Ahh, I didn't realize his post was in response to mine. Noted! I'll go and pick this thing up tomorrow.
Got the PC. Missed the $150 discount on it that ended yesterday, really pissed about that. But this thing is a monster so far. Loads work shit crazy quick. Also came with a gaming keyboard and mouse, which I don't really need at the moment. But it's nice.
Thought I snagged a boss deal then. An EK D5 pump for £70 instead of the usual £110.
Then I realised after ordering it was a refurb. Feel disgusted.

damn that looks quite good. gpu thermals kinda suck though, and i don't care about tempered glass so would have much preferred another vented panel. also it's begging to be knocked over. but cool to see a sff case you'll actually be able to purchase, very innovative.
Sadly, NZXT are completely incapable of making an ITX case with good GPU airflow. Track record for it and everything.
Nice to see a big case manufacturer finally throw their hat in the game tho.

By Kibner Go To PostThat O11 Mini needs to come out…Fiending to get whet?
By HonestVapes Go To PostFiending to get whet?Yeah. I want to learn and build something new.
By Kibner Go To PostYeah. I want to learn and build something new. It's good shit. Definitely the most challenging bit of PC building I've done, even with soft tubes. So fucking rewarding when it's all finished though.
Why wait for the O11 Mini instead of just going with the O11 though? Always figured you'd be the type to actually use the extra PCIE slots on a ATX board.

What about an SV590? Only fits a single 360mm rad or one particular 420mm rad (Corsair 420mm, which is just a rebranded HWL rad), but it'll be less than half the size of the O11 Mini, and a much smaller desk foot print. Still fits a D5 pump too.
420mm rad, 3x Noctua 140mm fans, D5. Should be more than enough to keep temps in check while keeping noise down.

Only thing that puts me off it is the the cables coming out the top. It’s a a shame there’s no elegant way to solve that issue with a vertical layout case, either they come out the top or the bottom. No clean way to route the cables with either.
Other than that, it’s a solid case. Sliger make quality stuff. I believe they do all their manufacturing in America too, if that’s worth anything to you.
Yeah, I remember looking up Sliger before (maybe on your recommendation?). They definitely make things that have me interested. I'll wait until the O11 Mini comes out and reviewed by reputable people so I can see where I stand on it. I like the massive amount of liquid cooling it supports, the modularity, and that it is transparent (all my current and previous cases have been blocked out all the way around and have had sound-insulating foam on the edges).
Ordered a pair of Sceptre monitors for work. $150 a pop on Amazon, nothing crazy. 24", 165hz, 5ms & 1ms so they're surprisingly decent for gaming too. Might try an FPS or two on this new PC. Playing Blackout in COD with a Dual Shock 4 is a nightmare. After my days of R6 Rogue Spear and Unreal Tournament on the PC using a KB+Mouse, it's difficult to play FPS any other way.
built a new rig, shit is working fine

That's super odd. What mobo? Basic stuff like USB, wi-fi and ethernet should be installed by default.
By Zabojnik Go To PostHow is that even possible? Last time I installed USB related drivers … must've been 10 years ago.
I’ve never had it happen with USB drivers, but when I built a PC with the ASRock Pro4 B350, i needed to download the drivers for WiFi and Ethernet on a different PC and transfer them over.
Don’t recall the same occurring with the ASRock Z390i PG I have now or the previous Asus B350i though. Both just werked.

Laboured also decided to buy a pre-built.
Ahhh. I don't mind one bit. It has terrific internals. 4 slots for RAM upgrades. 3 fans. Glass and aluminum case. Really nice power supply too. It's basically exactly what the guys here recommended for me. When I priced it all out separately, it cost more than what I paid for it. And from Best Buy of all places.
By diehard Go To Postif you are feeling up to it sometime, i would recommend replacing the CPU cooler.
It's liquid cooled, though.
Never thought HardwareCanucks would be the reviewer to straight up shit on Corsair’s aircooler, but they went all in. Fucked the fan rails off, zip tied on Noctua’s, lapped the base.
I’d expect it from GN, but always considered HC to be b roll and light entertainment

Maybe due to not enough heatpipes or their efficiency since the fins aren't heating up as they should be. Either way, that cooler is just not moving heat away from the CPU quickly enough.

Well, the TDP listed on the box for all sorts of different coolers is usually bullshit in fairness. They don't usually test their ratings with an actual CPU either. Even if they did you could have a 9900K, 3950X and a 1090XE all pulling 250w, but the cooler will not handle them all evenly due to the different die sizes, how much surface area there there is to the IHS, even the difference in mounting pressure.
Not to bang on about SFF shit, but it's even worse with low profile heatsinks claiming they can cool XXTDP and being nowhere near capable of doing so.
That's really good to know! Thanks for sharing.
e: sometimes it takes the outliers (like sff) to really notice some deficiencies

Another thing worth pointing is GPU cooling compared to CPU cooling. Like the 2080Ti pulling 250W is substantially easier to cool than a 9900K drawing 180w. Partly because GPU cooling is generally always direct die mounted, and partly also because a GPU die is much larger than a CPU die. Just for the sake of the discussion though, I'm absolutely positive that if one of those Corsair coolers were strapped to a 2080Ti it would cool it without getting close to 80c. It has much more mass to the heatsink than this MSI card's cooler, yet they both only have 4 heatpipes.
There's just a fucking lot of minutiae to heatsinks and cooling, but not a whole lot of discussion surrounding all the details to it.
Also not to bang on about Noctua either, but their compatibility listing are actually the best I've ever seen when determining which of their coolers can adequately cool which CPUs and even at what power limit, MCE on/off and so on.
Seriously, look how detailed this is https://noctua.at/en/support/compatibility-lists/cpu
Pick the CPU from the list, and then it'll give you the full low down on which of their coolers will work and what restriction may apply to it. So much better than a vague TDP rating on the box.
