, and a gun shop owner.

By Freewheelin Go To PostJust encountered a licker for the first time…Allah nothis is what you have trained your entire life for, led
this is your true destiny
By Freewheelin Go To PostJust encountered a licker for the first time…Allah noI REALLY don't like the AI for it. Capcom messed up the Licker ever since RE5.
I feel like there's way more tension between Leon and Claire in this than the original
I blame the actors

By data Go To PostI feel like there's way more tension between Leon and Claire in this than the originalYep, messed up that the remake didn't have the original VAs for Leon and Claire.
I blame the actors
By SUPER YARAK Go To PostThe licker is badly implemented imo
Interested. Seems like they can take a tonne of damage but they have bone plating. Are there no weak spots other than fire?
By Laboured Go To PostInterested. Seems like they can take a tonne of damage but they have bone plating. Are there no weak spots other than fire?Which is odd because their glaring weak spots (heart and brain) are exposed. They have always been a failed experiment in the RE world after RE2, they were only brought back in RE5 for nostalgia. Hell you could target the heart in RE5 for an OHKO QTE in that game.
By SUPER YARAK Go To PostSuch a waste of bullets to see if they are alive.
:lol
Picking the game up tomorrow instead.
By data Go To PostI imagine this game gets hella easy with a mouseDoubt it.
By data Go To PostI imagine this game gets hella easy with a mouseNope. Easier to aim initially but the nature of the shooting mechanics means that it's still easy to miss shots.
police station approach was better in the original--it's like 50 yards away for the tanker crash here. once you're inside rpd it's gold tho.

but I guess we gotta wait on RE3

By The Frankman Go To PostSuch a waste of bullets to see if they are alive.I wasted four or five bullets trying to get a crit on a zombie laying on the floor lol. Feels good when you get a crit in one shot though.
As someone who never played the original RE2, this game is fucking great so far.
i guess i just mister top hat lad for the first time, in the underground jail part.
enjoying it so far. not enjoying the random flirting with zombies all around though, or the fact that my knife breaks.

feel like I might have left shit in the police station...just couldn't find any of the cranks to save my life. Statue where you place red gem from original isn't there, probably relocated
Played last night. HDR enabled (PC). Easy 4k60. Had to basically move the brightness slider all the way to the left to get rid of the grey looking blacks. Never really played RE2 myself for reasons I listed in the main gaming thread. Started with Leon. Game is good. Looks good. Atmosphere is great now that black looks black. Want to play some more, bit rather rock with it at night time.
envious of peeps who never played the original, despite the changeups they've done the layout of the rpd is still mapped into my brain which saps a bit of the difficulty/tension
i played it, but other than very few things here and there, i don't remember the layout at all.
do you have to fight mr x when you meet him? first time i just met him and i kind of felt like i had to shoot him a bunch before he just... stopped moving and i could run past him. i stocked up on ammo so nicely, but it's all running out now.

I've been running from him for the last 30 minutes so probably
He came in the lobby and it broke my brain

What is up with animations running at like fucking 10 fps when at a distance? Looks super fucking terrible

Runs at 30fps, and yeah, it's a shame.
By Wahabipapangus Go To Posti played it, but other than very few things here and there, i don't remember the layout at all.He is a bit of a sponge initially, just like in RE2.
