By HonestVapes Go To PostNoctua have some compI'm gonna need Tech Jesus to validate these results with that fancy professional fan testing machine that costs more than the entirety of my savings.
Impressive results tho. I was planning to finally go all Noctua with my next build, maybe not.

Just more surface area on the blades to scoop in air.

If the motor was wider, then it’d limit airflow. Which is what caused EK’s 38mm thick Meltemi fans to perform comparatively poorly.
what's so special about the manufacturing of these expensive fans? can't someone just 3d print them and sell them for a fiver?
By rerixo Go To Postwhat's so special about the manufacturing of these expensive fans? can't someone just 3d print them and sell them for a fiver? It's something spinning at 2000RPM for tens of thousands of hours, precision manufacturing is required.
By rerixo Go To Postwhat's so special about the manufacturing of these expensive fans? can't someone just 3d print them and sell them for a fiver?Tight tolerances for clearance are required between frames and fan blades. Plastics used have to be specialised so that the outwards force of them spinning doesn’t cause the blades to stretch, etc. There’s a fucking lot that goes into fan design. However you can get like 95% of the way there with some Arctic P12/P14s for less than 10 quid a piece.

In terms of comfort/ergonomics, do you have your screens so the top of the monitor is roughly eye level or so the centre of the monitor is eye level?
I’ve always felt having the centre at eye level is most comfortable so that I’m not looking downward at the screen. Found it kept my overall posture while sitting down at my desk more neutral.
However I recently found out that having the top of the screen at roughly eye level is the “correct” positioning and that I’ve been living a lie.

Top of the monitor at roughtly eye level, possibly slightly below ever since I added a second / top monitor (which is nightmare ergonomics-wise).
Always found it be indeed the best position in terms of ergonomics and eyestrain relief. That's how you should ideally read books as well.

Eye level is 1/3 from the top of the screen, so it is closer to the top than the bottom. That is what I have read elsewhere and it seems to do the trick for me. If my eyes are at the top, I have to look down too much. But if they were lower, I have to look up more and that is more difficult.
Ran hwinfo during an hour or so of apex in my admittedly warm office room. Hit 39c at lowest temps, 79c at highest, averaged out 63c. Supposedly normal operation for this proc so I might just look to get a more silent cpu fan initially
If your cpu isn't throttling on "normal" levels of cooling, then the chip is fine. Changing fans and /or cooler to something that is easier on your ears is the way to go.
The cpu's now will push their thermal and power limits to get as much performance as they can get without overheating. It makes them run "hotter" but only because they allow themselves to.
If this has already been said, sorry. I'm sick and it's early.

Well then.
Alchemist, the first generation of Intel Arc products, will feature hardware-based ray tracing and artificial intelligence-driven super sampling, and offer full support for DirectX 12 Ultimate.

if intel come in with a lot of supply then maybe i'd give em a try even if they're only at like 3070 level
unless they end up competing for the same fabs...

By rerixo Go To Postif intel come in with a lot of supply then maybe i'd give em a try even if they're only at like 3070 levelIntel owns their own TMSC fabs, iirc, so they aren't competing with other companies for them the same way AMD and Nvidia are. And, yeah, their top-end card is projected to be at 3070 level.
unless they end up competing for the same fabs…
I'm not interested yet, but if the beginning for their entry into this market is as decently competent as they are proposing then it's way more than I was expecting.
I’m more interested in the lower end from Intel’s GPU line up seeing as Nvidia and AMD have got anything new in the sub-£300 range.
By Laboured Go To PostWell then. What does this mean @zabo @vapes
Like a new competitor for Nvidia/AMD?
By Batong Go To PostWhat about DLSS 🤔They did mention an AI-driven upscaler being a supported feature. Who knows what exactly they mean by that or if it is any good, though.
By FootbalIFan Go To PostWhat does this mean @zabo @vapesYeah pretty much, just remains to be seen if they can offer worthwhile products vs Nvidia/AMD

Let's hope so
By Laboured Go To PostYeah I would not build a PC right now lolOnly the poor and the weak say this.
Pre-builts are usually OK right now, if you were looking to get a whole new machine. Just have to make sure it doesn't use proprietary parts.
