By diehard Go To PostI actually don't run extended SMART tests at all and iXSystems doesn't set them up by default either. Once a month would be totally acceptable, IMO.
you work for ix ?
🤔

Got some new ram over black friday. My machine doesn't want to boot with all 4 sticks in :/
Will try a bios reset, but that sucks. Been able to run either pair by themselves, just not in conjunction

What cpu? If it is a Ryzen 7000 series, you may need to lower clicks. Iirc, it has different supported stick speeds for 2 vs 4 sticks.
By JesalR Go To PostIt's Intel (11700k)A few questions:
1) which motherboard?
2) did you try putting the sticks in A1+B1 to make sure those slots are ok? (A2+B2 is the typical default to use)
3) are these 4 matched sticks that came from a single kit or did you buy 2 pairs of sticks? this can actually make a difference
4) what speed are they running at? I see the max supported speed of the 11700k is 3200. jedec ddr4 maxes out at that same speed, but it would still be nice to confirm

Haven’t tried that yet
Matched sticks, but bought at different times. They’re all the exact same model though
They’re running at and rated 3600 with XMP on (CPU-Z says 1800 but my understanding is that I should expect the frequency to by half because it’s dual channel?)
By JesalR Go To PostGigabyte gaming x z590If they are running at 1800/3600, then XMP or DOCP is enabled. It should be reading 1600/3200. That is the highest the jedec spec goes, which is what ram reverts back to if you don't have an OC profile enabled.

Ah, I meant that’s what I have them running at when I only have two sticks in. I disabled XMP/reset the bios, but wasn’t able to see the frequency because I couldn’t get back to the bios with all four sticks

I haven't looked into the motherboard, but is the amount of memory you are plugging in less than the motherboard's supported max? Maybe the manual has some notes about 4 sticks of memory?
If all that looks good, you might have just lost the CPU memory controller lottery. Maybe consider filing an RMA for the CPU to get a better one.

Really small and incredibly light mouse for $50: https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-m4-wireless-mouse
It's by Keychron, though, so buy through Amazon or somewhere that has good return/exchange policies because Keychron's CS is the fucking worst.
just had an annoying scare where my PC asked me to restart to fix a disk error, then went into a loop of blue-screening with a 0xC000021A stop code and trying to automatically repair the SSD. Had to uninstall the latest windows quality update to get around it. PITA. Drive health is fine.

Great video and an even better article about perceived blacks. Nothing monitor nit nerds didn't already know about, but it's nice to see some proper measurements and numbers.
WOLED Glossy ftw, death to matte coatings.
Got sucked into the custom mech keyboard black hole again ... it's actually crazy how much this hobby still relies on sketchy group buys.

It might not be driver related but something else. Regardless, lots of people are reportedly being falsely VAC banned.
I've scoured the net and found that everything is either out of stock or (way) out of my budget. Think I'm gonna get the MonsGeek M1W SP for now.
Should make for a pleasant typing experience with a couple of mods and upgrades. Might even use it wireless, if the 2.4Ghz is up to snuff.

It might be common knowledge already, but just in case - you can now update the firmware on Alienware AW3423DW monitors. Looks like Nvidia and Dell figured out a way to do it via DisplayPort.

Looks like Nvidia and Dell figured out a way to do it via DisplayPort.I'm getting more and more tempted to get that monitor but still holding out due to subpixel stuff since it would primarily be used to read and manipulate text. The burn in would be an issue but it has a 3 year warranty for it so I'm not as worried about that part.
My brother's DWF is still going strong. I'd recommend going with the cheaper F variant, it's basically the same monitor and can be made to run at 165hz full chroma with a quick EDID edit.
Can't speak for text clarity. It's been a complete non issue for me on both QD-OLED and WOLED panels, but that's my eyeballs.

It was definitely something I noticed the very first time I used it and then basically never again after that.
I use it for games but also as a work monitor (software engineering, text heavy applications) and honestly haven’t felt like it’s been an issue at all. YMMV and all that, but first blush in a best buy might not be a lasting impression

Which one of you has been watching "actually, Ray Tracing is bad and worse than prebaked lighting" videos that are flooding my algorithm?

Seems like Timothy Lottes has been developing a new graphics scaling solution that works well on everything from mobile hardware up to big GPUs.

By Zabojnik Go To PostI've seen some back and forth on whether this will actually happen or not. I'm still debating whether to get some SATA SSD's for my NAS. Haven't really needed them, yet.
In case you were on the fence, better jump on one of them sticks.
So im exploring the idea of a dual GPU for deep fakes,
dumb question, but possible to have 2nd GPU off while not in use?
I have a 3090 atm, but maybe thinking of getting a 4090 as well.

Not that I'm aware of.
e: also, keep in mind that there is no sli bridge thing or anything anymore; the software will have to be able to recognize and use two separate gpu's at once without an interlink between them

I'm using deepface lab.
There's an option to use whatever GPUs are available.
But it seems like the faster GPU will be throttled by the slower one but the added Vram will help immensely with faster learning time.

By Kibner Go To Post27" 4k OLED with high refresh rate, a good warranty, and good text display and I might bite.No price too high? Because...
I did the 27'' 4k thing with the PG27UQ. It was great, fan aside, but I distinctly remember thinking it was too small for those amount of pixels, and a 32'' with 4k would be perfect.
Curious to see if we get any updates to the 42'' monitors.

By Smokey Go To PostCurious to see if we get any updates to the 42'' monitors.LG's 2024 42"+ panels will go up to 144hz, MLA is very, very unlikely to be featured on anything other than the G-series of TVs.
I'd be very surprised, if they had custom panels of that size with better specs for the monitor segment, although they could certainly use any tech they have in upcoming battle against Samsung's QD-OLED offerings ...

My PG42UQ does 138hz now, and I lock it at 135hz for Gsync purposes. The 4090 has no problem hitting that. 144hz wouldn't be a big enough jump for me, but 240hz...
