By LFMartins86 Go To PostSpeaking of Crackdown, it did 4k in it's first 3 days in the UK, didn't even crack the Top 10.
In fairness, the poor deranged souls that have played it probably just used gamepass instead of putting down £40-£50 on it.
By Hitch Go To PostI don't remember destiny or the division ever blocking campaign progress behind checklist challengesyou cant do shit in destiny without running around endlessly. that's their biggest problem still - you can't even get to the DLC you pay for without jumping through hoops. this is the same game that had a 10 step quest line just to unlock pvp bounties at one point. pvp in d2? ask psy and frankman how that free weekend went lol. both had to have a roadmap just to get there. oh you want to get to the next story mission? better hop online and check out that public event timer... destiny patched in so much stuff that people actually forget how jank certain systems were.
division? do people not remember having to unlock your own base? even if you had access to an area - you still had to sidequest up some dumb shit and collect collectibles to get your medical wing up to access whatever progression locking mission was next.
warframe? no. just no.
borderlands? same shit
why is this a theme - because people honestly don't mind as long as you get to shoot shit because that's what the game is built around. shooting shit, the next chest, the next encounter to test out your new kit on, etc. if the gameplay is there and the cycle is decent, shit's fine. mass effect been dead. maybe if people were focused on what killed it instead of groupthinkpretending that the ending alone ruined everything then it might still be alive. but naw
All of the division campaign progress was framed around missions iirc, all the checklist stuff around it was just there if you wanted it
From what I can tell anthem legit says 'want to do the next mission? Complete this checklist you cunt.'
Maybe it does have story updates in the midst of it, if it does I haven't heard it

That's the point.

if collecting matching stuff while staring at the ground is a mission then sure why not.

It's almost like the quality of wrapping for the quest objectives matters.
Don't get me wrong, Destiny and The Division's mission design isn't good by any means. But it's something

im jus sayin be consistent. the same reviewers popping bottles for warframe coming to switch got nothing to say about the nonsense you gotta do just to get a new suit and level up after *years* of cooking and updates but suddenly got complaints they've never had for anything else before in the genre? k

Warframe's grind is bullshit, there is so much wrong with that game at design level but people hand-wave all its flaws with the "its free" argument, its genuinely infuriating.

It's not only the end game or loot that's the only problem, it's that and various other things. It's not even game with shit endgame or loot that didn't get shat on. Division, Destiny 1 & 2, Diablo 3, had the same issues.
Now it's not sure if Anthem can recover like 2 of those games. Diablo 3 did at first, but Blizzard pull the plug after they released the widely praised expansion because they aren't getting MTX for it.
By Flutter Go To Postfucking hell.the end game issues lol? 2 things - 1) the game is tiered endgame not flat, so the "there's not enough raids wahh" stuff is dumb. when you take that approach, every activity can be end game because you can just keep ticking the difficulty up... especially if the rewards aren't limited to specific event related bs. whether that breaks the game at some point or not is what to watch for. 2) its not even been a full *actual* week. and even with all of that every endgame in everything is trash out the box.

what's the sink or swim there? developer feedback and effective communication. that's always the biggest constant. its what killed division 1 prematurely and what puts a lid on whatever good destiny does. frankly, its the one thing bioware doesn't credit enough for. before andromeda, they had a great run staying attached to their titles.
diablo 3's issues.... lol. it was a bigger issue than the auction house because their idea of endgame rng instances was spawning bosses with unbeatable skill combinations. you simply weren't getting past hard cc, teleporting ultras with spinning lasers no matter what you did or had. those games did not have the same end game problems at all man
I said shit endgame, I didn't say they all had the same end game problems. You're so caught up in trying to defend the game that you actually overthink a simple explanation.
Diablo 3 took more than a year to become fun, at least i’m enjoying anthem when it lets me play. The game has potential it just is in a clusterfuck stage right now which is frustrating because some of the issues don’t even make sense from a design standpoint.
By Flutter Go To PostI said shit endgame, I didn't say they all had the same end game problems. You're so caught up in trying to defend the game that you actually overthink a simple explanation.im not defending shit lol bringing up blizzard's management of all things is off the wall.
and again for consistency - name one good endgame out the box.

I only bought up Diablo's problem because it couldn't be fixed. Why are you so caught up in that particular subject, because did you assume that I'm trying to insinuate Anthem would have the same problem, or are you trying to get a win out of an argument?
This is Era quality defending DY. Play the game. You'll probably love it because you're playing with friends but not acknowledging the various problems people are having with the game right now is something. That's some quality whataboutism.
I'm a hoor for loot so really wanted to get on Anthem next week but it seems like one to wait a while on. Maybe I'll pick up Metro instead, or maybe I should just play something in my backlog
By Flutter Go To Postwhy should I name one good endgame out of the box? Because Anthem, a game that came out AFTER all of these games' endgame were shit, it's ok for it to be shit without learning from the past mistakes other games made?because the endgame isn't what you prioritize - the way people respond to a game's framework is how you best define what you're doing later on. its a cart before the horse what you're describing. which is why i go back to every endgame being bare or shit out the box. and diablo's problem absolutely did get fixed. the endgame there is dope af now but a lot of what they did was getting out of their own way - in true blizzard fashion, it was much harder than it needed to be

if i was defending anthem i'd be defending the performance issues on pc, the UI problems, clan shit, etc. this other stuff? its not whataboutitsm if its the whole genre of games. may as well complain about a jrpg being too linear lol

I always did the side stuff as it popped up before even trying the main missions so have no experience of feeling like I needed to grind to continue the campaigns.

In Dy's defence, these games often release incomplete, I bet no one here played Warframe on its release in 2014 - it was aids in game form. Wouldn't use it as example to aspire to.
