By sy Go To PostWhat is VRR? or Freesync? Youtube videos confused me. Is it like a better version of vsync to prevent screen tearing? Is it only something to worry about for non gaming applications?
While I'd always defer to diehard and Kibs on these things, perhaps what doesn't fully come across in their completely correct responses (and even though it is technically accounted for) is that if your game is lurching at say 53 fps to 59fps a lot of the time, most people will generally not notice on VRR/Freesync/Gsync displays - you won't get the usual stutter and it will seem smooth still (and obvs no input lag or tearing either).
Oh, another perk about a GSync certified monitor that Sy may be interested in is that they are guaranteed to come color calibrated from the factory.
as a color blind person i have no idea how color calibration works, can't you just make it look right yourself?
By DiPro Go To Postas a color blind person i have no idea how color calibration works, can't you just make it look right yourself?Only if you have a physical object that you know is color correct and you want to spend a ton of time getting your screen to match that color correct object perfectly.
Most people just use a colorimeter and some calibration software to do it much quicker. And then do it again every sixth months or so as monitors color shift over time.
It's only really this important for people who publish (electronic or print) color critical work.
well thank god i don't have to bother. i just look up some recommended settings and tweak so it looks nice to me.

Excited, although I think my 3600 can still cut it for at least 2-3 years. More excited about those 3060TI and 3070 with 16GB. And of course RDNA2. Need to get an HDMI 2.1 card.

I still find it absolutely bonkers that they’re ahead in IPC, ahead with TSMC’s 7nm, ahead with core count, ahead with pricing and still behind on latency and game performance after three generations and one refresh.
Hopefully they can overcome that tho. I still don’t think they will, since the latency is tied to the infinity fabric, but I’d genuinely like to see them offer the absolute best CPU for gaming.

You going to go after the 48" cx?

I don't think the problem will be solved during Ryzen's lifetime. I think it would have to wait until whatever line succeeds Ryzen.

Or maybe they just don't do a rebranding for whatever they come up with that solves that latency issue and just roll it into the Ryzen line.
By Smokey Go To PostYou going to go after the 48" cx?Heavily considering it still, may end up with the 55”. It depends on what kind of sales either go on at the run up to Christmas. Currently the 55” has been £100 cheaper than the 48”.
Also depends on my job security currently, on a double warning currently, lmao.
Current priority for tech purchases though is either a new laptop or PC to replace my girlfriend’s Asus Zephyrus, which has been an absolute piece of shit for the year she’s had it.
Then an OLED, then a 3080 to pair with it when they’re more available next year.

ooof. what the fuck you doing to get warnings?

average performance uplift of 25% (3900xt vs 5900x) at 1080p across their selected titles

Yea...definitely is. $800 might be a bit to much, atm, but...uhh...LOL. I'll be back home, the end of the year, so it will be go time. I might pull the trigger, tbh.
Really out here quoting 1080p figures. Unless you're on a 240hz+ monitor who in the fuck is still gaming at 1080p outside of Dr Blade
quick summary:
- single threaded performance is now on-par with intel's best desktop cpu's
- gaming performance is marginally better than the best intel cpu's
- power efficiency is incredible

They shouldn't have even shown BL3, tbh. lol. Performance tanks when you start firing guns, not just sweeping over landscapes. lol
