ASRock B350 Pro4 board that I sold to a friend with a R5 1600 is still going strong. So’s my ASRock Z390 ITX board.
They make some good and terrible boards though. Kinda gotta watch what you go for with them.

By Kibner Go To PostIirc, they also make weird stuff, like itx thread ripper.Yeah, that was a basically server board. They’ve done ITX X299 (the only one), mATX Threadripper, STX AM4 boards. All up in the weird shit.

They’ve not done much noteworthy lately though, besides the X570 ITX AM4 board with Intel heatsink mounting holes.
Which was a neat idea since there is/was far more low profile Intel compatible heatsinks than AM4 compatible ones. The rest of the board’s layout was trash though.
Just saw the RTX4XXX cards aren't going to be around until end of 2022 / early 2023. What's the move kids?
By Laboured Go To PostJust saw the RTX4XXX cards aren't going to be around until end of 2022 / early 2023. What's the move kids?Either wait it out or sell your 2080ti and buy a 3090.
Join the thirsty crowds waiting for the occasional Nvidia / Scan FE drop at MRSP ... or buy one somewhere else for a significant premium.
There's no move. Life is suffering.

will be shit if no 40xx cards next year. not expecting the full lineup but hopefully at least a 4080 or something
I was randomly browsing a local classified ads site for mini-itx / small atx cases plus other stuff and found this GPU-less Sliger SM580 build for sale.
I've looked at Sliger cases in the past primarily because they all come with an optional handle and are generally well-regarded, but always discarded them since you have to import from the US and they're not cheap to begin with. A new SM580 would cost me 350-400€.
Comes thusly equipped, did a quick search for prices of same or similarly spec'd new parts:
Sliger SM580 -> 350€
i9 10850k -> 400€
NZXT Kraken X63 280mm -> 150€
Asus ROG Strix Z490-i Gaming -> 180€
GSkill Trident Z RGB 2x 8GB DDR4 3600MHz CL16 -> 115€
CoolerMaster V850 SFX 80+ Gold -> 150€
TeamGroup 120GB M.2 PCI-E -> 35€
Toshiba 1TB 2.5" Sata 3 5400rpm -> 30€
2x BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 140 PWM -> 40€
Total: ~1450€
Selling price: 900€ (might be able to get it down to 800-850€)
My intention was and mostly still is to wait for Alder Lake / Ryzen 6000 and upgrade then, however now I'm thinking it might be fun to get a good deal on something like this to carry me until 5nm Ryzen 7000 hits in Q3 2022 / Q1 2023 ... if I'd even feel the need with a 10c/20t CPU.
Provided I (for now) keep the 1080ti and my drives, I think I can probably get 300-350€ for my current PC. So bottom line I'd be looking at spending ~500€ to upgrade from a 4-core to a 10-core CPU and downsize, which are the two things I'm primarily interested in.
I'm actually still not a 100% sure I want to go down the Vapes hole and this would be a relatively cheap way of testing the waters before going all in on a new high-end mini-ITX build and possibly regretting it.
Thoughts?

That's a no brainer deal tbh
Just in terms of the parts alone like, you could harvest the CPU, RAM, Mobo and sell the bits you don’t want. Case included, and still likely turn a small profit while also upgrading.
The one thing to be aware of is that I don’t believe (from memory) that your Accelero III will fit with 25mm fans inside the SM580. It may fit with the included 3 fans but will definitely fit with slim fans (15-14mm).

My current favourite is the Jonsplus i100 Pro.
It's not the top performing or best optimized or smallest mini-ITX case, but it's very much my a e s t h e t i c , which is key, if I'm bringing the PC from below the desk (basically invisible) to where I'll be looking at it day in and out. The Sliger is more on the function over form side of things.

For those with Turing or newer Nvidia gpu's, there is a potentially better version of FSR already available to you:
https://www.anandtech.com/show/15010/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-super-review-feat-evga/3
FSR is supposedly just a 2-tap filter.
https://www.anandtech.com/show/15010/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-super-review-feat-evga/3
New to the driver version is the option to allow GPU-upscaling – with the driver upscaling any sub-native resolution to the display’s native resolution – with NVIDIA stating that Turing GPUs will also get a 5-tap filter on top of the usual bilinear upscaling.
FSR is supposedly just a 2-tap filter.
By Laboured Go To PostlolI am being corrected:
I'm fairly sure they're the same, the FSR one isn't 2-tap but two lobes, two lobes on each side is 4 taps. The fifth tap is never actually needed because the ends have zero weighting.
I have no idea what any of this lingo means.

By rerixo Go To Post3090 FE cards have been available on Scan all day lolIf that went up on payday I’d be eating smart price beans for the rest of the month tbh. Too late now :(
imagine supplying cards people actually want
Nah, stock and pricing issues aside. Besides getting a fucking nice 30% pay rise back in May, I’ve been low on funds lately due to my girlfriend being in and out of work and covering some of her bills month to month. Not really been in a position to buy one yet. Maybe in a couple more months, but then I’ll be more than happy to wait for the 4000 series.
Funny to see the ultra wide discussion here, I had just clicked the thread to say I tried one

By Laboured Go To PostWhen's Alder Lake and is there any reason to believe it's especially worth waiting for?some of this is probably true. he isn't the most reliable but i've found him ok for a rough idea of things. expected towards the end of this year, he gives the date of oct 25th for embargo lift
i'm interested in it, especially if the socket is going to last a few gens. feels like ages since intel have been interesting, but this seems like them getting back on track

Alright, which one did you get?

Alright, which one did you get?
Mainly got it to get used to ultrawide and see if I like it as a permanent screen.
I'll buy a new one when I do a new build next year.
Finally got the pieces for my new desk in. Ordered a Jarvis sit stand desk (60" x 30"), and customized it with wheels etc.
Also bought a Corsair lapdog from a coworker. These things have been super hard to find since the pandemic started (unless you want to pay ~200-300).
Gonna have to use wireless on my PC once I build it due to the way my apartment is setup, and where they router is located 😬
And no I'm not running a 60 ft cord.
