Linear is best for gaming (quicker and easier to actuate)
Tactile and clicky is best for touch typing (more feedback means fewer typos)
Tactile but not clicky is best for mixed gaming and typing usage.

By Kibner Go To PostYes, it is. And reds (or other linear switch) are what you want for gaming since you can double-tap buttons quicker and easier with them. The high resistance tactile + clicky switches are the last thing you want for gaming.Thing is I've been using browns for years and when I tried Cherry MX reds last summer I returned the board because the linear switch without the tactile bump felt like shit to me.
I'm not really worried about speed all that much.
By Kibner Go To PostLinear is best for gaming (quicker and easier to actuate)Yeah that's what I've been reading and it's why I went with browns as the Goldilocks option.

But blues just feel so good...
I disagree on linear being the best for gaming. I really didn’t like them, there’s no feedback for actuation so I would often find myself accidentally pressing certain keys.
Blues felt nice to play with, but they’re unbearably loud.
Browns were a nice sweet spot between the two.
I have Kalih purple switches now. Tactile and not clicky like Browns, just a different actuation point/resistance. Had them a while, really like them.

I use blue, but I type more than play I guess. I got used to the noise after a couple hours, but cunts in an office setting might not.
I use blues on my main ultrawide too, i love how clicky they are, but then I have a brown keyboard for the 240hz and csgo. however the keyboard with browns is semi fucked up, by hitting the keyboard in anger too many times. so looking for something new

By bacon Go To PostAnyone use blue mechanical switches for gaming? I've been using browns for years and I feel the urge to make the switch to the clicky side but I'm worried about the noise. Is it much worse than brown switches?
By Wahabipapagooz Go To Postand they just got back in stockANSI version tho, right? I preordered the ISO one this morning.
Well I did the only sensible thing to do and bought a hotswappable board with blue switches and then got additional brown switches on the cheap.

I did the same after trying blues/reds/browns. Figured I’d want to keep trying different switches so I went with a GMMK Compact.
Picked the Kalih pro purple switches first up, but I’ve not felt any need to change them up since. They just sound and feel good.
Need some ambient lighting and actual cable management. Otherwise my set up is looking good again now.
Recent addition is a mouse dock for my G502. Saw it in a Frank P monthly tech video. Seems to work well. If I get back into competitive shooters, I’ll probably go with a G Pro then just dock whichever I’m not using at a given time.
Looking good, Vapes.
I saw that charging dock as well, but since I only charge the G Pro like twice per month ... I can live without one.

Ya I guess.
It's perfectly readable. Though maxing out a window to the full 55 inches is uncomfortable since it requires turning my neck to read things off to the sides. I only max out a window for watching something or games though. I use smaller windows and put them in the centre if I'm focusing on them. PowerToys has been a godsend for that.
Gotta give my eyesight a workout, m8
If I sat further away, then I’d probably use 150% or 200%. Just doesn’t seem necessary to me while using this at typical desktop distances.
Tend to keep it set the CX set to “ISF Expert Dark Room” picture mode. It’s honestly very comfortable on the eyes compared to IPS/TN panels. Haven’t experienced any eye strain or tiredness since making the switch. Probably since it’s not a very bright screen compared to the 1000 nit peak brightness of the X27.

To add to it, I’d fully recommend this kinda set up over any 4K monitor on the market if you’re primarily playing games. Maybe at a smaller size (48 was the plan originally) if a bit short on space. The specs and screen quality are just unmatched in comparison to monitors. It’s a genuine case of paying more for less if you buy a monitor for over £1000.
There’s the option too to run it as a 3840x1600 ultrawide, which is how I played through Cyberpunk recently. The black bars didn’t even detract for the experience due to how OLED’s handle black levels.
There’s caveats if you’re using a HDMI 2.0 card like I am. I can’t do 4K/120hz with HDR. I need to drop down to 1440p/120hz or 4K/60hz. It’s a small inconvenience that’ll go away in time though.

I definitely have the space for a Vapes-like operation, but I wanna wait for the upcoming 42" LG OLEDs. At the same time I really don't want to get rid of my ultrawide ... and I want to keep my 240hz monitor and maybe even upgrade it to a 27" 1440p 240hz IPS for Apex / Battlefield / whatevs.
Of course, a cheaper and more elegant alternative would be to get rid of both my Predator X34 and Acer 240hz monitors and replace them with a single 34-38" high refresh ultrawide that could catter to both single player and online gaming.
If Samsung had an ultrawide in their G7/G8 Odyssey line I would've already done it. My buddy gave me his 32" G7 for a couple of days and that new VA panel is as good as they say. I was kind of amazed how decent HDR (600) content and games looked on it.
Hopefully they'll add an ultrawide when they refresh the Odyssey lineup.

The Samsung G9 would be admirable solution. 49 inch, 240hz, 5120x1440, HDR10. Still costs a bang of sand, but I think 32:9 and 240hz would provide a different but equally good experience.

Still costs a bang of sand, but I think 32:9 and 240hz would provide a different but equally good experience.Eh, not a fan. As my 21:9 ultrawide + secondary monitor adventure has shown, I have absolutely 0 need for all that real estate when it comes to desktop use. As for gaming, I obviously can't speak from experience, but from what I've seen and read ... 32:9 isn't it, if not for very specific games. It's just too wide, almost comically so, not to speak of fisheye distortion issues and what have you. You could always use it with a 21:9 resolution, but that defeats the purpose of having one for gaming. Mostly I just wouldn't know what to do with all that wideness in Windows.
42" HDR OLED monitor would be amazing, but I wanna go higher than 120hz (and lower than 4k for them high frames) for online, which would mean having a secondary monitor around going forward, something I'd rather avoid. The way I'm able to pull down the 240hz in front of the ultrawide in my current setup works really well, but it's still a small hassle I'd like to get rid of, if I can.
The fact that I already own a 65" OLED TV I can potentially use for the occasional PC gaming session (more so if and when I'll sidegrade to a small factor case I can more easily take down to the living room) is another factor in favour of the one-ultrawide-monitor-for-all future. Still, I've been dreaming of having an OLED monitor for so long that ...
I don't know man. This shit has been a constant struggle for me over the last 5+ years. That perfect-enough monitor just never seems to materialize. 240hz 1440p 21:9 VA Samsung Odyssey would currently come the closest to it - since we're never getting OLED ultrawide - but it doesn't exist yet.
would probably try the 48" LG OLED if it had curve to it, doesn't seem comfortable to look at a screen that big up close without it. really tempting to try it anyway since their panels are so much better. an lg oled ultrawide would be the dream
Didn’t realise wallpaper engine allows you to create a playlist and change background every minute. I’ve been using a blank black screen for months with the OLED. Might be time to change it up.
Vapes, did you disable ASBL (automatic static brightness limiter) on your OLED? If not, how noticeable is the dimming in practice?
Think you can only disable it via the service menu, so it probably means voiding the warranty. Or maybe not.

Kinda like it honestly, it makes websites with a light background more bearable on the eyes.
I have pixel shift enabled too. Again noticeable in Windows but not something I really notice while playing or watching something.
Really hammers home what I posted the other day. £3300 for a 32 inch IPS 4K panel and nothing about it is worthy of the price. Not even in comparisons to competing 4K/144hz monitors and especially not compared to large OLED TVs in terms of picture quality and features.
RTX 3080's are readily available to buy without any fuckery for the first time that I've seen in the UK. Shame the starting price is £1200.
Missed the LDLC.com FE drop today by minutes, 3080 FEs were already gone, however 3090 were seemingly still available. 1500€.
Thought about it for a couple of seconds ... naaaaah.

Saw the bearded dude from badseed tech boast this board. He even made one for a headphones youtuber I also follow (Joshua Valour). That keyboard looks dope. I should have never subbed to /r mechanical keyboards. Not a rabbithole I want to end up in. Still very much digging my brown switches luckily. But that itch for a TKL board on the side is there. For no apparent reason.

Yeah I do see some pencils here and there despite not subbing there. They crossover quite a lot. I'll stick to keyboards and audiogear.
