By Kibner Go To PostApparently, their Linux support is better than Nvidia's if that is worth anything to people here.
I’ve heard that a lot, but it’s not something I’ve paid much attention to since I don’t use Linux (should I?).
I think I’ve heard Nvidia’s performance in Linux has gotten better in the last year or so though.
I think AMD GPUs are the only choice for Mac OS/HackingTosh systems too, but again, no real interest in that personally
Linux is awesome when you want something super stable and configurable. If Linux fully supported Direct X (so that more games would run on it), I would gladly drop Windows.
Oh, you can try out just the command line versions of various Linux distros by installing Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). It's more intended for power users and developers who want their Linux tools without needing to dual boot.
One cool thing about Linux is that nearly everything is designed with the console in mind. Makes it super easy to do stuff without a display.

Haven’t Valve been working on running Windows native games in Linux for a while?
I know there was a way to run them in Linux prior (Wine is it?), but I’m sure I’ve heard this year that Valve have made some further strides in that area.
Yeah, Steam has improved things a bit, but that would mainly only affect games that you have bought on Steam. And there are still performance drops and some bugs and things don't quite work how you may expect. It's better, but not sure I would call it good.
Looks like I would need to install Steam on a Linux distro for me to even see what games I own are compatible with Linux. I wish Valve would make this possible on Windows. =/
e: hmm... looks like there is a way to do it but I needed to update my Steam privacy settings and it may take up to an hour before the site can sync my library in its database

Looks like of my 449 Steam games:
- 38 lack enough information to whether they will play or not
- 127 are native Linux
- ~50 just plain won't work
- ~150 are gold or better, meaning they will work perfect with a few tweaks
- the rest are bronze or silver which "work", but may crash a lot or have significant compromises
e: don't forget, anything that isn't listed as "native" will likely have a minor to significant performance reduction

According to a new tweet from Kopite, the RTX 3080 Ti would feature the same CUDA core count as RTX 3090, which is 10496 cores. This is quite a surprising move from NVIDIA, which confirms that the Ti model will certainly not be cheap. Another interesting change to the specs that we saw last week is a new memory configuration. The revival of 20GB GDDR6X SKU appears to be on a table, as the RTX 3080 Ti is now rumored to have such memory configuration.
By HonestVapes Go To PostI really recommend checking out this forum: https://smallformfactor.net/forum/category/custom-cases-projects/Fuck, these people are next level.
By Zabojnik Go To PostFuck, these people are next level.I know, right? Another good forum to check out if you don't mind trawling through threads to find custom cases is https://hardforum.com/forums/small-form-factor-systems.102/
It's not as active as it used to be, but there's a lot of good stuff in there. I believe it's where the NCase was originally conceptualised too.
Also if you missed it, there's this sticky thread for design resources, main thing being the 3D files for components so you can see how things will look when arranged in your desired layout.
Specifically, I'd also recommend looking through Necere's concepts here. Some really great looking and functional designs, and a lot details to sift through.
Amazon.de decided to just not ship my card. No stock? Well lets not bother saying anything. #fuming
Got MSI GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING X TRIO coming in now it seems though. Just to be totally clear, this psu is (850w) is fine with 3x 8 pinconnection to the gpu right?

What's on the horizon for PC NVMe SSDs (PCIe 4)? Just wondering if I should wait if some scary quick ones are coming soon.
(Assume Corsair Force MP600 is the best you can do rn)
Edit: Seems like Samsung's new 980s are coming

Party people (apparently Zabo and Vapes, but obv. others as well):
I bought a mechanical keyboard with some Halo Clears. I am looking to customize my keycaps in the future, and in particular I am looking for some low-profile keycaps. Any ideas or recommendations where I could find some? Looking online has come up with very little results.

Don't bother with getting a pcie4 ssd until there comes a game that will actually need the speed increase over pcie3 nvme drives. At that point, go ahead and get one. They will be cheaper and even faster.
There is nothing that you do at this time that would make the speed difference of a pcie4 ssd over a pcie3 nvme actually noticeable.

Silicon Motion's new controller(s) cometh. Not sure which manufacturer will debut it first, but it's clearly cocaine-fueled.

Ah yeah I'd read about that some time ago. Boo.

I'm not too into custom keycaps and what have you since a lot of the really nice sets are extortionately priced and hard to get a hold of. I see KBDfans mentioned often though, so they might have what you're looking for.

Another shout would be Aliexpress/Banggood if you don't mind waiting for a month or so for delivery
By Laboured Go To PostAh yeah I'd read about that some time ago. Boo.If you want to make your Windows boot-up time really quick, then get an Optane ssd and install Windows and your non-gaming apps on it. Their single file throughput isn't as great as pcie4 ssd's, but they are still the fastest (I think) when there are lots of different read requests. Like when Windows is booting up and is loading all your various programs in the task bar.
Not as quick when loading a game, though, since those make relatively few requests and are often for large, contiguous files.
e: looks like there will be some pcie4 Optane drives next year...

... this. High-end custom keycaps make the 3080/90 waiting game look like a 5 minute coffee break, so a lot of people are buying second hand.
Nice, thanks! I wish I could filter those by low-profile ones. Seems everyone just usually makes taller keys.
By reilo Go To PostNice, thanks! I wish I could filter those by low-profile ones. Seems everyone just usually makes taller keys.Yeah. I've watched my fair share of Taeha Types and TaeKeyboards videos over the past couple of years and I can't remember any focusing on low-profile custom keycaps. At first I thought you meant low-profile switches, which have been kinda brought out of the laptop / Mac shame hole by Logitech's recent efforts on that front (G915), but are still looked down on by the mechkey community, mostly with reason, if your primary concern is a top-tier typing experience.
I'm not familiar with Halo Clears, but I imagine they're Cherry MX compatible. Maybe you could look for mech keyboards with low-profile switches and transplant their low-profile caps to your board? Although most of them probably use weird / proprietary stems that won't fit. The only one I can think of that might be suitable for such frankensteining is the POK3R V2 Low Profile, but of course there's more to compatibility than just stems.
Just a thought.

Ryzen 3 is clearly a slam dunk for AMD, especially when you look at the crazy gaming performance you get out of a measly 6-core 5600X.
At the same time though ... all these fps gains, which really only show up at 1080p and don't much metter even at that resolution, since we're talking 150fps+ and 300fps+ in AAA single player and competitive games respectively, just go to show once more that mainstream CPUs have been more than good enough for gaming, low- and high-end, for a long while now ... and it's kind of depressing.
I guess it's the nature of things, when the lowest common denominator you have (had) to stick to are underpowered current-gen console CPUs, so I'm really curious if and when we're going to see the first cross-platform title that actually gets these modern 8-core+ processors sweating. PC will run away with performance in time, naturally, but it would be nice to have a buffer period of a couple of years where I'm out here waiting for Ryzen 4 to drop, so I can push Assassin's Creed: Papangus from a locked 4K@30fps on console to 4K@60fps+ on PC, GPU permitting.
I doubt it will happen tho. CPU usage and demands will likely increase gradually, by which time any decent new-ish CPU will be once again good enough. I'm still looking forward to my next CPU upgrade, likely to happen within the next 6 months or so, if mostly because I don't want to be 4-core shamed no more. Well, and I've been getting into CAD and light rendering and my 7700K is definitely showing its small pp there.
At least I'll always have - look away Kibner - Star Citizen's hefty CPU demands, even if a good chunk of it comes down to lack of optimization. :D
