how much ram do people here have?
16gb feels so inadequate these days
wondering if 32gb is a smart upgrade or if it's best to just go for 64

I’ve got 32GB, think Smokey does too. Think we’d both agree it’s overkill, but also given the current prices it’s easy to justify 32GB just because it’s cheap.
64GB or more only if you need it for editing or w/e. Absurd to consider that much if you’re only gaming.
Yeah, 16 GB is still perfectly fine for just gaming. 32 GB is nice because you can have a bunch of other stuff in memory in the background and just not worry about it.
If you actually need 64 GB, you wouldn't be asking, tbh.
e: i run 32 GB but I also typically have a few different IDEs and projects up for work and each instance takes a couple gigs

By Laboured Go To PostHad 16GB for a while and still really not feeling the need for more.I only went with the 32GB upgrade because those Trident Z Royals were haunting my dreams, I needed them.
By rerixo Go To Posthow much ram do people here have?I'm on 16 atm but planning on 32 for my next build next year.

From what I've read, 64 is unnecessary for gaming
By rerixo Go To Posthow much ram do people here have?8gb which seems plenty. especially since I replaced PS with CSP/sometimes SBP

Not because I needed the extra memory, but I just wanted to fill all of my RAM slots for the first time ever and memory was really cheap at the time.
By Smokey Go To PostAre the 3080s and 3090 still a thingwhats the dealio?
By Kabro Go To Postwhats the dealio?Ok, this explanation is going to be very high level and layman-like.
Pretty much every hardware vendor uses the same one or two foundries/factories to produce their chips. These high end chips (even desktop CPUs) take up a large amount of space. So much space, that they are not as profitable for the factories/foundries as things like cell phone chips or embedded device chips.
As such, AMD, Intel, Nvidia, Sony, etc. have to pay a premium to reserve space in these factories for their new chips. After a certain point, they would start selling their hardware at a loss due to how much the factories would charge them for all that extra space their chips take up to produce.
This results in there not being enough chips for these high-end products to be produced at a level that remotely meets demand.
By Kibner Go To PostGuess I will be watching reviews today instead of working. lol
That's the first one I've seen so far. The pre-order page is up on OCUK now too for £90. Roughly half of what the Lian Li Q37 cost on sale. Release in the UK seems to be January though.
Can't believe how cheap it is given how much retooling was likely required for the modular rear panel.
When you try to get something and it's only available in German shops that ships to... EU.

I have now watched like all four reviews on youtube of the mini and that one that Vapes linked is so far the best, even though it was also the first out.
I need a new desk that can be ordered online. Something simple, but I definitely need bigger than my current desk ( L 48” x W 23. 5” x H 30) that is preferably easy to move around

What’s your thoughts on it?
It’s a lot bigger than I expected it to be, but the compatibility is practically unrivalled.
By Smokey Go To PostGot a Strix 30903090 stock is pretty readily available in the UK currently. Multiple sites with Palit, PNY and Gigabyte cards. A lot of Zotac too.
I'm byke in the game
Shit’s looking tempting, but I want either an FE or the EKxAsus card with the block on it.
By HonestVapes Go To PostWhat’s your thoughts on it?Yeah, it's between mid- and full-tower size. I think I will still get it but it will be coming along with a full system rebuild, so it may not be until late winter or early spring when hardware becomes more available. I am definitely going to need to think more about what cooling parts (rad, pump, reservoir, fan) to get than I thought I would.

Waiting would also ensure there is time for minor case revisions and also other people figuring out more parts that will fit.

As a preliminary guide, I’d say a top and bottom 360mm radiator, along with two 140mm intakes on the side. Assuming it would be built around an ITX or mATX board.
Pump, I’d go with a D5. I know that video was more in favour of DDC but there’s plenty of room in the case to mount a standard D5 tube reservoir, no real reason not to.
I would use standard thickness radiators though, 30-45mm. You really need high fan speed or push/pull on thicker radiators to make them worthwhile. EK PE radiators are 38mm, not the best on the market but they tend to be fairly affordable and two of them would be more than enough.
Corsair’s XR5 rads are 30mm, and if the reviews I’ve read are true, they’re a better choice. Tend to be more expensive though.
Plenty of good radiators to choose from though, only one I’d avoid is EK SE radiators. Alphacool’s are great in the 30mm and 45mm class. Just depends on what’s easily available stateside.
As far as the pump goes, they’re all basically the same regardless of brand. Only thing I would fully recommend is that you get PWM D5. At 60% it won’t be issue in terms of noise at idle.
If you get a reservoir/pump combo then a tube reservoir will be easiest to fill. A 100-150mm size should fit without issue, but the bigger it is the easier filling the loop will be.
Thanks! I really do appreciate all those words! Will have to figure out a way to bookmark your post. :p
Also, I will probably be using the vertical GPU mount since I will be liquid cooling that part, too.

By Kuma Go To PostWhat the difference between AMD graphic cards and Nvidia cards? With the current generation, Nvidia has better performing ray tracing and has machine learning upscaling with DLSS that AMD currently has no equivalent for.
AMD is slightly cheaper, but has poorer VR performance, poorer ray-tracing, but parity with NVIDIA on rasterization.
By Kuma Go To PostIs ray tracing and DLSS a big deal?It depends on the implementation and how much you value them.
Ray tracing can be completely transformational when done well, like in Control or Metro Exodus or just extremely subtle otherwise.
DLSS 2.0 is basically a free performance bump in any game that supports it for a minor difference in image quality. I say difference, instead of reduction or improvement since despite it not rendering at the native resolution it tends to result in better AA while still looking near identical in quality to the native resolution.
Personally, I can't tell the difference between on and off in these two pics.
For anecdotal experience with DLSS 2.0, with an RTX 2060 KO in Fortnite. DLSS took the frame from 150-160 to 190-200FPS at 1080p. The image quality on a 1080p screen is still completely clean despite rending at roughly 60% of 1080p. Personally I find it to be far more impressive than ray tracing purely for the performance bump it gives you.
DLSS in Control is a bit of a bust tbh. Lot's of moving artifacts on RT reflections, which can be the entire screen at time.
By Facism Go To PostDLSS in Control is a bit of a bust tbh. Lot's of moving artifacts on RT reflections, which can be the entire screen at time.
I think that might be due to how RT reflections are rendered in accordance with the starting input res (e.g. 1080p DLSSed up to say 4K).
Also, the quality of the DLSS implementation varies from title to title with Death Standing and Control being two of the best. It also isn't widely supported, yet.
However, it is still the best way to get high fps in 4k at max settings right now. Especially if RT usage is pretty heavy.
