I'm just here for the card, fams.
Absolutely the nicest looking heatsink I've ever seen on a GPU. Would be a shame to take that off in favour of a waterblock.

I got the G Hub software to play nice long enough to switch over to on board memory. I can now fully enjoy using the mouse and enjoy not getting pain in my fingers again.

Fucking hell that lube must smell like regret.
In other news, my loop leaked.
Bitspower air valve circled in red was the culprit, or at least my poor placement of it. Removed it, cleaned up and leaving it off over night but seemingly all is fine.
Must’ve been leaking for a day or more while I’ve been using the system, seemingly only dripped on the backplate of the GPU.

Ya true but most of the AIBs are underwhelming at best (in terms of aesthetics).
By Adam Go To PostVapes, that scares me from ever trying custom liquid cooling in the future.Did I ever tell you about the time I disassembled the loop and managed to get liquid between the backplate and PCB?
Really, it was my own fault for not having the air valve at the very top of the loop. Doing so, or not using one at all would’ve avoided the leak entirely. You live and learn though.

Uneasy about having water flowing through my pc like that
I'm gonna do it because I have grown and am no longer a coward.
That and it's gotten mainstream enough to be reliable and have quiet options.

I love NUCs and mini PC's like them. They make great home servers for when a Raspberry Pi doesn't have enough power.

Some talk in the video game thread made me wonder when my Optane drive will be outdated for OS, application, and development use. It's specifically great at reading/writing large numbers of files at the same time. It is rather weak when it comes to sequential reads/writes (large assets/files like movies and such) compared to the storage available now (especially with pcie4) but that doesn't really matter for my use case.

I’d hold off on any storage upgrades until we see how this RTX I/O pans out and scales with drives of different speeds.
Generally, any current games will only benefit from faster loading times in a traditional sense if you upgrade to something better. It remains to be seen what the impact will be with games using RTX I/O or an AMD equivalent. Could end up being really minor and not worthwhile.
I'm still using my 660p as my game drive and have no desire to upgrade that anytime soon. I was more talking about when there will exist new drives that perform better than Optanes at high queue depths for random read/writes with small-ish sized files.
Now that I've seen JayTwoCents' video, I may go for the Founders Edition 3090 over the EVGA model... it looks super nice.
RIP cpu tower cooler temps.
edit: now I'm back on the fence after seeing this:
I'm still not a huge fan of the red accents but the FTW3 looks great as well...

The one thing I don't like about the FE cards, barring any issues that might get highlighted in reviews, is the 1-3 output config.
I would've much preferred having 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, seeing how the 3 DP ports are still only 1.4a.
EDIT: Well, that and the ghetto 2x8pin to 12pin adapter. Absolute shambles.

By Zabojnik Go To PostDirectly from EVGA.What's the difference @zabo
Despite currently owning an EVGA 1080ti, I'm not an expert when it comes to EVGA's denominations.
Far as I know the FTW3 has slightly better / more advanced cooling (beefier heatsink, more temp sensors and stuff), more power phases and slightly higher clocks out of the box. Costs more, of course.

By Smokey Go To Postwhat's the smallest case that could fit a 3090 (let's say a FE card)?
Off the top of my head, I think a Sliger SM560. Not sure what the max length is for the FormD T1, might fit in that too which would be the smallest
By Zabojnik Go To PostDoes the review embargo lift on the 17th or earlier? I saw the 14th mentioned somewhere.I've seen the 14th mentioned multiple times too, which is the the release date so it's likely I suppose.
If they went ~$300 for the 3060, it would make it the most popular GPU ever probably. Only 6GB of ram tho? Need to step up that shit to 8 if they plan on charging $400.
By HonestVapes Go To PostI've seen the 14th mentioned multiple times too, which is the the release date so it's likely I suppose.Wait, doesn't the 3080 release on the 17th?
By Red Blaster Go To Post3070 honestly seems like a meh proposition if it only has 8 gb of vram that's not even ddr6xit's still decent value despite the tiny slow vram but if I do go for it I feel like I'd be locked into buying a 40xx card... which I'd probably do anyway so maybe it's not an issue. hoping the amd reveal goes well just so there's more pricing pressure. need to see how expensive these double vram cards are
By Zabojnik Go To PostWait, doesn't the 3080 release on the 17th?I must’ve got the dates mixed up, I thought it was the 14th for the 3080 and 24th for the 3090.
