Looking for a cheap 500gb nvme for the entertainment@work PC I'm putting together ... had no idea Intel released the successor to the 660p.
Don't think I can do much better for 45€.

Held out on updating to V032 firmware for my PG42UQ, and for good reason. Asus eventually pulled it. They put up V033 last week and after observing Reddit impressions I updated yesterday. Took about 15 (!) minutes. But the 138hz bug has been fixed. If the monitor went to sleep at 138hz, it wouldn't wake up. A power cycle was the only option. I stayed at 120hz since getting the monitor for that reason. The additional responsiveness is appreciated. It also seems to be a bit brighter.
Still really like the monitor along with its size. Seems like V033 is a solid update and should be shipping on any new PG42UQs. I've noticed it's been a while since you could even find them in stock. Wouldn't rule out the firmware issues being a cause, they were getting a ton of blowback.

What kind of 12VHPWR cable are you using? Did you end up just keeping the 12900k? Good luck with the upgrades.

Yeah kept the 12900k and cancelled the 13900k. Gonna keep an eye out for the KS variant that’s supposed to hit in a few months.
Who's ready for the new Crysis (Portal RTX) in 2 days?
Looking forward to running this at 4K max settings with DLSS on my 3090

By Freewheelin Go To PostI wonder if it will run on Steam Deck at all lol0.1 FPS probably will in 720p
If you played Fallout 3 on the PS3 then Portal with 1 fps will feel fine
I remember one of my friends was such a diehard Sony fanboy he refused to play anything on any other platform unless it was exclusive. Fallout 3 killed 3 PS3s despite him having a PC good enough to run Crysis decently.

does the deck even support RTX?
Can always play the non-rtx version and it'd probably run 60fps+ on deck.
By Patriotism Go To Postdoes the deck even support RTX?Old Portal indeed runs like butter on the SD, as does HL2.

I don’t know if the Deck’s RDNA cores support ray tracing though. The options were completely unselectable in Cyberpunk so I’m guessing not.

I need more like Portal RTX

I think Fractal win best looking cases for the year with their latest two. The North ATX case and the Ridge SFF case both have me tempted to ditch my Lian Li Q37
The black and walnut case looks better but I can’t be arsed clicking through their site to link it

I was actually planning to get a couple acupanel’s for my living room, which the North case’s front panel is very similar in design to.
I was contemplating getting the Ridge and just downsizing my PC so it was suitable for a living room set up but I’m really considering getting the black and walnut North instead since it would just blend in with the decor I’m going with. It would ruin my plans to just use a shelf under the TV in lieu of a media cabinet though.

7950x3d supposedly 30% faster than 13900k: https://www.hardwaretimes.com/amd-ryzen-9-7950x3d-coming-in-jan-2023-30-faster-than-the-intel-core-i9-13900k-courtesy-of-200mb-cache-rumor/amp/

I do plan on getting that 7950x3d, but I want to be able to source some ECC ddr5 ram and an am5 motherboard that supports it, first.

By reilo Go To PostAye, as i've been telling the lads, there are multiple handhelds running with 6800U in them. Unfortunately they cost double of what the Steam Deck costs.

It really is the perfect 27" resolution for gaming tho.
I have this PSU “preordered” (aka back ordered) at Newegg for quite some time. Hopefully it releases fairly soon.

By Batong Go To PostAye, as i've been telling the lads, there are multiple handhelds running with 6800U in them. Unfortunately they cost double of what the Steam Deck costs. That’s the biggest killer when it comes to these portable Windows PCs. The competition in terms of performance is great (although I wouldn’t want to hold on to a unit that’s dissipating 20w+), but there’s just no competing with Valve on price currently. £350 for the basic Deck and an SD for £40~ is just absurd value compared everything else available.
By Batong Go To PostAye, as i've been telling the lads, there are multiple handhelds running with 6800U in them. Unfortunately they cost double of what the Steam Deck costs.I'm not sure I'd want a 30% faster portable, only to have to run it at 1080p instead of 720p, because that's what the native res is, thus nullifying any fps gains and possibly even losing frames compared to the Deck. There's FSR, I suppose, and other use case scenarios, but eh.
I don't imagine the software integration is anywhere near as nice as the Deck's, either. But I am definitely uneducated on this point.
Do all those other units also have touchscreens and haptic touchpads? Because those control options are also super important aspects of the Deck.

Just finished playing Portal RTX on my 3090. I played at 4K with maxed out settings and balanced DLSS and had a great time. For fun I turned off DLSS and saw it run in slideshow mode lol. As far as VRAM usage with DLSS off I saw it use the entire 24gb at one point and with it on I saw it use up to 80% (19.2gb) of VRAM. All in all it was a very cool ray tracing showcase and I can't wait to see RTX Remix added to more classic games (I hope someone does Oblivion or Unreal Tournament 2004).
It’s amazing. Turning light bounces up to 8 is just gorgeous. DLSS3 works much better than I thought it would too.
So, lads. I had a spot of bother building my new rig. Had everything on and turning as should be but no video. Did tests and still nothing. Then I spotted a CPU light on the board and promptly made sure everything was plugged in. Even did a BIOS update.
Turned out to be bent pins on the board.
Good news, though. Got a replacement and after 1 BSOD whilst installing W11, I’m running memtest for the last hour or so and it’s all good so far.

7900XTX reviews are out. Rasterization is ahead of the 4080 and, at worst, tied. RT performance relative to the 4080 depends on title, but the 4080 pulls ahead by ~40% in the worst case (for AMD) and ~10% in the best case.
