Family sharing, pre-caching shader files for your hardware, and download bandwidth management are pretty good adds, too.
Oh yeah, being able to sell lootbox items and shit easily is also pretty cool.

By Red Blaster Go To Postthe steam client is a shitty website that's slow, unresponsive and looks like asscrap. the design of the storefront has had no major changes since like 2010. and peeps fronting like there's nothing that could be improved lol.the artifact money? you mean that game with like 500 players?
big picture is actually kind of nice, would be neat if steam could divert some of that artifact money to making the desktop client not trash.
Epic Game Store is the only one of the four clients I have installed (Steam, Battle.Net, and Origin are the others) that does not let you set download bandwidth limits of some kind.
By rerixo Go To Postthat sounds good until you realise it took valve 15 years to develop those featuresThe only one of those features that I listed across those three posts that other clients have is bandwidth limiting.
By Laboured Go To PostSounds like rerixo knows of a client that is better and now I'm waiting for him to post it.Lmao
I'm still waiting for lfmartins to come back. He didn't the last time he shitpost about steam.
By Laboured Go To PostNothing is good.Should be the fucking thread title
Even if Sony buys Take Two I think it would be something like making them part of an asset than turning them into a first party + PC company.
By rerixo Go To Postthat sounds good until you realise it took valve 15 years to develop those featuresYep, and it's there, compared to other competitors.
Again, I'm not saying it can't be improved but what's a better PC gaming client?
I'm seriously not sure about which part of the client is slow.
more features =/= good software
i already said steam is bloated to shit, every other client wins by default
i think the more interesting converstion to be had here is the one around the psychological manipulation by monopolies

By rerixo Go To Postmy favourite thing about steam fanboys are the excuses they come up with "wah wah wah how can i play my games without steam trading cards?!"

Hell, Im using a 7 year old i7 2600 with 11gb of 1333 ram so if it really is slow Id probably be the first to notice it among you lads.

It doesn’t matter if it took 15 years or 50, they’ve set the standard and the competing launchers aren’t up to that standard.
What the competition do have is a lot of money to throw at publishers/developers to gain exclusivity to a game for 12 months, instead of pumping that money into making a fully featured launcher.
By Smokey Go To PostThe best thing about having an Xbox is not playing Xbox games!
MS really is going batshit crazy with this software shit.
Meanwhile you still can't change your name on PSN.
GoG still the best launcher I have on my pc, fast, not a memory slut and has great games on it. Steam is a close second.
Origin, Uplay, Epic, the rest, can all die in a fire.
Origin, Uplay, Epic, the rest, can all die in a fire.
funniest thing about origin is how it's often recommended to shut all the ingame and overlay stuff off
steam is by far the most mature out of all pc game clients and thus has the biggest featureset + most of us have all of our shit there. the issue is that it's still a trashfire from a basic ui/usability standpoint.
kibner mentioned steam workshop, hell yeah lets take a look at some xcom 2 mods:
*fart noise*
lmao at this usage of space, who cares if steam can give proctology exams if you need to wade through a river of shit to get there.
other things wrong with steam:
overlay is garbage, try playing a youtube video on there lol
filtering options still paltry given how much trash is on the store
way too many steps needed to access certain features, again this is due to the garbage ui
in terms of basic usability, gog galaxy is so much better than steam but they're operating on a smaller scale so they're not serious competition. uplay and origin are basically publisher vessels and not real launchers/storefronts.
i dont have any infatuation with steam or any other storefront cause its literally just three extra clicks and unlike console exclusives, its no additional hardware/software cost to me. if there's something i really want that's exclusive on egs, i'll play it there and get on with my life.

By Smokey Go To PostSony has enough money to buy Take Two? Them PS+ subs must be off the charts .Doubt it, Take Two's market cap is 10B+, which is over double any previous Sony acquisition.

By SUPER YARAK Go To PostLmaoIt constantly asks for updates, starting a game is slower than all other launchers and I don't like the UI.

Well I feel we got to the bottom of the unfounded Steam hate coursing through Slaent. It is indeed unfounded.

Which store front is moneyhatting games so they can only be bought via their store front at their set prices and which store front lets you buy keys elsewhere and redeem them on their launcher without taking a cut from the sales?
Now which one is the monopoly again?
