Playing Control now, the performance got considerably better than launch, but it's still absolute shit at times on a Pro
By Smokey Go To PostControl won't be forgotten. It's literally future proofed with its tech. It will be used for years to test ray tracing performance and to measure each generational advancement.so basically every body will forget it but 12 pac gamers
By Not Go To PostControl would be unmemorable if everyone wasn't desperate to prove it wasthe gaming landscape with Control is literally the woman and the cat meme
Playing Nioh, and a lot of the early design decisions don't really make sense, to me.
The first real boss, is ass. It doesn't teach you anything, and does the combat system an injustice. It's not a "fun" fight either. Block gets you guard broken, so just dodge around in a cramped ass room, with no good gear, and an inability to use half of your defensive options.
Why was the tutorial, placed after this "wall"?
The second boss actually teaches you how to play the damn game, and does it in a rhythm that's easy to comprehend and fun to play out. That's after you fight super strong wall demons and huge ass monsters. The sequencing feels out of place.
Once upon a time, I might have been one of those, "runs to the boss aren't bad" fellas, but this shit is a waste of my damn time. Starting to wonder why I ever gave Dark Souls a pass, for making this trend. I just want to repeat the boss, without doing all of this extra run around shit.
Stamina meters are crutches now. This was definitely not needed.

The run to the boss always has been and always will be the shittest part of Souls-likes
I'm not learning how to fight, I'm learning how to avoid those specific enemies as I get back to the fog gate
Nioh had a fucking awful one where you'd start miles away from the oil blob boss

It was like watching an art film. Beautiful, you can understand where they are going with it but at the back of your mind you'd rather do something else.
By EldritchTrapStar Go To PostPlaying Nioh, and a lot of the early design decisions don't really make sense, to me.The type of replayability you're willing to forgive as someone who only has like the one game at that time and as a younger individual is always going to be different than when you're older and looking at a huge library and having to seriously pick and choose what to play. You've got relationships, a job and even all kinds of other entertainment (hello streaming) really vying for your time too. Some stuff is just on the "lol fuck this" level.

But you ALSO have to pay to subscribe as well. And if you stop subscribing then the game you paid full price for will disappear until you re-subscribe.
Edit: they've corrected it now. You only lose free games.
nioh has a great combat system but a game not designed that well to take advantage of the system
i agree that the first boss is terrible, in fact most of the game never fully tells you how to play, i also feel like the stance system is never really taken advantage of, most of the game can be played in medium, then switch to low for bosses
got like 30 hours into the game then realized i was still fighting the same shit as 20 hours ago just now they can kill me faster, dropped it and didnt come back

By RrusheR Go To PostSouls games are full time jobs with no pay.And they kinda suck outside of the boss fights.
May as well just play monster hunter
Nioh is Souls with better combat but worse everything else...except the better combat doesn't even matter because the enemy design isn't that great.

Long video, definitely interested in what they did behind the scenes.

In this presentation by The Coalition, Studio Technical Art Director Colin Penty outlines how they utilized tools like Houdini, Maya and a number of UE4's latest rendering features such as temporal upscaling, volumetric fog, distance fields, compute ray traced shadows, and bent normals for specular occlusion to craft the visually spectacular Gears 5. He also shares strategies for building on top of Unreal to achieve the desired aesthetic, all while hitting a silky smooth 60 fps on Xbox.

Maybe PvP games just aren't for them and they'd have just as much fun going against bots...
