By Celcius Go To PostIt's an EVGA FTW3 Ultra Gaming rtx 3090.
My power supply is a Corsair HX1000i that's been running flawlessly for me, and I had it connected with 3 separate pci-e cables so I don't think power was an issue.
Reading online, there are a lot of reports of the FTW3 Ultra's dying with black screens and that didn't make me feel any better either. Next time I may try either a Founders Edition or maybe Asus.
Damn, that's unfortunate. My Strix 3090 is the first time I've gone away from evga in years. Never had any issues with them in the past.
By Kabro Go To PostI'll wait for the 40 series to buy a 3060 ti.I wanted to buy my gf a 3000 series card for Christmas, but, uh... I might have to go with your strategy.
I kinda wonder if the RTX 4xxx series will be out by the time cards are easily available on shelves.

Nvidia tend to pull back production on the current line up when they’re ready to launch the next generation cards.
There might be period of months before the announcement/launch of the 4000 series where 3000 series cards are easily bought though. How many months is the question.
Right now is pretty much the perfect storm of shit for anyone just looking to upgrade their PC. There’s Covid, supply issues with dies and board components and A LOT of demand due to the performance uplift on offer for 900/1000 series owners and the current crypto currency mining drive.
Supply issues and demand both need to die down before availability improves. One or the other and I don’t think cards will be any easier to get a hold of than they are currently.
The supply constrain on the 3xxx cards simply means they will delay the 4xxx cards (possibly quite heavily too).
A delay on the 4xxx maybe means they'll be improving them aswell?
But I would expect supply and availability will stay fucked up for years to come.
To much demand for them.

It only took like half a year, but my embody chair is finally coming this week. Inch of Allah. Will sit like a king.

In light of the GPU prices/shortages and other fuckery going on in the market lately. I’m quite thankful that I built my gf’s PC when I did last year.
i5 10400F/2060KO in an NZXT H1 for £900. You can’t touch that for in terms of value rn.
There’s some things I wanna do with my own PC this year though. I’m still in the Lian Li Q37 case, but I’m looking to mod it quite heavily.
Ideally I want to cut up the rear panel and add a vertical mount for the GPU. That should allow for a 30mm radiator and 25mm fans vs the 20mm rad and 15mm fans I currently have at the bottom, as well as allow for better airflow.
I also want to cut out the vents at the bottom of the case for better airflow and less turbulence.
Beyond that, I might go as far as cutting out some of the case spine and backside panel and fully modify the Q37 into a true Mini O11. Physically, there’s enough space there for a side mounted rad just no vents or mounting holes for it.
All in, it should fit 3x240mm rads or possibly 2x240mm and a 280mm if I can get a shorter one.

By Lupercal Go To PostIt's Thermal Grizzly, so obviously bear cum.I know it's considered the good stuff, but I really don't like using TG paste.
I used it on my GPU a while a go and it seemed too thick and viscous to spread over the die easily. Since then, I've stuck with Noctua's NT-H1 and NT-H2 paste since it spreads much better for me.
Nevertheless, I'm proud of your ability to apply bear cum.
Just use more of the paste. You can't really make it too thick as the excess will just squeeze out the sides and that shouldn't be too big of an issue to cleanup (unless it's liquid metal). The effect on temperature is the same as a perfect, thinner layer.

I don't bother manually spreading paste on CPUs. Just go with a dot or cross depending on the CPU.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but looking for another office chair, nothing too expensive, couple of hundred quid at the most? Anyone got experience with chairs at this price?

Get something top tier but second hand I reckon. Prices should be competitive right now I would think
edit: my recommendation would be the full size Humanscale Freedom. I've had this 4-5 years now, no issues, great condition, 15 year warranty.

I’ve got an Ikea Markus, which only has height and tilt adjustment but it’s good if you’re 6ft or so. Had it a couple years now I think, can’t complain about it for £150 or so.
My gf bought one of these. It’s pretty comfortable, but lacks adjustments besides height and tilt. The head rest is better than the one I have though.

If you can get a good second hand chair within your budget then go for it, if not then I’d eye up some of the chairs on that website. Big selection on there and decent prices.
I would just google the chair you want with "second hand" at the end - sorry if that sounds patronising.
There's loads of websites. I would think most have quality descriptions and would be able to send you more pictures if you want them.

Moved on from being angry about GPU prices to being scared shitless of my 1050TI just dying any moment. Where would I get a replacement? Right nowhere.

Always keep a spare GPU m8.

By Kibner Go To PostI fucking hate crypto so damn much:
I used to, but after looking into blockchain technology further and making a little money from Bitcoin and Ethereum, I fucking love crypto now.
I do distinctly dislike “proof of work” mining for crypto though. Not due to the supply issues it causes with GPUs or in this case, gaming laptops, but purely for the amount of energy it consumes. Absolutely bonkers amounts.
I hope that when ETH moves away from PoW, a lot of the other alt coins turn away from it too.
Man, the content from the big PC-centric YTers has been ... lacking. Between Kyle / Bitwit getting divorced, Paul's Hardware taking a semi-sabbatical and mostly posting QA videos, Jay going overboard with extreme overclocking I could not care less about ... The drop in interesting content has been somewhat less severe with Hardware Unboxed, Gamers Nexus and Optimum Tech, but they're all feeling that 'rona depression.
