Anyone ever bought one of these in the past? If so, how long did they put you on the register afterwards?
No, even as a wee lad I had exceptional taste in everything.
My one mistake was purchasing a laptop. Ok, and that Leap Motion thingie. There might've been more things.

Well friends, the PC that I built back in 2011 (so poor back then), which now belongs to my wife, had a serious meltdown today.
The PC started just powering down randomly (no blue screen). The fans had started to make weird sounds in recent days but assumed they were getting a bit clogged. Shortly prior to it's final and irreversible shutdown a small Windows message popped up about too much power being drawn. It now will simply not power up at all.
Now the mobo is from 2011 and I suppose it could have just had its last days. I somewhat doubt it's the PSU which is a very over the top 1000w decent quality PSU I bought for it only ~5 years ago.
My question is whether you have any clever alternative thoughts about what might be the cause (other than the mobo being fucced in which case I ain't resurrecting it).

a Windows message about too much power being drawn? If that's not a laptop that is really weird.
Any chance a Windows reset/reinstall would be easy to do?

I mean no idea. Idk how I'd get the thing to even switch right now. It's that fucked. Doesn't even attempt to post.

Is there no response from anything power related? no fans spin up or LED's light up?
Only thing would be to try with your other PSU. I've never seen a message like that either, it just dies if it's the PSU.

Nope, not even the slightest spark of life. Insane lol.
By Laboured Go To PostNope, not even the slightest spark of life. Insane lol.I mean you can do all the basic things like check cables but that's almost always a dead power supply or motherboard.

Yeah I suppose that makes the most sense I'm just surprised cause it was meant to be a good qaulity / not very old one and is a 1000w PSU running a 2500K + 1080ti rig :lol.
You can check the PSU on its own by bridging it with a paperclip, but I don't know how to do all rails.
Yeah, I second trying your other PSU with it since you know it works. Or trying this potentially broken PSU with your current rig. Or both! That should help tell you if one or both of those parts have failed.

That's what I'm heading towards tbf. Not the end of the world as we were going to replace it this year, just not like NOW dammit. Idk if I can be arsed replacing the PSU for the sake of a couple of months.

I really hope Nvidia has some good driver announcements coming on Wednesday (or Tuesday I think it is). Not because they need them but sort of grown used them now. I’m not expecting those 20% performance uplifts you used to see every now and again across a number of games, but something to get excited about would be nice. Expanded DLSS support, maybe more granular control over the render resolution for it
i.e. not just some laptop GPUs and a 3080Ti that is just a way to jack up the RRP of the 3080 without officially discontinuing it

Really pissed about availability and prices right now with Nvidia. The middle class is effectively killed. You either buy a 3 year old chip or you have to spend 500€ for a GPU.
By Zabojnik Go To PostUndervolting is the new overclocking.
Same for GPUs too, there's a lot to gain from reduced noise and power for roughly the same clock speeds. Had my 2080ti pegged at 900mv/1900mhz for a fair while now. Compared to stock, the boost clock is around 50mhz higher but also completely consistent compared to how it ran at stock, where it constantly bounce up and down due to the power limit and drop as low as 1700mhz.
If you're on a 10 series or higher card, and have a spare 30 minutes. You should definitely make an UV curve in Afterburner.
After 18 months or so with my 65% Ducky One 2 SF, I think I'm ready for my first custom mechanical keyboard.
I like the Ducky well enough and for 110€ it's hard to beat, but I've come to realize I really miss having a dedicated function key row at the top. I find the 65% form factor to be perfect for my needs otherwise, so I'll be going with a 75% keyboard. I'm not in a big hurry and I'll likely be collecting the parts needed over several months. Nor do I want to spend a small fortune, so something like the KBD75V2 kit with upgrades will do just fine.
No idea what switches and keycaps I'll end up with, all I know for sure is that I'll be sticking with linears. Hopefully ones that aren't as prone to key chattering as cherrys are. The reds in the Ducky have to be 'cleaned' with compressed air twice a year or I end up with ttthiss.

Don't think I'm ready to go with a full custom keyboard build. I don't have the patience for the monotonous aspects of it, like soldering the same joints over and over for each switch, cracking the switches open to lube the stems, etc. I know you don't have to go to those lengths to have a custom build, but if you're gonna go through the expense of building your own keyboard then I feel like you need to put the effort in also to get the most out of it.
Still happy with the hot swappable GMMK and Pro Purple switches that I do have. I change up the keycaps from time to to time, but beyond that I think I'm good.

I haven't ruled out going with a hot swappable board, but the options are even more limited there. There's the IDOBAO ID80 v2 and not much else.

EDIT:
Actually ... damn, I somehow missed this. Would much prefer ISO though and apparently it's coming around Q2.

By Smokey Go To Posthow does the "budget" 3060 have more vram than the 3080Gddr6 instead of gddr6x, iirc
wat
By the time you'll need 12Gb of VRAM, the 3060's core will be too slow to keep up with the games anyway.
Quote me on that in the future. I'll stand by it.
