By Adam Go To PostY'all got tips on cleaning a gpu? Mine has gotten pretty dusty.
Run it under a tap and peg it out on the clothes line.
Compressed air, microfibre cloth, a small brush.
Disassemble the card and remove fans/shroud if possible. Clean out the finstack with the air and a brush. Use the cloth on the fan blades.
If it’s only a little dusty, just use the compressed air.
Thanks guys.
I'll use like the compressed air and cloth or brush.
Vapes' method seems intense. I don't trust myself taking apart a gpu.

It’s really easy tbh. Loads of tear down videos on YT of the chonky boi MSI card you have. Wouldn’t like to take a FE apart for cleaning tho.
I would only recommend doing it if there’s a lot of dust built up in the finstack mind. That and if you’ve had it for long enough that it’d benefit from a repaste.

Thanks. Seems like it's mainly on the gpu fans.

Talks about the MSI IPS 240hz panel against the Alienware 240hz TN.
Glad to see more and more of this. TN panels are fast but once you get used to an IPS, for colors at least, it's a bit hard to go back. Alienware does have a refreshed 240hz IPS panel that just came out. Really want to mess around with one of these high refresh panels.
I like that he gives both objective and subjective opinions while clearly separating the two and even says at the end that he is not good enough at these games say whether the relatively small difference in response time is noticeable for those at the really high end of skill.

I appreciate the video! It both frightens and excites me. I think Jay put it best in that watercooling is just another hobby.

9+ months on water. Zero maintenance thus far, no growth or particles that I've seen in the CPU block or reservoir, can't see the GPU block to check. I was fucking thorough with cleaning the radiators out prior though, along with flushing the loop through with a Mayhems cleaning kit and distilled water afterwards. I do need to top up my reservoir soon tho, it's just over halfway.
Radiators from what I read quite often come with some residue and particles left over from the manufacturing process still inside them and require a good clean to remove all that. The recommendation I went with was using a mix of distilled vinegar and water, part filling the radiator, closing the ports and giving it a good shake. Repeating that process several times and then using just distilled water afterwards to clean out the vinegar.
The Mayhems Blitz cleaning kit I used was probably overkill and it was heavily not recommended across the web, but I went for it anyway because I really didn't want an algae farm growing in my PC and I was paranoid that it would happen.
I think I used the part 2 kit, I ran that through the completed loop for a couple hours, then drained it as best I could. Rinsed it out afterwards with 5 or so distilled water flushes. Then used the clear EK fluid that already had biocides and all that good stuff mixed it.
Cleaned my PC today and applied some Thermal Grizzly paste to my H115i Plat cooler. Set out once again to hit 5ghz. Seemed to be successful, at least in gaming. On the desktop the clock speed is fluctuating all over the place. When I run Cinebench, it doesn't actually stay at 5ghz. Seems like it's throttling? I played two rounds of MW though, set at 1080p, and the OSD showed 5ghz at a lock.
Any idea what could be causing the Cinebench result? I've googled and unlocked the thermal constraints as far as I can tell (Maximus XI Extreme).

By diehard Go To PostCinebench R20? do you have an AVX offset? What temps are you hitting?
Looks like Cinebench R15. I didn't set anything for AVX offset in the BIOS. In DOOM Eternal it was the same result as MW, 5ghz on all cores, presumably because games don't use AVX?
I haven't had a crash in either game. From what I was reading Prime 26.6 is the last one without AVX by default? I ran the one I had for kicks and I got a few cores in the 90s, and I ended up closing it down. In gaming though, as you can see from the screenshot, it hovers around the 60s.
Here's what I've got for settings:
Notice to the right the voltages they say I'd need for 5ghz, non AVX. Much lower than what I currently have it set at. Also 180 rating for a cooler is really good. Of course this is all based on their AI or whatever, but from the baseline it's giving me, I should be good.
edit: Went back into BIOS and changed AVX offset to 0 instead of Auto. Ran at 5ghz for a bit, and then dropped down to about 4.7ghz during Cinebench R20. Temps during the run:

Yeah you don't have an AVX offset and I dont think R15 uses it anyway. Is that stable in R20 or newer Prim95's? 5GHz AVX + 1.3v + level 7 LLC would be a lot of heat.
Can you pull out hwinfo64 and let it run while doing cinebench?
edit: ok you added that. Do you have all power management in Windows disabled?

Power in Windows was set to Balanced, instead of High Performance. Maybe Intel Speedstep is also causing the clocks to vary, with it being enabled?
I downloaded and ran Cinebench R20 after you mentioned it, and that's what I posted in my previous post.
I do plan to go to Adaptive voltage so it doesn't stay at 1.3v.

Yep that can cause some issues, see if it fixes anything..
Don't worry too much about getting adaptive voltages to work, i think people spend too much time on it. You are only raising the floor of power usage (and not by very much) by dynamically lowering the voltages because either way the CPU+VRM will only use the amperage it needs.
If you are really stable at 5.0 AVX then there is a decent chance you could apply a small offset and still be stable at 5.0 on everything else with a lower voltage.

I agree about Adaptive. This was actually the first CPU I was going to use it on. My others I've left it at manual after dialing it in, and called it a day. They didn't put out the amount of heat the 9900k does, but I think I'm gonna rock with manual as I have in the past.
Still dropped to 4.7ghz during Cinebench. Speedstep disabled, Windows set to High Performance. On the latest BIOS. I exit Cinebench and on the desktop it says at 4.9ghz - 5ghz. The wild dips I was seeing before are gone with Speedstep disabled.
Not sure what else it could be
I think its something to do with power limits.. somewhere.
Can you run it while Intel XTU is running? It might give you a throttle reason.

Same with OCCT, w/ no AVX. Definitely being throttled somewhere, even with all of the changes:
But during gaming it stays solid at 5ghz? I'll check out XTU.

Could be your current capability, it's only set to 140%. Does it not go higher on your board, i.e. 200%?
Edit: Been looking into it, found this Der8auer video with an Asus board. Might help out.

I followed this video before. No, mine doesn't go to 200%. I'm on the latest BIOS, maybe they took that high setting out in the newer revisions. Der8auer is also using the same setup as me. If you remember some time ago, I said my temps were really high when I was going for 5ghz, and that I wondered if my heatsink was loose a bit. I bought the Thermal Grizzly paste, but didn't use it until today. This was the video I was following at the time.
Funny enough, I upped the voltage in the BIOS to 1.32v...and...that seems to have solved it?
Maybe it wasn't enough at the previous 1.31v when taking into account VDROOP? CPU-Z shows the voltage at 1.288v in the image above.
I did multiple Cinebench R20 and Cinebench R15 runs, and it stayed at 4.9ghz - 5.0ghz the entire time, no crashes.

I know a guy that brings a tupperware box to work with an Asus ROG sticker on it.
How is he still employed tbh
The only stickers on my gear are the ones from checking my stuff in at QuakeCon. I don't bother to take them off after the event because I like to think of them as mementos.

oh you thought i forgot?
Not even mad, impressed you got the GPU score 200~ points clear of mine on a dual slot cooler. See if I get the free time to dial my shit in and I'll be back.
Finally started on my pc build and wtf!
Wtf is this shit?
Not trying to run windows but im going to have to because I refuse to learn command line.
Rate my early pc build:
Hzxt 210i case
Motherboard: MSI B450I
CPU: ryzen 5 3600
GPU: Either rtx 2060 or 1660 S
PSU: Undecided
Storage: 2 tb (undecided)
Ram: 32 gigs
Windows 10 costs $140???
Cooling: 4 Nocturna fans minimum
LG 25UM58-P 25" is the monitor Ive owned for two years.
Do I really need the 2060 gtx jawn for the monitor I use? I wanted an itx era but it adds almost $100 to the build.
Im sticking with consoles so this is more of a backup game station/content creation place.

I don't recommend it. GPU temps tend to suffer with an ATX PSU. For a traditional layout case on the smaller side I'd recommend the Lian Li TU150, or if you want something smaller then the NZXT H1 isn't a terrible buy but you're by no means getting a good deal out of the included PSU and cooler.
Motherboard: MSI B450I
CPU: ryzen 5 3600
Both good choices.
GPU: Either rtx 2060 or 1660 S
Depends on your budget. If you can get one of the RTX 2060 KO models, then go for it, but given you've only got a 60hz, 2560x1080p monitor the 1660S might be absolutely fine.
PSU: Undecided
Corsair's SF range are fantastic. The SF450 would be more than enough for you. For ATX units, I'd recommend an EVGA or Seasonic branded 500Wish model. Preferably modular.
Storage: 2 tb (undecided)

Why so much?
Windows 10 costs $140???
Not if you buy a cheap OEM key.
Cooling: 4 Nocturna fans minimum
I love Noctua fans, but if your budget is tight then you should reconsider this. For instance, you've not listed a CPU cooler but are done to spend £40-£100 on Noctua fans.
