Finally sent the parts off to my mate for his PC. Shaping up to be a good build for him.
I've give him my 9900K, ASRock Z390 ITX board, a 1TB MX500 M.2 SSD, Noctua D9L and NCase M1 V5.
He's bought a Palit Dual OC 3060Ti, 3200mhz 8x2GB Crucial RAM and a Silverstone 800W SFX-L PSU. Think he's getting a couple fans for the bottom of the case too.

By Kibner Go To PostI am looking for a good monitor to get my gf for her birthday. What are my options with this criteria? Or is there a good place for me to search (like RTings)?I think this is a good guide
- ~700 USD (about the same price as my Acer Predator a few years ago)
- GSync
- 27 inch(ish)
- 1080p or 1440p
- 120+ hz
- great color accuracy
A good implementation of HDR would be a nice bonus, but not required.
This one seems like a great option for your needs

Interesting to see videocard prices dropping. On reddit you've got used 3090's going for like $1300-$1350. I remember when people were paying $3k+
By Kibner Go To Postappreciate it!Any reason not to go 34'' ultrawide? It's just like a 27'' stretched out gives you more options.
By diehard Go To PostAny reason not to go 34'' ultrawide? It's just like a 27'' stretched out gives you more options. She has a 3060ti and I'm not confident it can drive that particularly well. And she is the type of person where the black borders in unsupported games would bother her.
There are also ASUS pro art monitors in that range (27" 144hz) with great colour accuracy, though worse response times.

We just need it to be good enough that it won't be annoying to go back and forth from one to the other.
New cards in mid July would be a huge surprise but with more info getting leaked including the 4090 heatsink it’s starting to sound believable. Feels like the 3090 Ti JUST came out. My 3090 still does everything I need it to do at 4K so I’ll probably skip next gen if it’s launching this soon. I’m looking forward to the benchmarks though.
Ascension has finally happened
In other news, Phill built his PC and I’m proud of him honestly but
I swear I recommended Arctic fans to him and he bought Noctua’s instead. Man’s spent 3x the price of postage for all the parts I sent him on damn fans

He built that PC on turbo hard mode. Pls understand.
First PC build and he ended up with one of the most compact ITX cases and an SFX-L PSU with the stiffest cables on the market. Currently he's trying to create a Windows boot drive with a Chromebook. I swear I asked him if he had access to a Windows laptop or PC to create the boot drive and he said yes.

Wonder how that happened.
I do love the cat mouse feet. My gf loves them so much she told me to ask you where you got them from. 😂

I'm not sure if they ship to the USA, but they don't ship to the UK. Had to get them sent to Ireland then posted to me.
I’m kinda tempted to buy a 10850k or 10900k and then turn around and sell my 10700k to get 2 more cores for minimal cost. That would be investing in a platform 2 generations old though. Hmm
They don’t feel massively different over the stock feet honestly, but they do have a floaty feel to them that could be a good or bad thing.
When I plant my wrist into the pad for more control and finer movement, the glide doesn’t change. It still feels just as smooth as it does when I’m aiming normally.
I still have more control for finer movements, it just feels very floaty at the same time. In games, really not an issue. On the desktop at 1000DPI, it doesn’t feel great honestly.
That’s fine by me since I switch between the Superlight and a G502 for games/browsing. I don’t think I’d enjoy using these feet outside of games daily though.

Day 3 of Phill's PC build.
He couldn't make a bootable Windows drive with a Chromebook. Is now attempting to do it through his phone.
First hurdle is the app and USB stick needs to be FAT32 which has a 4GB file limit and the Windows ISO is over 4GB. Now he's attempting to split the file up into smaller parts with winrar to transfer it over. This is the hardest build I have ever seen play out.
EDIT: 64bit Windows iso is over 4GB, 32bit Windows iso is under 4GB. He's on for installing 32bit then using the Windows PC to create a 64bit installation. 500IQ plays

By Pedja Go To PostWhy does Phil want to do things the most difficult and annoying way possible? He's Welsh.

USB Boot through the phone worked, but he tried it with Win11 and it's saying the PC doesn't meet the requirements. lmao
Talked him through enabling TPM2 and Secure Boot, now he's got Windows 11 installed but he had to remove the GPU and connect the HDMI to the motherboard to get a display while in the BIOS.
Reckon that may just be a driver issue and now he's on Windows, he can install the Nvidia drivers and it'll work when he puts the GPU back in?

After hours of back and forth troubleshooting, it just started working randomly.
Edit: Not working. He didn’t realise he left the cable in the motherboard HDMI port, which does work. The GPU itself is seemingly getting no power.
Not lighting up, not detected in Windows or BIOS.
Power cable firmly connected, definitely fully seated in PCIE slot.

HE FUCKING LIED
I went back through the pics of the build to double check everything and I realised the PCIE cable wasn't fully seated. He had it in upside down.
It's getting power now and displaying on his monitor when connected to the GPU.
He can take apart a PS4 to repaste it without a guide, but needed 1-1 remote tech support to build a PC.
My Playstation Siege bro is a PC Siege bro now though and that's all that matters.

How often do you have to perform maintenance on a water cooling loop? Also, when you do maintenance, in addition to draining and refilling the loop do you also need to remove and clean out the radiators and blocks?
By Celcius Go To PostHow often do you have to perform maintenance on a water cooling loop? Also, when you do maintenance, in addition to draining and refilling the loop do you also need to remove and clean out the radiators and blocks?I change the liquid around once a year. Assuming no issues and that you're using a clear fluid, you could get away with once every 2 years.
The main reasons you would need to clean out the blocks and radiators is if there's an issue in the loop. If you use an opaque coolant, the colour will fall out of the fluid over time and get caught up in the fins on the blocks.
Algae/growth in the loop is another reason you'd need to tear it all down and do a full clean. Though if you do get algae in your loop (like I did last year), it's 100% user error and you'd only have yourself to blame. Just be thorough when you prep the loop components, clean them all out with distilled water prior to assembly and flush the loop with distilled a few times before putting in your coolant.
Welp, the embedded battery controller in my old-ass Lenovo laptop doesn't like this third-party battery I bought. Time to refund it. :(

From what I’ve been reading, Cordura pads are supposed to be ideal with glass mouse feet. I’ve not had this Razer pad for long but I’m thinking of moving on to whatever Cordura pad I can find for a good price.
Pulsar Paraspeed is seemingly the best fit, but End Game Gear and Coolermaster have good Cordura pads too.
Definitely feel a huge difference in confidence with my aim with the Superlight and glass feet as is though. Some of the shots I’ve been hitting have been, to quote Wooden, CUMMY.
Somewhat weirdly though, despite the glide feeling smoother now that they did with the stock feet. I had to turn my sensitivity up. Went from a 50cm 360 to 44cm 360. Just didn’t feel comfortable at 50cm despite playing at that setting for a long time.

Ryzen 7000 actually seems a bit disappointing. I'm probably still looking at Raptor Lake to replace my 8700k.
By diehard Go To PostRyzen 7000 actually seems a bit disappointing. I'm probably still looking at Raptor Laker to replace my 8700k.Aye. I'm going to wait for the next large core jump and then, hopefully and finally, retire my current build to be a really awesome home server.
