By Hitch Go To PostLoving subnautica already, not sure I made the right choice turning hunger and thirst on though.I read up on it before starting the game, it sounded like a bit of a chore, so I turned it off and never looked back. The resource management is enough to keep you occupied early on. You can't turn it off on your current save? I forgot how it works.
Then again, I imagine it becomes a rather trivial mechanic after the first 10 hours or so.
By Hitch Go To PostIs there a way to instantly tread water when you surface instead of descending again? Was feeling a bit directionless for a while, just got the signal from pod 3 and have made myself a load of supplies for the journeyHave you started building a base yet? It doesn't have to be amazing, a basic one with a couple of rooms in shallow waters (running on solar power) will do the job. I recommend building half a dozen storage lockers inside your base as soon as you're able, you can't have too much storage.
Don't think you can turn it off after starting, it becomes a pointless mechanic like two hours in. The thermal knife means you never have to look for food, and there are shitloads of bladderfish around. Got a base by my lifepod that's just 2 X-corridors with a hatch on the top and about 12 lockers. Not sure if I'll ever get around to actually sorting out what goes in which locker. Gonna build a bin just so I can get rid of all the waterproof containers littered around it from earlier. Just built the rebreather, hope it's enough to do the 300m dive. Am I supposed to be able to get into the Aurora at this point?

Am I supposed to be able to get into the Aurora at this point?I tried to and kind of did, but it wasn't exactly the "material X goes into locker X, material Y in locker Y" I had in my mind when I set on organizing things, hehe. As long as you're not constantly running out of storage space, you'll eventually find a system that works for you, so don't stress.
Not sure how deep you can go without a ... proper vehicle. Let's just say that shit gets fucking wild and terrifying the deeper you go.
You can get into the Aurora from the bow / front side fairly early on. I did and it was fun exploring it with limited resources / tools, but you won't be able to get to the main thing you need from it for the endgame this early into the game. So it's up to you.
Be sure to thoroughly explore and scan every derelict you'll find for the various components / modules. In fact, leave a beacon (and name it) at every interesting thing you find. Like a passage into an abyss you can't get down to yet and the various points of interest. It'll make life much, much easier later on, when you can get it to and won't have to spend half an hour searching for places you've already been to.
Also, Subnautica's wiki is your friend. Tons of useful info.

It seems to be a pretty shoddy port, really. It has serious issues running over 60 fps, the audio is a mess, pc has no file share, theater, or forge.

Sources: Microsoft Is Still Planning A Cheaper, Disc-Less Next-Gen Xbox
In June, Microsoft announced Project Scarlett, a new iteration of the Xbox that the company said would “set a new bar for console power, speed and performance.” What Microsoft didn’t say is that it is also working on a lower-cost, disc-less version of Scarlett, code-named Lockhart, according to four people briefed on the company’s plans. This is such an unbelievably dumb idea.
If those names sound familiar, that’s because they’ve been floating around for a while. The earliest rumors about Microsoft’s next-gen roadmap, circa 2018, suggested that Project Scarlett would consist of two Xbox models: the high-performance Anaconda and the lower-end Lockhart. In June, however, Microsoft announced that Scarlett was a single, high-end console, which led to speculation and then press reports that Lockhart had been canceled. But Kotaku has learned that Lockhart is in fact still in the works as a cheaper, digital-only alternative to Scarlett, as the original rumors suggested.
What we don’t know—and what likely isn’t finalized yet—is how the pricing will shake out. But it’s easiest to think of Anaconda as a successor to the Xbox One X and Lockhart as a successor to the Xbox One S, with a similar performance disparity. Game developers will be expected to support both Anaconda and Lockhart, which some are worried might hamper their ambitions for next-gen games in the coming years.
When speaking to Kotaku, one game developer briefed on Lockhart analogized it to the PlayStation 4 Pro in terms of raw graphical powerMS pls
By /sy Go To PostSony got 1st place in the bag againi mean MS only managed to squeeze out a tie launching a year earlier, having sony fuck up pretty much everything, catch lightning in a bottle with kinect and being up to $300 cheaper.
i see no realistic path for MS to "win", especially not now that Sony has a bunch of first party games that sell incredibly well.

You can justify expensive hardware while also shelling out cash for the game and you don't have to play, because there is nothing to play.
Go for it Smokey.

Why tho? So many games released with modern computer hardware in mind can still run on far older and less capable hardware.

By HoboVapes Go To PostWhy tho? So many games released with modern computer hardware in mind can still run on far older and less capable hardware.Because it fragments the user base, makes more work for developers and makes the next gen leap lesser with everybody publishing on Xbox having to design their games to run on a 4 TF machine. It serves as a needless limitation.
I can only imagine the headache of having a cross gen game in the launch window, having to develop to run on an Xbox One, Lockhart, Xbox One X and Anaconda.
devs weren't happy about Lockhart in the first place.
Also there's a chance some devs just heard about this from the rumor Warren posted yesterday than from MS itself.

Consoles are basically PCs and all games are basically PC games at this point. If you are not making your game as scalable as possible you are already doing it wrong.
Microsoft is obviously going to release their games on PC, so are all the big publishers, and if you are independent you should be using an engine that can scale down and up (so most of the popular ones out there) and it's also unlikely you are taking advantage of the console hardware during the first 2 years.
As long as MS are not skimping on the SSD for the cheaper SKU it shouldn't be a problem.

By rerixo Go To Postsounds fine? devs are used to fragmentation from mid gen upgrades anywayI mean, the Pro and X just had beefier gpus and more ram. Lockhart has a different, lower clocked cpu, among other cuts that will have to be made to sell that thing for ~$300. The worse cpu will definitely make a difference.
devs will put the majority of resources in scarlett and we'll see switch-like garbo ports on the struggle xbox

Microsoft’s Anaconda console will be the true next-gen leap, and sources tell The Verge that Microsoft is targeting more than 10 teraflops of graphical power on this particular console. Plans for Lockhart may change, but currently this console will debut with around 4 teraflops of graphical power.

A game will run and be fine on both
Kotaku reports that Lockhart will include a solid state drive, and will be targeted toward 1440p gaming rather than the 4K gaming that will be available on Anaconda. We understand both Anaconda and Lockhart will share familiar next-gen hardware. Sources say that Lockhart will get a next-gen CPU, but that it will be clocked slower than what’s available on Anaconda. This should mean developers can take advantage of the SSD and CPU upgrades that are planned for Anaconda in games that span across both next-gen Xbox consoles.
Sounds ok to me 🤷♂️
